T-wave alternans (TWA) has been recognized as a key index being related to sudden cardiac death (SCD) closely. In the past research, spectral method (SM) and modified moving average (MMA) are the main detection algorithms. TWA is a very weak signal and its detection is very difficult, especially in ambulatory electrocardiogram (AECG). In this paper, the strength and weakness are discussed firstly. Then based on MMA, a new detection algorithm is proposed. Only S-T-P sections are clustered to create odd and even complexes. The Euclidean distance between two complexes is considered as the matric of TWA level. The computation results illustrate the effect of our algorithm, and more improvement will remain in the future.

The multiband target detection algorithms implemented in hyperspectral imaging systems represent perhaps the most successful example of image fusion. A core suite of such signal processing methods that fuse spectral channels has been implemented in an operational system; more systems are planned. Stricter performance requirements for future remote sensing applications will be met by evolutionary improvements on these techniques. Here we first describe the operational methods and then the related next generation nonlinear methods, whose performance is currently being evaluated. Next we show how a "dual" representation of these algorithms can serve as a springboard to a radically new direction in algorithm research. Using nonlinear mathematics borrowed from machine learning concepts, we show how hyperspectral data from a high-dimensional spectral space can be transformed onto a manifold of even higher dimension, in which robust decision surfaces can be more easily generated. Such surfaces, when projected back into spectral space, appear as enveloping blankets that circumscribe clutter distributions in a way that the standard, covariance-based methods cannot. This property may permit the design of extremely low false-alarm rate solutions to remote detection problems

In this paper, we describe two algorithms suitable for the detection of Atrial Fibrillation episodes in very long terms (weeks) ECG monitoring, were the need of onboard implementation requires the development of reliable but simple and easy-to-implement methods. The proposed algorithms are based on the extraction of simple geometric features from the histogram of RR prematurity and delta RR. On the MIT Atrial fibrillation database, the RR prematurity algorithm provides the following performances: episodes sensitivity (S) 91%, episode positive Predictivity (P+) 92%, duration S 93%, duration P+ 97%. For the delta-RR algorithm the results were: episodes S 92%, episode P+ 78%, duration S 89%, duration P+ 90%

In this paper, we present a new approach or detecting face and hands for the purpose of motion-based game production. In the process, the web camera has been used to effectively capture and trace the images of the gamer's movements. Based on the analyzing algorithm, information on face, eye and hand location and movements has been searched by means of various methods such as color difference, movement information, notch filter and face detection algorithm. With this information found, interaction with object in virtual space has been materialized and movement modeling on action and reaction in collision has been proposed. Most of all, the first person motion-based game which was produced with the proposed algorithm was able to show the validity and robust performance of the proposed algorithm. The proposed method can be applied as the basic algorithm for the production of motion-based game.

Image gradient-based feature detectors offer great advantages over their standard edge-only equivalents. In driver support systems research, the radial symmetry detection algorithm has given real-time results for speed sign recognition. The regular polygon detector is a scan line algorithm for these features facilitating recognition of other road signs such as stop and give way signs. Radial symmetry has also been applied to real-time face detection, and the polygon detector is showing promising results as a feature detector for SLAM. However, gradient-based feature detection is more sensitive to noise than standard edge-based algorithms. As the total gradient magnitude at a pixel decreases, the component of the gradient at that point that arises from image noise increases. When a pixel votes in its gradient direction out to an extended radius, its position is more likely to be inaccurate if the gradient magnitude is low. In this paper, we analyse the performance of the radial symmetry and regular polygon detector algorithms under changes to the threshold on gradient magnitude. We show that the number of pixels correctly voting on a circle is not greatly reduced by thresholds that decrease the total number of pixels that vote in the image to 20%. This greatly reduces the noise component in the image, with only slight impact on the signal. This improves the performance, particularly for the regular polygon detector where the voting mechanism is complex and constitutes a large amount of the processing per pixel. This facilitates a real-time implementation, which is presented here.

Recording systems for disk drives read and detect data from tracks consisting of "read" data sectors and "servo" sectors between read sectors. In this work, we (1) present a new asynchronous servo detection algorithm based on interpolation (2) quantitatively demonstrate improvements in performance of the asynchronous algorithm over the prior synchronous algorithm in the presence of moderate to high RI. Lastly, we propose to use an asynchronous algorithm, which dispenses with the baud rate timing loop and uses an asynchronously sampled ADC output for servo detection.

The implementation of wideband MIMO systems poses a major challenge to hardware designers due to the huge processing power required for MIMO detection. To achieve this goal with a complete VLSI solution, channel coding and MIMO detection are preferably separated so that each of them can be fitted into a single chip. In this paper, a comparative study is presented regarding various uncoded adaptive and non-adaptive MIMO detection algorithms. Intended to serve as a reference for system designers, this comparison is performed from several different perspectives including theoretical formulation, simulated BER/PER performance, and hardware complexity. All the simulations are conducted within MIMO-OFDM framework and with a packet structure similar to that of the IEEE 802.11a/g standard. As the comparison results show, the RLS algorithm appears to be an affordable solution for a wideband MIMO system targeted at gigabit wireless transmission. As a direct result of this work, an ASIC for a 25 MHz wideband 8 /spl times/ 8 MIMO-OFDM system using RLS has been designed and fabricated.

Background subtraction is a popular algorithm for video object segmentation. It identifies foreground objects by comparing the input images with a pure background image. In camera-motion compensated sequences, small errors in the motion estimation can lead to large image differences along sharp edges. Consequently, the errors in the image registration finally lead to segmentation errors. This paper proposes a computationally efficient approach to detect image areas having a high risk of showing misregistration errors. Furthermore, we describe how existing change detection algorithms can be modified to avoid segmentation errors in these areas. Experiments show that our algorithm can improve the segmentation quality. The algorithm is memory efficient and suitable for real-time processing.

The current work focuses on the design and implementation of an indoor surveillance application for long-term automated analysis of human activity, in a video-assisted biomedical monitoring system. Video processing is necessary to overcome noise-related problems, caused by suboptimal video capturing conditions, due to poor lighting or even complete darkness during overnight recordings. Modified wavelet-domain spatiotemporal Wiener filtering and motion-detection algorithms are employed to facilitate video enhancement, motion-activity-based indexing and summarization. Structural aspects for validation of the motion detection results are also used. The proposed system has been already deployed in monitoring of long-term abdominal sounds, for surveillance automation, motion-artefacts detection and connection with other psychophysiological parameters. However, it can be used to any video-assisted biomedical monitoring or other surveillance application with similar demands. Copyright (c) 2008.

The detection of signals with known templates embedded in zero-mean coloured Gaussian interference is relevant to many fields such as radar, sonar, seismology and biomedicine to name a few. Traditional detection algorithms, such as the GLRT and AMF, require a training data set. Recently, single data set (SDS) algorithms, namely the GMLED and MLED, have been proposed to deal with the case where training data may not be available. In this paper, we examine the performance of these algorithms under template (or steering vector) mismatch. We identify three types of mismatch, namely the spatial steering vector mismatch, temporal steering vector mismatch and mismatch in both steering vectors. In each mismath case we derive the expected signal to noise ratio loss with respect to the corresponding matched case. Simulation results are given which show that the SDS algorithms are more sensitive to mismatch mainly due to the interaction between the signal and subspaces estimation. However, this increased sensitivity to mismatch is closely related to the ability to resolve close signals. Therefore, the SDS algorithms exhibit higher resolution
