The Japanese Experiment Module Remote Manipulator system is a robot system for practical use in a manned space system, the International Space Station. It is a macro-micro system of two serial 6-dof manipulators in outside the vehicle and controlled via an operation console in inside the vehicle. Numerous networked computersystems with hierarchical software play important roles supporting its management, human interface and motion control in preprogrammed and manual operations. This paper presents its system features as a highly reliable remote space robot focusing on its telematics aspect and the tele-operation capability from the ground that NASDA has been studying.

Abstract. This paper presents the AEE project (Embedded Electronic Architecture), a French cooperative research and development program whose purpose is to specify new solutions for in-vehicle embedded system development. The Architecture Implementation Language (AIL_Transport) has been defined to specify and describe precisely any vehicle electronic architecture. This language supports the AEE design process, and is used by all designers as the backbone of the architecture development. Finally it is used to define reusable architecture objects.

Deadlock is a circular wait condition that can occur in any multiprogramming, multiprocessing, or distributedcomputersystem. This article focused on the second, third and fourth models of the Knapp hierarchical model called the AND-model, the OR-model and the AND/OR model. In the last model, a task is blocked until it is granted any of the resources it has requested. The classical solution for the AND-model callled the Priority Ceiling Protocol (PCP) is extended to the AND/OR-model. In the aim to extend this solution to distributedsystems, the Rajkumar solution, which consists in the utilization of a global super-priority, is chosen.

The traditional EMS and DMS are in fact dispatcher - oriented. The engineers in other departments such as scheduling and planning, system analysis, protective relay, etc. work with their own independent computer tools developed by different companies. The heterogeneous DB strocture and display management tools make the system maintenance very difficult. In addition, due to the uncompletely consistent power system models, the comparison and analysis of their calculated results also become difticult. The unified support software platform, conistent power system model, coordination and reasonable distribution of functions are expected. To extend the EMS/DMS to a comprehensive automation management system used by all departments of dispatch center is a feasible way. Beijing power system is the largest district system in China. NARI has taken the job of construction of the comprehensive automation system for Beijing Electric -Power Bureau. The architecture of DICOS nodes and the error detection mechanisms used are presented. These mechanisms are based on the internal capabilities of the 16-bit microcontroller used and control flow checking and deadlines control with the aid of a second 8-bit microcontroller.

Decision decentralization, as it is proposed here for FMS control, makes a distributedcontrol possible, which integrates (inside each manufacturing machine) all the ”intelligence“ needed for control and coordination with the whole system. This paper shows that the decision decentralization can be realized for the scheduling layer of the controlsystem, improving in such a way previous results obtained by the low-level control decentralization. Two policies have been implemented and tested, based for the first one on parallelized heuristic, and for the second one on scheduling rules.
