Recognising daytime and nighttime driving images using Bayes classifier

Variation in outdoor light is a very important consideration when developing an intelligent vehicle recognition system. Previous researchers have focused on the development of recognition systems intended exclusively for either daytime or nighttime use. This is because a constant parameter threshold value cannot be used in an algorithm for a system working at different times in the day or night. However, this study presents a system that can be used for intelligent vehicle recognition at any time. This system automatically recognises whether the image outside the vehicle is a daytime image or a nighttime image. The algorithm used in this system includes a detection module for candidate daytime sky regions, a horizontal position search module to calculate the vanishing point of a road and a recognition module to determine whether the image is a daytime or a nighttime image. The detection module and the search module are used to find a system-defined feature region, and the recognition module is used to recognise feature values using Bayes classifier. Experimental studies demonstrated a recognition rate of 96.22% and confirmed the feasibility of the system for highway images, city images and mountain road images.

Monitoring System With Cross-Type Capacitive Plantar Pressure Sensor

This study presents a monitoring system with a 4 x 4 handmade cross-type capacitive plantar pressure (CCPP) sensor. This system includes a prototype detection module and a display interface, and it is implemented as a wearable device. The prototype detection module consists of a low dropout regulator (commercial IC) utilized to regulate a stable DC voltage with 3.7 V Li-ion battery for a whole wearable device and a customized capacitance-to-digital converter (CDC) chip is employed to convert capacitances into the digital data. The CDC includes a capacitance-to-voltage converter (CVC) and 10-bit successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter are fabricated via the TSMC 0.18 mu m 1P6M 3.3 V process. CVC is characterized by its selectability of detection points from 1 to 64 (8 x 8 cross-type capacitive array). This type of converter is controlled by digital codes of a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and has embedded functions of a self-separated input signal, which is applied to scan each detection point of the cross-type capacitive sensors, and a crosstalk attenuation (CA) is used to reduce parasitic capacitances and the effects of relative humidity and temperature of the environment for cross-type capacitive sensors. To demonstrate improvements of the CA, a multi-physics simulation software, COMSOL Multiphysics, was utilized to verify the performance of the CA. The handmade 4 x 4 CCPP sensor is modeled in COMSOL Multiphysics and simulated with/without CA. Finally, the simulated results reveal that the function of CA can reduce parasitic capacitances and the effects of the relative humidity and temperature caused by the environment effectively at the femtofarad level. The cross-type structure of a capacitive arrayhas an advantage due to an MxN array, which only requires M+N tracks of input/output (I/O) ports to reduce the complexity of I/O connections. We present a detection module based on a linear array of Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPAD) made in a standard CMOS technology. The monolithic chip is employed both to count photons at very high frame-rate (up to 4,000,000 frames/s, with 250 ns time tagging resolution) and to mark photon arrival time with 50 ps timing precision. The device is ideal for applications involving very weak optical signals in the visible (350 - 800 nm) spectrum and requiring either high-speed imaging (photon counting), as in fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and confocal microscopy, or precise time tagging (photon timing) of individual photons, as in fluorescence lifetime imaging of biological samples, high-speed linear imaging, spectrophotometry, and Time-of-Flight (ToF) ranging applications.

Multispectral channels are required on many pushbroom optical sensors. A possible technology well suited for focal plane miniaturization is to assemble several sliced filter elements (so-called stripes), each corresponding to one spectral channel, and located close to the detectors. The assembled filter is thus customized to fit detector size. These stripes are cut from a wafer using a two dimensional accurate process. For the baseline concept, elementary stripes are then cemented edge-to-edge to form a single substrate. The opaque epoxy used for the stripes assembly creates a light barrier between adjacent elements and thus provides an interesting solution for cross channel image suppression inside the filter. This paper recalls the current SODERN's multi-spectral filter assembly status. Since 2007 R&T activity, the feasibility and the performances have been demonstrated by breadboards and qualification models. The selection of SODERN for two current VNIR space programs consolidates its role as a leading supplier in this field. A complementary 2011 R&T study will demonstrate the performances of this technology for the TIR range and the integration on a bolometer.

Accurate identification of bank card number has a wide range of application scenarios in banking business. Because of the complexity of data samples, the lack of data sets and the confidentiality of information, the identification of bank card numbers is still a difficult task. In this paper, we present a bank card Network (BCNet) to identify bank card numbers and integrate an end-to-end system which can be used conveniently in banking business. It includes two core architectures: text detection and recognition. In order to adapt to various bank card number recognition scenarios, we optimize the data enhancement and proofread the recognition results. Experiments show that the recognition accuracy of our model reaches 99%, and the system takes 58ms to run. The system shows excellent performance in both accuracy and running time.

According to the deterioration characteristic of insulators, leakage current changes in direct proportion to voltage distribution of insulators, however, presence of fault insulator directly affects the insulating property of transmission lines, thus a more accurate, economic and intelligent fault insulator detecting method needs to be studied. This paper designs a detection robot for live detection of faulty insulators of ±800kV ultra-high voltage direct current transmission lines. The detection approach of the device includes shorting out two insulators, collecting detection current generated by a 2500 kV power supply of a detection module and leakage current of an insulator string, achieving precise data through an improved algorithm to ensure accuracy of detection results, and developing a prototype to perform simulated experiments. In accordance with experimental data, error of insulation resistance of an insulator detected by the device is within 5% so that whether an insulator of a line in normal operation is a low resistance insulator or zero resistance insulator can be effectively determined, accordingly quality status of the insulator can be judged to achieve the aim of experiments. The equipment is highly practicable and has high practical value in engineering.

Multi-Complementary Model for Long-Term Tracking

In recent years, video target tracking algorithms have been widely used. However, many tracking algorithms do not achieve satisfactory performance, especially when dealing with problems such as object occlusions, background clutters, motion blur, low illumination color images, and sudden illumination changes in real scenes. In this paper, we incorporate an object model based on contour information into a Staple tracker that combines the correlation filter model and color model to greatly improve the tracking robustness. Since each model is responsible for tracking specific features, the three complementary models combine for more robust tracking. In addition, we propose an efficient object detection model with contour and color histogram features, which has good detection performance and better detection efficiency compared to the traditional target detection algorithm. Finally, we optimize the traditional scale calculation, which greatly improves the tracking execution speed. We evaluate our tracker on the Object Tracking Benchmarks 2013 (OTB-13) and Object Tracking Benchmarks 2015 (OTB-15) benchmark datasets. With the OTB-13 benchmark datasets, our algorithm is improved by 4.8%, 9.6%, and 10.9% on the success plots of OPE, TRE and SRE, respectively, in contrast to another classic LCT (Long-term Correlation Tracking) algorithm. On the OTB-15 benchmark datasets, when compared with the LCT algorithm, our algorithm achieves 10.4%, 12.5%, and 16.1% improvement on the success plots of OPE, TRE, and SRE, respectively. At the same time, it needs to be emphasized that, due to the high computational efficiency of the color model and the object detection model using efficient data structures, and the speed advantage of the correlation filters, our tracking algorithm could still achieve good tracking speed.
