Many governments have some form of "direct democracy" legislation procedure whereby individual citizens can propose various measures creating or altering laws. Generally, such a process is started with the gathering of a large number of signatures. There is interest in whether or not there are fraudulent signatures present in such a petition, and if so what percentage of the signatures are indeed fraudulent. However, due to the large number of signatures (tens of thousands), it is not feasible to have a document examiner verify the signatures directly. Instead, there is interest in creating a subset of signatures where there is a high probability of fraud that can be verified. We present a method by which a pairwise comparison of signatures can be performed and subsequent sorting can generate such subsets. © 2009 SPIE-IS&T.

Disasters such as the 9/11 attacks, as well as major and unpredictable events, can cause extreme network overload. By "extreme overload" we mean, first, that the offered load at a link is significantly higher than the link's capacity, and second, that the average throughput per session is too low. Under such conditions, the network can suffer from a form of "livelock" in which even though links axe fully utilized, most users cannot complete their transfers. The underlying reasons are that the network carries many retransmitted packets, and that it services flows that are finally aborted by users or applications. To prevent extreme network overload, we propose a router mechanism called Guardian. Guardian is a form of admission control module that is automatically activated when it detects the onset of extreme overload at a network link. Guardian's objective is to allow at least some sessions to complete, rejecting new TCP or UDP sessions that would probably not manage to acquire a minimum acceptable throughput. Guardian does not require signalling, and. it can be implemented using standard techniques for session counting and caching. This paper describes on-going work. As such, we focus on the motivation for the proposed mechanism, and on Guardian's main design.

Imaging Applications in the Work World 1988

Over the past several years, the Electronic Publishing Group at the MIT Media Laboratory has been conducting a family of media experiments which explore a new kind of broadcast: the distribution of data and computer programs rather than pre-packaged material. This broadcast is not directed to a human recipient, but to a local computational agent acting on his behalf. In response to instructions from both the broadcaster and the reader, this agent selects from the incoming data and presents it in a manner suggestive of traditional media. The embodiment of these media experiments is a news retrieval system where the news editor has been replaced by the personal computer. A variety of both local and remote databases which operate passively as well as interac-tively are accessed by "reporters." These "reporters" are actually software interfaces, which are programmed to gather news. Ideally, they are "broadcatching"; that is to say, watching all broadcast television channels, listening to all radio transmissions, and reading all newspapers, magazines, and journals. 1 A possible consequence of the synthesis of media through active processing is the merger of newspapers and television (figure 1). The result is either a newspaper with illustrations which move 2 or, conversely, print as television output. The latter is the theme of Network Plus.

Due to the high complexity and difficulty distinguishing different tea leaf grades in machine-picked fresh tea and avoiding subjective factors, this paper proposes a geometric feature-based grading method for fresh tea classification. It classifies three common types of fresh tea leaves in factories: single bud(A0), one bud with one leaf(A1), and one with two leaves(A2). Firstly, the collected samples of fresh tea leaves are preprocessed, including target cropping, shadow removal, and image denoising. Then, the image is grayscale and binarized to extract the contour of the fresh leaves. Next, the Douglas-Peucker algorithm is used to approximate the edge contour of the fresh tea leaves with a polygon, and the contour edges are extended along a specific vertex. The position relationship between an arbitrary point on the extension line and the polygon contour determines the convex-concave nature of the vertex. Then, the initial key points of the tea leaf contour are found among all convex vertices of the polygon contour based on geometric distance, and the remaining key points are found by combining the initial key points and the concave points of the contour. Finally, fresh tea leaves are classified based on the number of key points. The results show that the accuracy of fresh tea grading can reach 97.08%, effectively classifying fresh tea and providing a reference for objective grading of fresh tea. © 2024 SPIE.

Compared with short-term target tracking, long-term target tracking requires processing of long video sequences and scenes in which the target disappears and reappears. These scenarios are closer to reality, so the research of long-term target tracking algorithms is more practical. In this paper, the long-term target tracking algorithm is divided into two parts, local tracking and global detection. The local tracking module adopts Siam RPN framework, which can not only give the optimal candidate when the target exists, but also accurately determine the target does not exist when the target disappears and enter the global detection module. For the global detection, we propose a new global detection module, which directly predicts the size and position of the target on the whole image based on the target guidance, solves the problem of the original block technology, and greatly improves the tracking speed and accuracy. A large number of experimental results on the VOT-2018LT benchmark show that the proposed method achieves the best performance. © 2024 SPIE.

Encrypted traffic classification can effectively supervise and manage the data traffic transmitted in the network. Most deep learning-based encrypted traffic classification models focus on modeling only one characteristic of the network, but the network traffic has both spatial and temporal characteristics, and part of the research adopts the recurrent neural network training method to grasp the temporal characteristics of the traffic, but there is a low efficiency problem when training the model on sequential data. The model is not efficient. In this paper, we propose ASTNet, an encrypted traffic classification model based on spatio-temporal features. Firstly, the session stream is cut according to the length of 784 bytes and then converted into a grayscale map as the input to the spatial feature extraction sub-module of the ASTNet model. Take out the first 8 data packets in the session stream, then intercept 256 bytes in each data packet, sort them according to the timestamp of the data packets, and use the processed time series as the input of the time feature extraction sub-module of the ASTNet model. Then the output features of the two feature modules are feature fused to obtain the spatiotemporal features of the encrypted traffic, and finally the final classification result is output by the classifier. We conducted on the public dataset ISCXVPN2016 (VPN-nonVPN dataset) experiments were conducted to compare the experimental results with the baseline method, and Experimental results show that our model achieves better results in encrypted traffic classification. © 2024 SPIE.

Image processing places enormous computational demands on current computer systems and in part motivates the design of fine-grained, massively parallel machines. While several architectures have been proposed for image applications, the approach taken with the Connection Machine has been to use a very large number of simple processors, each with a small amount of local memory, and each capable of communicating in an efficient manner with all other processors. In this report, we give our experience with the Connection Machine on a number of computer vision and vision related problems.

In the research of lane detection based on deep learning, this paper proposes an ultra-fast lane line detection network based on hybrid attention *** hybrid attention mechanism network composed of channel attention mechanism and bidirectional attention mechanism is added in the lane detection network based on row classification. The network can effectively extract the structural features of long pixels like lane lines by capturing the global features of the image. And a loss function is introduced which can enhance the network convergence ability when the foreground target is small. This method improves the detection accuracy of the network while slightly affecting the speed but not affecting the real-time performance compared with the original network structure. © 2024 SPIE.

Depth and motion measurements from images have a variety of industrial and non-industrial applications. Underlying these two measurement modalities is the ability to accurately and reliably correlate portions of images separated in space, as in the case of a stereo pair, or time, as in the case of a motion sequence. We have developed a unique correlation algorithm as well as special hardware accelerators to allow it to operate at video frame rate. The ability to make measurements in real time is invaluable in observing algorithm performance on dynamic scenes; real-time feedback has also allowed us to apply these low-level measurements in unique ways to several perceptual tasks. In this paper, we describe our progress in the areas of figure-ground separation and active object tracking using our correlation techniques. We illustrate the use of these capabilities to drive an active camera head and a robot vehicle in person-following demonstrations.

In this paper, the distributed localization problem of wireless sensor networks under minuscule bias injection attacks is studied. It is assumed that the attacker launches minuscule bias injection attacks on the distance measurement between sensors during the localization process of wireless sensor network, and the accumulated bias value has a great impact on the localization accuracy. To solve the above problems, a distributed localization algorithm based on adjacent detection and numerical fitting is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm realizes the detection of minuscule bias injection attacks by adjacent detection and improves the localization accuracy of the algorithm by numerical fitting. Finally, the correctness and superiority of the proposed distributed localization algorithm are verified by simulation experiment. © 2024 SPIE.
