A geographically isolated disaster-tolerant system for distributed file system (DFS) is essential for its enhancement in data security. However, the plain disaster tolerant model performs poor quality while a switch happens in hot-backup. In this study, we proposed a Direct Data Fetch (DDF) technology for the hybrid model. The DDF can fetch data directly from the data chunk server while the main server is temporarily unavailable. Then, we implemented the model on MooseFS, and compared it with IBM Peer-to-Peer Remote Copy (PPRC) technology. The test results indicate that DDF technology enhanced the stability and performance during the switch process of disaster tolerant model, and performs best in small quantities of files.

In this research, we propose a new distributed PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication systems) which is available to integrate several PACSs that exist in each medical institution. The conventional PACS controls DICOM file into one data-base. On the other hand, in the proposed system, DICOM file is separated into meta data and image data and those are stored individually. Using this mechanism, since file is not always accessed the entire data, some operations such as finding files, changing titles, and so on can be performed in highspeed. At the same time, as distributed file system is utilized, accessing image files can also achieve high-speed access and high fault tolerant. The introduced system has a more significant point. That is the simplicity to integrate several PACSs. In the proposed system, only the meta data servers are integrated and integrated system can be constructed. This system also has the scalability of file access with along to the number of file numbers and file sizes. On the other hand, because meta-data server is integrated, the meta data server is the weakness of this system. To solve this defect, hieratical meta data servers are introduced. Because of this mechanism, not only faulttolerant ability is increased but scalability of file access is also increased. To discuss the proposed system, the prototype system using Gfarm was implemented. For evaluating the implemented system, file search operating time of Gfarm and NFS were compared.

Throughput and latency are the two important performance indicators for distributed file systems. Google has achieved a great success with Google file system (GFS) when operating big files, but the latency is too big when reading and writing small files. In this paper, we propose a small-file writing acceleration mechanism (SFWM) for distributed file system. SFWM optimizes access paths of writing to disks and uses an asynchronous method to accelerate the writing. Experiments in the distributed file system, SandBox show that the time to write small-file using SFWM is significantly reduced compared with the writing time in MooseFS and the throughput of writing using SFWM is improved.

distributed file systems are building blocks for cloud computing. Here, nodes simultaneously serve computing and storage functions. file is partitioned into number of chunks allocated with distinct nodes so that tasks can be performed in parallel over the nodes. In a cloud computing environment, failure can occur, and nodes can be upgraded, replaced, and added to the system. files can be dynamically created, deleted, or appended, that results in load imbalance in the distributed file system. Emerging distributed file systems in production systems strongly depend on a central node for chunk reallocation. The dependence is clearly inadequate in large-scale environment because the central load balancer is put under considerable workload that is linearly scaled with the system size, and thus leads to performance bottleneck and the single point of failure. Here in this paper, a fully distributed load balancing algorithm is presented to cope with the load imbalance problem.

With the rapid development of internet, the distributed file system is gradually facing problem of supporting concurrent 10 K and 100 K servers operations, so it now becomes an important issue that how to improve performance of the metadata server in high concurrent reading/writing environments. This paper designs and implements the distributed file system named RaccoonFS, researches and solves the problem of low response speed of namespace management brought by the lock competition in distributed file system, and it proposes a new metadata namespace management method that realized the technology of Copy-On-Write and Multi-Version Concurrency Control in B+ tree. Through the evaluation, the namespace management that combined COW and MVCC in B+ tree greatly improved the read and write performance.

The conventional distributed file system is designed for LAN environment. They always play poor performance in WAN. In this paper we present a novel distributed file system: The Mobile Agent-based distributed file system (MADFS). The objective of MADFS is to reduce the overhead of network transfer and cache management inherent to the distribution of a distributed files system in WAN. The MADFS organizes hosts into a hierarchical structure, and uses mobile agents as the underlying facility for transmission, communication and synchronization. We also present a novel cache coherency mechanism for MADFS: Hierarchical and Convergent Cache Coherency Mechanism (HCCM). HCCM can effectively reduce the overhead of cache coherency management in distributed file system. In this paper, we also build an analysis model for HCMM and compare the performance to single-layer mode. The comparing results show that HCMM has better performance in WAN. In conclusion, MADFS can achieve better performance and availability than conventional distributed file system in WAN.

A distributed file system integrates the storage devices on the network and stores files on remote file servers so that clients can access them through Internet anytime and anywhere. However, to ensure the reliability and security of critical data, the maintenance cost is usually high. Some researches propose solutions to use webspace as storage. These are efficient for individual users or small enterprises. However, these solutions have three drawbacks: 1) they support only single specific webspace, 2) they can not ensure data confidentiality, and 3) they can not ensure data reliability. This paper introduces a distributed file system, the General file system (GFS), which integrates the advantage of distributed file system and the convenience of webspace. GFS also integrates several heterogeneous spaces and promises the reliability and security. Besides, for users, it is easy to operate GFS through the interface provided by the virtual file system. At the end, the experiments result shows that GFS outperform than other solutions using webspace.

Repository for multimedia data differs from that of the traditional text-based data both in storage space and streaming bandwidth requirements. The file systems used in multimedia environment need to support large volumes and high bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a novel scalable distributed file system built using Autonomous Disks. Autonomous disks are attached directly to the network and are able to perform lightweight processing. We discuss different ways to realize autonomous disk, and describe a prototype implementation on Linux platform using PC-based hardware. We present the design methodology and a prototype Linux-based implementation of the distributed file system that supports them We detail experimental results on the performance of the proposed file system prototyped using autonomous disks. We show that the performance of the fire system scales linearly with the number of disks and the number of clients. The file system performs much superior to NFS running on the same hardware platform and ran deliver higher raw disk bandwidth to the applications. We also show that the file system can provide strict bandwidth guarantees for multimedia streams.

Database engines and file systems have been using prefetching and caching technologies for decades to enhance the performance of I/O-intensive applications. When future data access needs to be accelerated, prefetching methods often provide gains depending on the latency of the entire system by loading primary memory elements. Its execution time, where the data level prefetching rules are set, has to be much improved, as they are challenging to optimize, comprehend, and manage. This paper aims to introduce a novel distributed file system (DFS) model through dynamic prefetching, that includes four processes such as (1) Identification of popular files, (2) Estimation of support value for a file block, (3) Extraction of frequent block access patterns, and (4) Matching algorithm. At first, the input files are given to the first phase (i.e.), identification of popular sizes, where the popular files are identified. The support value of the file blocks that correspond to popular files is calculated in the second stage. Then, the extraction of frequent block access patterns is done in the third phase. At last, in the matching algorithm, the identification or prediction of frequent access pattern of the query is done by the optimized Neural Network (NN). Here, the weight of NN is optimally tuned by the Harmonic Mean based Grey Wolf Optimization (HMGWO) *** proposed NN + HMGWO model produces reduced FPR values with good quality, which are 70.84%, 73.86%, 70.51%, 62.90%, 55.76%, 78.63%, and 73.86%, respectively, in comparison to other standard models like NN + WOA, NN + GWO, NN + PSO, NN + FF, FBAP, NN, and SVM. Lastly, the effectiveness of a chosen scheme is compared to other current methods in terms of delay analysis, latency analysis, hit ratio analysis, and correspondingly.

We also present bandwidth and time sensitive read/write procedures for the file system and show that the file system can provide strict bandwidth guarantees for continuous media streams.
