The article focuses on the possibilities of controlling energy processes using a distributed control system 800xA from the company ABB. The principle is explained on the example of controlling the pyrolysis unit. First, the article discusses the design of new hardware needed to control the pyrolysis process. The second chapter deals with the creation of a control application in the control Builder environment, where the solution of optimal heating is given, considering the large thermal inertia of heating using resistance spirals. The third chapter describes the possibilities of creating a graphical control display for control from a PC in the Engineering Workplace environment. The article is devoted to solving the problem of designing a distributed control system for a network of production wells on the example of mineral water deposits in the Caucasus Mineral Waters region, Russia. The purpose was to determine the set of parameters of the controlsystem to ensure technologically effective and safe operating modes of mineral water deposits. A mathematical model of the deposit was developed taking into account the given configuration and production rate of the network of the wells. The detailed algorithm is presented for designing the controlsystem under consideration based on the frequency concept of analysis and synthesis for distributed control systems. The experimental tests and model validation were performed at the production wells facility of "Narzan", Kislovodsk, Russia. The results of modeling and field experiments confirmed the adequacy of the mathematical model and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The authors came to the conclusion that the adapted mathematical model can be used to create a regional automated field cluster management system for monitoring, operational management and forecasting the nature of real hydrogeological processes and ensuring their stability.

In most MMC distributedcontrol structures, in order to perform the phase average capacitor voltage (PACV), the information about the capacitor voltage of the sub-module (SM) sampled by the local controller must be transmitted to the central controller through the communication network. This mode will cause serious communication burden when the number of MMC sub-modules is large. Two capacitor voltage round-robin transmission modes (RRTMs) have been proposed to reduce the communication burden caused by transmitting capacitor voltages. This paper mainly discusses the modeling and control performance of the PACV loop with two RRTMs, to contribute to the selection of appropriate transmission mode and round-robin frequency based on MMC system requirements.

Compared with traditional centralized control strategies, the distributed control systems significantly improve the flexibility and expandability of an modular multilevel converter (MMC). However, the stability issue in the MMC distributed control system with the presence of control loop coupling interactions is rarely discussed in existing research works. This article is to improve the stability of an MMC distributed control system by inhibiting the control conflict due to the coupling interactions among control loops with incomplete control information. By modeling the MMC distributed control system, the control loop coupling interactions are analyzed and the essential cause of control conflict is revealed. Accordingly, a control parameter design principle is proposed to effectively suppress the disturbances from the targeted control conflict and improve the MMC system stability. The rationality of the theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the control parameter design principle are confirmed by simulation and experimental results.

The long-term storage and disposal of radioactive waste is one of the major problems in nuclear energy. Deep geological disposal is widely agreed to be the best solution for storage of the radioactive waste. It is deposited in these repositories by conventional vehicles with human operator, which is exposed to radiation. For this reason, it is appropriate to develop new vehicles for the transport and storage of spent radioactive fuel that operates autonomously without the presence of an operator. Rail vehicles are most fitting type of transportation of the nuclear waste due high load capacity. The autonomous operation of this vehicles requires high demands on the controlsystem, control strategy and safety. This article presents the design and implementation of distributed control system of rail vehicle for transport and storage of the waste. It includes the controlsystem and strategy for coupling/decoupling and movement of connected vehicles. With the penetration of real-time Ethernet in industry, the mechanism of CANopen protocol based on real-time Ethernet (COE) has been widely used in various distributed control systems. However, due to some defects of the existing COE mechanism, the functional integrity and security for communication could not be guaranteed. Thus, Safe-COE architecture is designed in this paper. First, safe communication problems in systems are analyzed. Then, based on the Security and Safety Modeling (SESAMO) method, safe building blocks for communication are designed and combining these building blocks with Safe-COE mechanism, a kind of Safe-COE communication architecture is proposed. Finally, communication performance is tested based on this architecture. The results show that based on the general Ethernet MII bus interface, the minimum communication cycle could reach 125 mu s, and the minimum synchronization accuracy of peripherals control could be about 100 ns. Moreover, the formal modeling method is used to verify the safe integrity of this architecture. The results show that the architecture could meet related safe requirements of attack protection, data validation, disconnect monitoring, and state switching. Currently, there is no safe communication architecture for a distributed control system that could fully meet related standards and consider both functional safety and information security. It could provide a theoretical basis and solution for safe communication in the distributed control system.

Vision-based myoelectric prosthetic hand uses a camera integrated into its body for object detection and environment understanding, where the results provide necessary information for grasp planning. It is expected that the semi-automatic prosthesis control can be realized with this method. However, such a control method usually suffers from heavy computation due to the requirement of real-time image processing to keep up with the arm movements of the user. This paper presents a distributed control system that assigns heavy processing tasks to one or multiple processing nodes through the network, which greatly reduces the computation burdens of the processor embedded in the prosthetic hand. In this control scheme, the embedded system in the prosthetic hand is only used for gathering necessary data for grasp planning, while the processing nodes in the network are responsible for processing and managing the collected data. A test platform is built to verify the proposed control scheme. The test platform streams user electromyography (EMG) signals and images simultaneously to the GPU server. The GPU sever analyzes the received data and generates the corresponding motor commands in real time. A case study that uses a 3-DoF gripper to continuously grasp several objects is performed using this test platform.

Engine controlsystem is currently changing from centralized approach to distributed approach, using digital bus communications instead of point-to-point analog communications. distributed sensors and actuators in the system will introduce network induced multiple delays and data packet dropout. However, much of research is concerned about the stability of the system lacking the focus on the performance of the system. In this paper, a design method of guaranteed cost controller is proposed for the problem of multi-packet transmission delay and packet dropout in the distributed engine controlsystem. First, a system model of distributed control system with multiple delay and packet dropout is established. Then, a guaranteed cost controller design theorem in the form of bilinear matrix inequalities is given base on Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem, and solved by a cone-compensation linearization (CCL) method. Finally, simulation verification is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the guaranteed cost controller designed. According to the method, the cost bound is calculated and the corresponding controller can ensure system's dynamic performance under different multi-delay and packet losses.

This paper describes a distributed control system (DCS) for ship engines using a dual fieldbus. Communication among DCS entities is provided by considering the redundancy between Modbus and the controller area network (CAN) bus. The dual fieldbus consists of Modbus and an alternative CAN bus. Owing to its short time frame, CAN networks have the advantage of a short time latency. Moreover, Modbus is a simple protocol and is powerful in its support of many types of real-time industrial applications. By considering the benefits of both Modbus and CAN bus, a DCS based on a dual fieldbus for monitoring and controlling the condition of a ship engine has been proposed. In the proposed scheme, Modbus has been used as a primary communication link for engine system. If link errors arise with Modbus, the system automatically switches to CAN in a reliable way. The performance of the proposed DCS has been tested and evaluated by a real implementation in a testbed. The experimental results show that the proposed DCS satisfies the redundancy time required by the International Association of Classification Societies.
