The impact of wavelet based compression on automatic target recognition (ATR) is investigated by applying wavelet compression to test scenes. The correlation algorithms known as maximum average correlation height (MACH) filter and the distance classifier correlation (DCCF) filter are used for ATR. The impact of compressing the correlation filters is also studied. The wavelet compression algorithm makes use of a progressive technique of embedded zerotree wavelet coding followed by adaptive arithmetic coding. Two target data sets are used for testing and training in this study. The first is composed of infrared (IR) images of a T72 tank and BMP armored personnel carrier. The second is a set of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) targets from the publicly released Moving and Stationary Target Acquisition and Recognition (MSTAR) database.

The general problem of precise position estimation is analyzed in the context of quantization errors. A formalism referred to as the locales approach to geometric precision is reviewed. A lower bound on position estimation uncertainty due to quantization is discussed. Some simulation results for an optimal position estimation algorithm, referred to as position decoding, are presented. A generic transform/wavelet compression system is illustrated in Figure 1. In this system, a transform such as the DCT or a wavelet decomposition is first applied to the image. The resulting transform/wavelet coefficients are then quantized and coded to produce the compressed bitstream. The goal of perceptual image coding is not to achieve the best SNR but to produce an image with the best visual fidelity at the target bitrate. To accomplish this goal, the quantizer need to be both frequency and spatially adaptive. As an example of frequency adaptation, DCT based compression systems such as JPEG use a frequency weighted table, Q-table, to adjust the relative value of the quantization stepsizes. The weights typically increase with respect to the frequency to better match the noise masking property of the human visual system (HVS). Similarly, perceptual weighting has also been successfully applied to wavelet based coders, where the frequency bands are weighted based on a wavelet Q-table. As an example of spatial adaptation, the JPEG-Part3 and MPEG allows the Q-table to be scaled by a factor on a block by block basis. Spatial adaptation by scale factor modulation plays two important roles. First it allows the encoder to adaptively quantize each block based on the local spatial characteristics such as edge, texture, flat region, etc. Second it allows the encoder to achieve the target bitrate in a single pass, which is a very desirable feature in a practical coder. In light of this, the wavelet Q-table should also be allowed to change spatially in order to better reflect the HVS's response to various coefficient type, edge, texture, etc. This paper describes how spatial and frequency adaptive scalar quantization can be used in a wavelet coding framework, both embedded and non-embedded, to achieve perceptual coding and single-pass rate-control. Intelligent healthcare has become one of the highly regarded fields in the medical industry in China, and intelligent medication delivery devices are an important component within this domain. Intelligent medication delivery devices can prevent delays in medication delivery caused by human errors, improve work efficiency, and ensure quality of service. Particularly during the pandemic, these devices can effectively reduce the risk of infection among healthcare personnel. This paper presents the design of an intelligent medication delivery device based on CNN and OpenCV. The device utilizes a Raspberry Pi 3B+ as the main control unit and incorporates hardware modules such as five-channel grayscale sensors. The device employs the Dijkstra algorithm to determine the shortest path, utilizes OpenCV for image processing, and utilizes CNN for digit recognition. The device simulates medication delivery tasks within hospital wards. Through multiple tests, the device has consistently demonstrated efficient completion of medication delivery tasks. © 2024 SPIE.

The detection of pedestrians in real-world scenes is a daunting task, especially in crowded situations. Our experience over the last years has shown that active shape models (ASM) can contribute significantly to a robust pedestrian detection system. The paper starts with an overview of shape model approaches, it then explains our approach which builds on top of Eigenshape models which have been trained using real-world data. These models are placed over candidate regions and matched to image gradients using a scoring function which integrates i) point distribution, ii) local gradient orientations iii) local image gradient strengths. A matching and shape model update process is iteratively applied in order to fit the flexible models to the local image content. The weights of the scoring function have a significant impact on the ASM performance. We analyze different settings of scoring weights for gradient magnitude, relative orientation differences, distance between model and gradient in an experiment which uses real-world data. Although for only one pedestrian model in an image computation time is low, the number of necessary processing cycles which is needed to track many people in crowded scenes can become the bottleneck in a real-time application. We describe the measures which have been taken in order to improve the speed of the ASM implementation and make it real-time capable. © 2009 SPIE-IS&T.

This paper proposes a novel data security sharing system that integrates attribute-based encryption, keyword fuzzy search, and blockchain technology to address the poor performance and data vulnerability in existing data openness and sharing systems. The proposed system employs the attribute-based encryption algorithm to encrypt data, supplemented by blockchain technology to facilitate system search, thereby establishing the keyword search mechanism and repository for fragile items. The research results demonstrated that the average delay time for data sharing search in the new system ranged from 1.0 to 4.0 seconds, with a reduction of approximately 1100 milliseconds in encryption time compared with other methods. The average initialization time was between 15 and 20 milliseconds. Moreover, at an equivalent transaction volume, the proposed method exhibited a maximum processing time of 11.2 seconds, which was significantly improved by 4.2 seconds compared with other methods. These results underscore the enhanced performance of the proposed method in terms of encryption and keyword search efficiency, indicating its potential to advance data security sharing research and open up a promising path for future investigations. © 2024 SPIE.

To address and resolve the issue of visual detection errors due to the different scale of the target and more blockage in complex traffic environments, a multi-scale enhanced traffic scenario target detection algorithm based on YOLOv5 has been proposed. A multi-branch stacking module MSB is designed to replace the C3 module in the backbone network to enhance the feature extraction capability of the backbone network. Based on the structural design of the CSP, the spatial pooling pyramid module is reconstructed, and the SPPFCSP module is designed to replace the SPPF module to obtain more feature information while ensuring the same receptive field. An additional small-scale target detection layer is constructed by fusing the shallow information of the backbone network and the neck network information. A network with shallow information improves the detection capability of small targets. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm`s mAP@0.5 and mAP@0.75 are 91.5% and 61.5% in the KITTI dataset, respectively, which are improved by 3.8% and 6.2% compared with YOLOv5s. The improved algorithm is executed on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier with a real-time detection rate of more than 30 fps, which meets the speed and accuracy requirements of detection algorithms for in-vehicle scenarios. © 2024 SPIE.

Techniques using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) for the detection of targets such as abandoned landmines or unexploded ordnance (UXO) buried under the ground surface continue to receive considerable attention especially in the area of signal processing. In this paper we consider the problem of eliminating the so-called ground-bounce effect, which is due to the specular ground surface reflections of the radar signal. The ground-bounce returns are often significantly stronger than the reflection from a target and pose a challenging problem. Existing techniques commonly assume that the ground response is constant as the radar equipment moves along a track. By using measured data, we show that this is. for several reasons. an unrealistic assumption. Instead, we consider a semi-parametric model for the ground-bounce that is in better agreement with observed data. Furthermore, we show how this model can be used to derive an accurate and robust but yet conceptually simple algorithm for the removal of the ground return. We demonstrate our technique using data recorded by an ultra-wideband GPR on a U.S. Army test range.

In this paper, the explosion impact resistance of bolt-connected structures is explored, and ALE explosion simulation algorithm is used to simulate and analyze bolt-connected platforms under explosion environment, and the accuracy of the finite element model is verified by comparison with the platform explosion test. Different modeling methods were used to explore the influence of different bolt models on the simulation results. It was found that the solid bolt model had the best effect and the error was the smallest, 1.5%, compared with the experiment. The other parameters of the bolt were kept unchanged, and only the bolt strength grade was changed. The influence of different bolt strength levels on the simulation results was explored. It was found that the maximum displacement of the target plate continued to decrease with the increasing of bolt strength level, and the anti-knock performance continued to improve. The effects of different bolt models and bolt strength grades on the explosion impact resistance of bolt-connected structures are summarized and analyzed, and some theoretical basis and reference are provided for bolt-connected body design of protected vehicles. © 2024 SPIE.
