In order to characterize PDs activity, some statistical magnitudes are necessary. For this purpose, PDs acquisition and processing is an important tool for critical decisions related to power systems. Verifying the integrity of control computers operating in harsh electromagnetic environments is a key issue in the development, certification, and operation of control systems performing flight critical functions for future transport aircraft. Harsh electromagnetic environments (EME) are caused by sources such as lightning, high-intensity radiated fields (HIRF) from radars and radio frequency (RF) transmitters, personal electronic devices carried onto the aircraft by passengers, electromagnetic interference and incompatibilities with onboard equipment, onboard or ground-based terrorists using RE weapons, and erroneous ground-based or airborne military activities. This paper considers the problem of applying analytical redundancy and distributed detection techniques to monitoring the integrity of a fault tolerant flight control computer with redundant processors during real-time laboratory testing. The analytical redundancy for each control command is based on the nominal control law calculation using mathematical modeling techniques. Malfunctions in the control law calculations are detected using statistical decision rules. The thresholds for the decision rules are based on the residual between the measured control law calculation (that may result from computer malfunctions) from the control computer and the estimate of the correct command. The approach is demonstrated for the B737 Autoland during a landing approach. Analysis of the performance of the distributed monitoring system is discussed.

Separation of interference sources from signals of interest relies on a system having either spatial or spectral diversity to detect and remove the interference sources. If interference sources are co-located in either frequency or space with the signal of interest classical techniques fail to resolve the signals of interest within the interference. This paper presents a new signal disambiguation algorithm with both spatial and spectral diversity that is able to act in a congested electromagnetic environment and distinguish between multiple signals of interest while rejecting noise colocated in frequency and/or space with the signals of interest.

This paper presents a real-time algorithm for a mobile cardiac monitoring system to detect life-threatening arrhythmias. This detection algorithm focuses on two lifethreatening arrhythmias ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation (VT/VF), which are detected through the application of pre-detection processing and main detection processing. In pre-detection processing, applies a statistical method to detect VT/VF. In contrast, a neural fuzzy network is applied to detect VT/VF in main detection processing. The neural fuzzy network's input features are obtained by wavelet transform and several effective extraction methods. This realtime detection algorithm outperform Amann's algorithm, with 92% accuracy and 93% sensitivity. It has been implemented as a cardiac monitoring system in a mobile phone. This system meets heart patient's requirements of early detection and outof- hospital rehabilitation.

Ventricular tachycardias (VT), fibrillations (VF) and flutters (FL) are heart rate disturbances ranked among life threatening arrhythmias. We designed and tested an algorithm for automated detection of VT, VF, and FL events from Holter ECG data. The algorithm is based on the detection in a frequency domain, which is supported by the detection in a time domain. The algorithm was tested using ECG signals including VT, VF, and FL taken from AHA and MIT-BIH databases. Overall performance of the algorithm was sensitivity 80.9% and positive predictivity 66.8% (whole data set). The results show a discrimination of VT, VF, and FL from the normal sinus rhythm and its discrimination from the noise. The importance to reach high sensitivity is reflected in the detection. The algorithm achieved a very high resistance to the power line interference and random noise. It provided very good results, in particular with well-balanced ratio between sensitivity and positive predictivity.

We present an overview of noise sources deteriorating the quality of the recorded biological Raman spectra and the ability to determine the specimen composition. The acquired Raman spectra exhibit intense additive noise components or drifts because of low intensity of the scattered light. Therefore we have to apply expensive or bulky measurement setups to limit their inherent noise or to apply additional signal processing to reduce random components after recording the spectra (e.g., Savitzky-Golay filtering, polynomial approximation, denoising by empirical mode decomposition). We present noise sources generated in detectors of Raman scattered photon stream. We consider the methods of background noise reduction by increasing averaging time when the background noise comprises of white noise and 1/f noise components. We consider how the background noise reduces the accuracy of chemical compounds estimation using Raman spectra and prediction model based on linear (e.g., Principal Component Analysis) or nonlinear (e.g., Support Vector Machine) methods. Finally, we give some remarks about synchronous detection and background noise reduction.

In this paper, we propose a novel intelligent successive interference cancellation (SIC) detection algorithm, namely I-SIC, for the uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system. Compared with some traditional SIC detection algorithms based on channel state information (CSI) and quality of service (QoS), the proposed I-SIC can learn the implied characteristics in the received signal, channel state information and power information through deep neural network (DNN), so as to more intelligently provide sorting scheme for SIC detection algorithm and further improve the detection performance of the system. Experimental results show that compared with the traditional SIC detection algorithm based on CSI (CSI-SIC), this algorithm can significantly improve the detection performance of the system(up to 6 dB for three-user scenario with QPSK modulation).

High sleep quality enhances life while helping to improve health. Sleep quality increases with fewer sleep disorders such as in-sleep activity is assessed based on such sleep disorders as indicators. In this context, the measurement of in-sleep activity will enable the analysis of sleep quality. This study suggests an algorithm to measure the number of in-sleep activity using a pressure sensor. Movements are detected using the vibration data that is measured from the sensor during tossing and turning, and the pattern of changing pressure according to person's posture in sleep is analyzed. Measuring in-sleep activity using this algorithm will enable the evaluation of sleep quality. Also, to evaluate the algorithm, an actual test environment was constructed where in-sleep activities were measured, and it was determined whether they were counted accurately. As a result, it presented an average cognitive accuracy of 98.6%, and the availability of the algorithm was confirmed.

Many safety accidents can occur in industrial sites. Among them, falls from heights (FFHs) are the most frequent accidents and have the highest fatality rate. Therefore, some existing studies have developed personal wearable airbags to mitigate the damage caused by FFHs. To utilize these airbags effectively, it is essential to detect FFHs before collision with the floor. In this study, an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor attached to the seventh thoracic vertebrae (T7) was used to develop an FFH detection algorithm. The vertical angle and vertical velocity were calculated using the inertial data obtained from the IMU sensor. Forty young and healthy males were recruited to perform non-FFH and FFH motions. In addition, experiments using a human mannequin and dynamics simulations were performed to obtain FFH data at heights above 2 m. The developed algorithm achieved 100% FFH detection accuracy and provided sufficient lead time such that the airbags could be inflated completely before collision with the floor.
