At present, the Internet and smart cities are developing rapidly, and all social services. Small target detection is widely used in these fields. This paper focuses on small target detection based on YOLOv5. The feature enhancement module is proposed to solve the problem of incomplete extraction of small target features by the model. An attention mechanism is added to the model, so that the detection model pays more attention to the region in the image that contains the target to be detected, increases the weight of the feature information in this part, enriches the feature space, and further improves the performance of small target detection. Finally, by combining the use of network pruning and knowledge distillation, the model is compressed to compress the model size and improve the detection speed under the premise of ensuring that the model detection accuracy is not affected. The experimental results show that our optimisation effectively improves small target detection in terms of both detection accuracy and detection speed, with FPS improved by 31.84 and AP improved by 1.7%. © 2024 SPIE.

Traditional blood cell detection methods are limited by cumbersome procedures, subjective judgment, technical constraints, and difficulties in data processing and interpretation. These limitations lead to low detection efficiency, high error risk, and issues such as misdetection and missed detection. To address these problems, we propose a YOLOv8-EOC blood cell detection algorithm, optimized and improved based on the YOLOv8 framework. This algorithm designs a novel C2f_EMA module by combining the C2f and EMA mechanisms within the residual connections of the backbone network, thereby enhancing detection accuracy and feature extraction capabilities. Additionally, by replacing some convolution modules with OMNI-DIMENSIONAL DYNAMIC CONVOLUTION (ODConv), the algorithm improves feature extraction capabilities, particularly in overlapping blood cell regions. Finally, by incorporating the coordinate attention (CA) mechanism in the neck network, the algorithm enhances the recognition accuracy of small target platelets in the dataset. Extensive experimental results on the BCCD dataset demonstrate that compared to YOLOv8n, this algorithm improves the average precision of detecting three types of blood cells by 2.7%. Moreover, with only 3.06M parameters and a computational load of 7.9 GFLOPs, the detection speed and accuracy of this algorithm surpass traditional methods and other advanced algorithms. The experimental results indicate that this algorithm has high practicality for blood cell detection and meets the deployment requirements for low computational power while ensuring high accuracy. © 2024 SPIE.

In this paper, we will discuss a novel technology, which we have recently developed for automatic target detection and recognition by polarimetric imaging systems. This technology consists of an approach to non-cooperative small target detection that uses statistical techniques to exploit a target's Stokes vector infrared signature. This is applicable to sensors whose signature measurements are sensitive to the polarization of the targets and their backgrounds. Fusion is achieved by constructing the joint statistical measures for the target's polarization states. Target polarization states are in terms of the intensity, percent of linear polarization, and the angle of polarization plane. Applications of the proposed approach, for military targets under variations in target geometry are made in terms of receiver operating characteristic condition curves. The new results, which have been obtained on data from the Air Force's IRMA polarimetric infrared simulation tool, indicate the usefulness of polarimetric infrared signatures for the automatic detection of small targets.

Based on the development of an IR seeker in 1992 and its extensive captive flight testing, the seeker of the trilateral (Germany, France, Italy) Polyphem missile was developed and tested in captive and free flights. It is based on a 640x486 element FPA and a cardanic stabilization and pointing system with an on-gimbal rate gyro. The digitized output of the FPA is sent to the ground via an optical fiber where it is observed by the operator and processed for cueing of targets and tracking for the final approach. After general seeker design considerations its design and performance and an in-flight video of a live firing will be presented. On the basis of the prior development of an IR seeker module set consisting of a 256x256 element InSb FPA and its electronics, the seeker for the German KEPD350 missile has been in development since 1997. Recently it has been qualified successfully and 25 of it will be delivered in 2001. Its mechanics consist of a miniaturized cardanic system which uses the data of the missile's Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for strap-down pointing and stabilization. Its image processor is designed for navigation during cruise and for tracking of the target in final approach. The seeker's features and performance will be presented.

To meet the input voltage requirement of onboard chips in intelligent accounting devices, Utilizing the STM32 series microcontroller as the central control unit, a novel integrated Buck circuit voltage regulator applying PID control has been developed, where voltage monitoring and temperature detection are included. To simplify the driving circuit, we shift the switching of the Buck circuit;the use of operational amplifier circuits for voltage sampling and scaling, and the subsequent voltage tracking, makes the feedback signal more stable and not be disturbed. Designed interrupt program for microcontroller based on PID control algorithm, and programs to handle feedback voltage and PID control are included. The finalized voltage stabilization circuit design successfully achieves reliable voltage output, over-temperature shutdown circuitry, and alarm functionality. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) provides a powerful guarantee for the accurate identification of various targets due to its rich spectral and spatial information. Anomaly detection, a significant application of HSI, is inevitably affected by noise during the imaging process. To achieve effective HSI anomaly detection in complex environments, this paper propose minimum noise fraction (MNF) and tensor low-rank anomaly detection by replacing principal component analysis (PCA) in PCA-tensor low-rank and sparse representation (TLRSR) with MNF as a preprocessing step. Experimental tests using real hyperspectral data demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively reduce noise in HSIs and significantly enhance the anomaly detection accuracy. © 2024 SPIE.

We present a novel approximate image reconstruction technique for helical cone-beam CT, called the Advanced Multiple Plane Reconstruction (AMPR). The method is an extension of the ASSR algorithm presented in Medical Physics vol. 27, no. 4, 2000 by Kachehiess et al. In the ASSR, the pitch is fixed to a certain value and dose usage is not optimum. These limitations have been overcome in the AMPR algorithm by reconstructing several image planes from any given half scan range of projection angles. The image planes are tilted in two orientations so as to optimally use the data available on the detector. After reconstruction of several sets of tilted images, a subsequent interpolation step reformats the oblique image planes to a set of voxels sampled on a cartesian grid. Using our novel approach on a scanner with 16 slices, we can achieve image quality superior to what is currently a standard for four-slice scanners. Dose usage in the order of 95% for all pitch values can be achieved. We present simulations of semiantropomorphic phantoms using a standard CT scanner geometry and a 16 slice design.

Agriculture, an integral part of human existence, plays a central role in the economic and strategic sphere of every country. Crop productivity is of concern to all, as pests and diseases can significantly reduce yields or even lead to the death of crops. Therefore, the detection of such threats is of utmost importance. With the advances in deep learning, the application of object detection algorithms to identify and monitor these problems has gained momentum. The present work uses the improved YOLOv8 algorithm as a foundation and introduces extensions that show improved performance on the widely recognized IP102 dataset intended for public insect images. © 2024 SPIE.

The advantages and disadvantages of model method, noise suppression method and time-of-flight method of ultrasonic transducer are analyzed, and a temperature-adaptive method for measuring time-of-flight is proposed. Two pairs of transducers are installed vertically and acutely with the central axis respectively. The transducer model analysis, filtering algorithm and adaptive tracking algorithm are studied, and the piezoelectric-voltage equivalent mathematics is obtained. The identification of the model is completed, and the adaptive filtering algorithm, the automatic tracking algorithm of the transit time based on threshold method and cross-correlation theory are designed by the equivalent model. The experimental data prove that this method is feasible to solve the problems of large attenuation of ultrasonic propagation and serious acoustic noise interference. © 2024 SPIE.
