This article presents results of experiments, which were carried out to discover the impact of memory effect on computing time. A series of runs were conducted to execute sequential and parallel algorithm of solving system of linear equations (SLE) with the steepest-descent method. The quantitative evaluation of parallel algorithm realization exponents in different ranks SLE solving is given. Dependences and factors, which have impact on computing time, are detected. Parallel computing was implemented in the distributed computing system with programmable structure of Novosibirsk State Technical University at Computer Engineering Department

Schedule length and reliability-oriented multi-objective scheduling for distributed computing

Maximizing system reliability and minimizing schedule length are the two major objectives in scheduling a distributed computing system. These two objectives have been considered separately by most researchers, although more realistically they should be considered simultaneously. This paper addresses the problem by taking a multi-objective approach in scheduling. A Tabu search algorithm is proposed and two lateral interference schemes are used to distribute the Pareto optimal solutions along the Pareto front uniformly. Randomly generated directed acyclic graphs and a real application task graph are used to study the performance of the proposed algorithms. Experimental results show that for this problem lateral interference has no influence on the non-dominated solution number, but does benefit the uniform distribution of non-dominated solutions, irrespective of the computation method used to determine distances between the solutions.

This paper presents an instance based approach to diagnosing failures in computing systems. Owing to the fact that a large portion of occurred failures are repeated ones, our method takes advantage of past experiences by storing historical failures in a database and retrieving similar instances in the occurrence of failure. We extract the system `invariants' by modeling consistent dependencies between system attributes during the operation, and construct a network graph based on the learned invariants. When a failure happens, the status of invariants network, i.e., whether each invariant link is broken or not, provides a view of failure characteristics. We use a high dimensional binary vector to store those failure evidences, and develop a novel algorithm to efficiently retrieve failure signatures from the database. Experimental results in a web based system have demonstrated the effectiveness of our method in diagnosing the injected failures.

This article considers up-to-date problems of parallel computing systems development in Russia. The study describes an engineering of an interface for organization of high-performance system with programmable structure and for its partition to specific subsystems focused on applied tasks. The solution is based on the concept of homogeneous computing systems (HCS) relying on the model of collective of calculators. HCS concept was formulated in the Institute of Mathematics of the USSR under the leadership of E.V. Evreinov in 1962 [1]. The approach is particularly relevant in terms of growing popularity of information networks which combining numerous personal computers (PCs). It's obviously necessary to develop software tools to integrate disparate calculators into the system and identify the required number of sub-systems for specific problem solving. An interference into the hardware and software parts of the calculators must be avoided during the software development process. Programmable structure of the computer system is provided at the stage of unification of calculators into software subsystem interface called an agent of DCS PS. The experience of the development of the Interface organization of distributed computing systems with programmable structure and allocation of subsystems for specific applications. The software described in the present document has been tested while an experimental organization of the DCS PS at the department of the computer engineering of NSTU.

A Sharable Storage Service for distributed computing systems in Combination of Remote and Local Storage

Traditional Grid data management systems have been developed oil the supposition that the network bandwidth is unconstrained with dedicated broadband network lines and the storage space is enough for storing replicas. This paper proposes a storage service for distributed computing systems without the supposition, by adopting the concept of pervasive storage in the distributed computing. The Sharable Storage space is recognized as the application server's local storage. Whenever the user commits, data transfer is automatically performed using iSCSI protocol. The storage service is destined for numerous data transfer of relatively small filed, and simulated under the condition of a restrictive network bandwidth. File preloading function could make the applications start early without dedicated broadband network lines. The computing sites could benefit from the proposed storage service than waiting until the whole file is transferred for replication and keeping the replica stored without the users' explicit note for reuse.

Web Services Technology, as a distributed computing System, is the next thread in the development of the Internet;it allows active objects to be located on websites, offering distributed services to potential clients. The most crucial benefit of web services is interaction machine-to-machine. Web services allow applications to be integrated more quickly, easily and cheaply. Web services provide interoperation between different software applications and object-oriented programming languages, running on many platforms. The object-oriented programming languages, which are being used by students, teachers and professionals, have been designed and rapidly promoted by their developers, researchers and interested companies. So, in this paper we will focus on the principles of differentiating between object-oriented programming languages by comparing their criteria and features. The main point of this article is to compare, analyse, explore, investigate and discuss the issues and measurements of these languages, which have proven to be a powerful resource in assisting humans in many and various applications. In addition, we show the capabilities of these languages;this should help those trying to appreciate their technical differences and similarities.

In this paper, authors offer the new method of the organization of the distributed computations. The main benefit of proposed method is possibility of using resources of many different private computers for solving coherent tasks. Proposed method allow correcting the computational process when computing nodes parameters change. computing system achieves this ability because it consists of equal proactive agents, which interact to create communities to solve incoming tasks. While creating the community agents optimize it composition to solve user task in time and to minimize needed computing resources.
