This paper proposes a state of the art controlsystem for a servicerobotbased on the service/client architecture of Jini over an opennetwork. Jim based on Java runnable on multi-platform is themiddleware technology which is designed for network plug-and-play, no hardware/software distinction, spontaneous networkingand simple connecting procedure. This paper shows thearchitecture of the Java-runnable embedded system and resourcesharing technique based on the Jini technology. Basically theproposed system is open to various client devices such as PC,PDA(Personal Digital Assistance) and possibly informationappliances, differently from the conventional remote controlsystems which use only PC as its client environment to accessthe robotservice. The target robot is teleoperable via thestandard point-and-click mouse commands over the World WideWeb. Some experimental results show the efficiency of theproposed near on-line controlsystem which is designedaccording to the proposed procedure in this paper.
