To restore images corrupted by impulse noise, various image filtering strategies have been proposed. However, a common drawback of these methods is that the details and edges can not recovered satisfactorily when the noise level is high. A novel method based on efficient noise detection algorithm is proposed in this paper for effectively denoising extremely corrupted images and better details and edges preservation. The proposed method replaces only noisy pixel by either the median value or by a noise-free pixel value inside the selected filtering window. While uncorrupted pixels are remain unchanged. The key feature of the proposed method is very high noise detection accuracy, yielding zero miss-detection rate. Comparative studies of the proposed method and other methods for different images are made and the advantages of the proposed method are fully demonstrated.

Custom power devices are used currently to deal with voltage sag and interruptions. Study on detection algorithm become urgent. In order to master sampling value product curve fitting detection algorithm, in theory, compared it with others detection algorithm, studied on DSP emulate system, achieved it's many merits ; in practice, used it in 10 kV SSTS, and validated it's quick utility chracteristic. Study it's localization, three results those larger calculation deviation brought by higher order harmonic component with identical amplitude, calculation result influenced little by allowable frequency deviation and less calculation deviation brought by more digit capacity of A/D transfer were achieved. From synthesis research, the final conclusions that, sampling value product curve fitting detection algorithm was more suitable to dispose voltage signal with better stability and less harmonic component in medium power system and special low-tension power system, and low-pass filter technology was used to detect voltage sag in low-tension power system with larger harmonic component by sampling value product curve fitting detection algorithm, were achieved.

In this work, the agility of detection algorithms in cognitive radio is studied. A sequential change detection framework is developed to investigate the delay of detection algorithms. Three scenarios with different information about primary users' parameters available at cognitive users are considered. Optimal detection schemes that minimize the detection delay under certain false alarm constraints are developed. Minimal detection delay is characterized as a function of the false alarm probability and the Kullback-Leibler distance between signal plus noise and noise only models.

We present a lane detection algorithm that robustly detects and tracks various lane markings in real-time. The first part is a feature detection algorithm that transforms several input images into a top view perspective and analyzes local histograms. For this part we make use of state-of-the-art graphics hardware. The second part fits a very simple and flexible lane model to these lane marking features. The algorithm was thoroughly tested on an autonomous vehicle that was one of the finalists in the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge. In combination with other sensors, i.e. a lidar, radar and vision based obstacle detection and surface classification, the autonomous vehicle is able to drive in an urban scenario at up to 15mp/h.

Shot change detection is the main technique for automatic temporal segmentation of video. Until now, there were little research reports about real-time shot change detection for applying to hardware terminals with low performance such as PMPs (Portable Multimedia Player) and cellular phones. In this paper, we propose an adaptive real-time shot change detection algorithm using sub-sampling, weighting variance, and an adaptive threshold. We use weighting variance of frame difference for dividing feature extraction at a changed frame. We set an adaptive threshold using the average of variance from the next one of a last shot change frame to the previous one of a current frame. In the experiments, we obtained the detection rate of about 94.4% in overall accuracy. We verified real-time operation of shot change detection by implementing our algorithm on the TVUS HM-900 PMP from the company of Homecast. Therefore, our proposing algorithm will be helpful in searching video data on portable media player such as PMPs and cellular phones.

In empirical finance, the increase or decrease in the number of stock buy/sell orders is aroused by the information asymmetry, which eventually affects the change of the stock price. To monitor the change in the stock order flow, we propose a multilayer change-point detection algorithm which makes use of the multi-resolution property of wavelet transformation. We first detect the change-points in the lower level resolutions of wavelet transforms and then map them back to the points in the original time series. Different weights are assigned to the different levels for computing the confidence of the mapped points to be the change-points in the original time series. The change-points obtained by our method are more reliable than the change-points detected only from the original time series. The experiments on both artificial Poisson sequences and real-world stock order flows from Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) show the effectiveness of our detection method.

Copy number alterations (CNA) affecting small portions of chromosomes are difficult to identify. Advances in microarray technology now allow very high resolution scans of large cohorts of samples but at the price of severe noise degradation. Our proposed genome alteration detection algorithm (GADA) has been shown to be a highly accurate and efficient approach to analyze a single array sample. In this paper, the sparse Bayesian learning (SBL) used in GADA is extended to find CNA on multiple samples that share breakpoint positions but may have different magnitude of alteration. Our model is especially well suited to analyze sample replicates, i.e., multiple arrays from the same specimen. Our results show that replicates greatly improve the accuracy and robustness in detection. In some cases, a single replicate sample offers an accuracy equivalent to a 2-fold increase in the signal to noise ratio, while reducing by up to a 50% the detection of false CNA caused by outliers. The computational cost of the algorithm is essentially linear O(NM) in the number of the microarray probes M and samples N. In conclusion, the multiple sample GADA (N-GADA) presented here appears to be a promising tool for finely locating small CNAs that are shared across multiple samples.

In this paper, we propose a highly efficient algorithm to model the human skin color. The underlying algorithm involves generating a discrete Cosine transform (DCT) at each pixel location, using the surrounding points. These DCT coefficients are assumed to follow a generalized Gaussian distribution (GGD). Next, the model parameters are estimated using the maximum-likelihood (ML) criterion applied to a set of training skin samples. Finally, each pixel is classified as skin or the opposite if its likelihood ratio is above some threshold. The experimental results show that our model avoids excessive false detection while still retaining a high degree of correct detection.

For a multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) communication system, the optimal detection is by the maximum-likelihood (ML) approach, which, however, has complexity that increases exponentially with the number of transmit antennas. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm that implements the MIMO ML detection with reduced complexity. Our algorithm is developed based on a branch-and-bound (BB) principle. We apply a new type of cost function and give an efficient calculation algorithm. The initial reference data vector could be obtained by efficient MMSE-based algorithms. We also observe the impacts of initial reference data vectors.

We compare low-complexity schemes for soft-output detection of continuous phase modulations (CPMs). In particular, we address the problem of minimizing the complexity of the front end filters and that of the trellis exploited by the detection algorithm, with the aim of assuring a negligible performance degradation with respect to the optimal full-complexity receiver. We show that the approach providing the simplest front end is that based on the CPM decomposition proposed by Moqvist and Aulin. On the other hand, we prove that the most convenient solution in terms of trellis complexity is provided by the CPM decomposition proposed by Mengali and Morelli, possibly combined with suitable techniques for reduced trellis search.
