The paper describes the application of graph theoretic concepts to the dynamic cross-correlation data obtained from MD simulations of adenine riboswitch, in the absence and presence of adenine. This novel approach combines both community detection algorithms that support edge weights, and cliques. The effect of variations in the values of nearest neighbors (NN) and correlation coefficient threshold (T) in the community detection algorithm have been applied to identify and filter out coincidental correlations between rogue nodes. The results generated for add Adenine riboswitch based on this hybrid approach, successfully identified the correlations within the structural regions of the molecule, providing strong clues regarding the functionality and stability of the RNA molecule in the absence and presence of adenine. Our results also suggested that a prior application of the proposed algorithm (in an automated fashion) to the simulation data of RNA biomolecules, can provide strong leads for hypothesis formulation and subsequent hypothesis-driven manual investigation.

A computational model linking stochastic neural innervation processes and functional neuromuscular excitation is developed to investigate peripheral nerve interface based limb prostheses. A means of classifying the virtual nerve data is presented by using both a time domain feature set and a spike detection algorithm. Some intrinsic parameters in recording and classification, such as brachial fiber activation, analysis window length and feature selection, are discussed to achieve good neural signal recognition. Recommendations for optimal performance are made, with regard to information content and window length.

Opportunistic or cognitive radio system are a key technology able to enable reconfigurability and flexibility of wireless systems in the railway domain in order to answer requirements such as system availability, robustness, and traffic heterogeneity. These technologies will allow dynamic spectrum allocation and very often spectrum reuse especially in rural areas. They required an accurate knowledge of the radio spectrum in which it operates. Blind multi-carrier transmission recognition methods based on the discrimination between single-carrier and multi-carrier modulations to estimate their parameters have been addressed in the literature. Some powerful techniques use autocorrelation and cyclic autocorrelation based features of the transmitted signal. Considering MC-DS-CDMA signals, we first propose a fast spectral monitoring scheme to reduce spectral search to the signals of interest. Secondly, a blind parameters estimation is processed to identify their characteristics. The proposed technique leads to a fast efficient parameters estimation and is insensitive to receiver phase and frequency offsets as it is highlighted in the simulation results.

Many existing problems in distributed systems can be linked to routing being orthogonal to trust and ignoring the social connectivity. This paper introduces a novel and economical protocol, entitled KarmaNET, which binds any routing protocol with trust to build a trusted social path and create judicious forwarders. This creates incentives for nodes to build good karma, and excises any node that has accumulated too much bad karma. KarmaNET requires only local knowledge, cuts off malicious nodes at the source, adapts to dynamic changes in behavior, bounds the number of unwanted messages a node can generate in its lifetime (even in the presence of collusion, part-time spammers, and errors in marking the outcome), and achieves an expected 0 spams received per node in the limit KarmaNET ostracizes spammers, freeloaders, and minimizes Sybil attacks with negligible false positive and negative rates (less than 0.5%). We theoretically prove bounds on the damage an attacker can cause, that KarmaNET achieves exponentially fast adaptation to a node's dynamic behavior, and show that our simulation matches the theory.

The interface roughness of multilayer coatings consisting of ultra thin alternating layers strongly influences the optical properties of dielectric mirrors. However, the technical possibilities for its characterization are limited. In this paper a new method for roughness determination of multilayer systems based on cross-section images is introduced. The core of the method is a new edge localization algorithm which is very robust even in the case of very low signal to noise ratio below three. Accuracy analysis is given and results are presented.

A real-time UWB positioning system has been developed which has dynamic 3D accuracy of better than 6 mm and static 3D accuracy of 3-4 mm. This accuracy is an order of magnitude higher than currently available commercial UWB tracking systems and opens up new applications for indoor wireless positioning including robot tracking, patient monitoring, and tracking during computer assisted surgeries. 3D experimental results are included for both dynamic and static real-time experiments using an optical tracking system with 3D accuracy of 0.3 mm as a gold standard for reference.

Collaborative sensing in cognitive radio networks can significantly improve the probability of detecting the transmission of primary users. In current collaborative sensing schemes, all collaborative secondary users are assumed to be honest. As a consequence, the system is vulnerable to attacks in which malicious secondary users report false detection results. In this paper, we investigate how to improve the security of collaborative sensing. Particularly, we develop a malicious user detection algorithm that calculates the suspicious level of secondary users based on their past reports. Then, we calculate trust values as well as consistency values that are used to eliminate the malicious users' influence on the primary user detection results. Through simulations, we show that even a single malicious user can significantly degrade the performance of collaborative sensing. The proposed trust value indicator can effectively differentiate honest and malicious secondary users. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for the primary user detection demonstrate the improvement in the security of collaborative sensing.

A near-maximum-likelihood (ML) detection algorithm for spatially multiplexed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems has been considered. The sphere decoder (SD) is one of the promising techniques to solve the ML problem. However the SD has a loose necessary condition for pruning branches, and it becomes impractical in large dimensional systems. We propose a Schnorr-Euchner SD with statistical pruning (SP-SESD) in order to further reduce complexity with small performance degradation. Squared statistical constraint radius (SCR) and expected partial path metric from unvisited levels are defined from statistics of noises, and two pruning conditions are jointly applied to search tree for detection efficiency. A flexible trade-off between bit error rate (BER) and complexity can be supported by selecting two pruning probabilities in the proposed scheme, and hence one can design various MIMO detectors according to system demands. Simulation results show the proposed SP-SESD requires lower computational complexity than any statistical pruning approaches, although performance degradation is negligible. The proposed algorithm is effective for MIMO systems with any number of antennas.

We propose a hybrid clustering strategy by integrating heterogeneous information sources as graphs. The hybrid clustering method is extended on the basis of modularity based Louvain method. We introduce two different approaches, graph coupling and graph fusion. The weights of these combined graphs are optimized with the criterion of maximizing the Average Normalized Mutual Information (ANMI). The methods are applied to obtain structural mapping of large scale Web of Science (WoS) journal database by integrating attribute based textual information and relation based citation information. From the experimental, the proposed graph combination scheme is compared with individual graph clustering, spectral clustering and Vector Space Model (VSM) based clustering methods.

In this article, we mention about a novel object recognition method based on an improved edge tracing method for binary images. This method named as ¿NORMBI¿ (novel object recognition method in binary images) contains two subsequent processes, determining places of independent objects (the starting point detection algorithm) and obtaining their edge points and geometrical shapes information (the edge tracing algorithm). The most important difference between NORMBI and traditional methods is to obtain geometrical shapes information and edge points of objects simultaneously by scanning image matrix once. It means to improve speed factor that has a vital important for object recognition. Besides, a tool has been designed to obtain the performance differences in between NORMBI and traditional methods. The mathematical results obtained are represented comparatively in a tabular format.
