To overcome challenges related to occlusion and varying lighting conditions in cherry detection, we propose an enhanced YOLOv8-based model for cherry recognition. We have modified the YOLOv8 model’s ‘neck’ section by incorporating a BiFPN-based pyramidal network, which enhances feature fusion across various levels, thereby improving the model’s ability to identify partially obscured cherries. Additionally, to enhance adaptability to diverse lighting and to better detect small targets, we utilize an AFPN to refine the detection head, thereby improving the model’s performance across varying lighting scenarios. For training and validation purposes, we created a custom dataset of cherries that includes instances of occlusion and complex lighting. Our experimental findings indicate that the enhanced algorithm outperforms the original YOLOv8 network, with improvements in accuracy, recall, and mean Average Precision (mAP) by 4.2%, 2.6%, and 2.3%, respectively. Notably, the improved model demonstrates greater robustness in handling occluded cherries and complex lighting situations. The model achieves high recognition accuracy and robustness, offering valuable insights for future research in cherry recognition. © 2024 SPIE.

If a real-time TV image processor has the task of separating moving objects from the static background in an image then this task can be performed most simply by an image subtraction if the static background is known a priori. If the background is varying in an unpredictable manner and is continually being obscured by the moving objects the task of maintaining an image which is representative of the static background is made difficult. This paper addresses the problems associated with the generation and maintainence of a background image within a real-time TV image processor under varying ambient conditions. © 1988 SPIE. The unmanned boat is the key unmanned equipment developed in recent years. The unmanned boat has the characteristics of small size and flexible movement and it can perform military tasks such as patrol, reconnaissance, and attack on ships. Because of its operational characteristics, radar wave stealth application is also more common. The surface design of an unmanned boat is simple, but the surface equipment on the boat is not focused on, and there is much messy surface equipment, which is the focus of radar wave stealth design. In this paper, the radar stealth threat, stealth key technology, and stealth applicability faced by unmanned boats with high radar stealth are discussed, which provides a reference for the research on radar stealth requirements, stealth performance realization, and stealth combat of unmanned boats. © 2024 SPIE.

In order to solve the problem of how to effectively optimize the topological structure in complex systems, improve the accuracy and reliability of decision-making, and reduce the false alarm rate and false alarm rate, an intelligent topological structure decision-making optimization method based on knowledge map enhancement algorithm is proposed. A new approach to correlation filters based on quadratic distance calculations is described. The problem of distortion tolerance is addressed in terms of similarity measures. Discrimination is simultaneously addressed by optimizing the filters to maximally separate the classes. Mathematically, filter synthesis requires the inversion of diagonal matrices in the frequency domain and is a generalization of the MACE idea. The approach is shift-invariant, does not require feature extraction or image registration, and is significantly different from traditional pattern recognition techniques such as the Fisher LDF. The proposed approach is also suitable for the rejection of unknown clutter. Since recognition is based on similarity, clutter and false images which exhibit `large' distances from true target classes, are easily rejected. With improved recognition and discrimination performance, and low false alarm rates, the proposed distance classifier is a promising method for multiclass target recognition in cluttered environments.

Aiming at the limitations of traditional fire detection algorithms in terms of accuracy and real-time detection, a lightweight fire detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv8 is proposed. The Slim-neck is used to improve the Neck network, reduce the number of parameters and computation of the model, and improve the detection performance of the model. The C2f-Star module is designed, and the Star block is introduced to replace the bottleneck structure of the C2f module in the Backbone network, to better capture the information of the image, and further reduce the complexity of the model. The Focaler WIoU boundary loss function is used instead of the original loss function, which reduces the influence of low-quality samples and increases the regressivity of the network bounding box. The experimental results show that the number of parameters and the computational volume of the improved model are reduced by 14.0% and 16.0%, while the precision and the mean average precision are improved by 3.0% and 1.2%, compared with the original model, which can help real-time monitoring and early warning of fire. © 2024 SPIE. With the continuous advancement of smart city construction, autonomous driving technology is playing an increasingly important role in urban traffic systems. This study aims to explore the development and optimization of traffic sign recognition algorithms for autonomous vehicles in smart city traffic environments. By comprehensively analyzing current traffic sign recognition technologies, this paper proposes a traffic sign recognition system based on the YOLOv5 algorithm and utilizes the open-source COCO dataset for model training and testing. The images were preprocessed and annotated, employing CSPDarknet53 as the backbone network, which effectively extracts image features through multiple convolutional layers and residual blocks. A deep learning model was trained, capable of recognizing and classifying various traffic signs such as stop, speed limit, and turn signs. The research results indicate that the model demonstrates high average precision (AP) on the COCO dataset, effectively identifying traffic signs of different sizes and angles, even in complex backgrounds, with high robustness. Compared to traditional methods, the recognition accuracy has improved by 15%, and it has a significant advantage in real-time processing. © 2024 SPIE.
