This paper investigates a distributed optimization problem associated a time-varying multi-agent network with the presence of delays, where each agent has local access to its convex objective function, and cooperatively minimizes a sum of convex objective functions of the agents over the network. Based on the mirror descent method, we develop a distributed algorithm to solve this problem by exploring the delayed gradient information. Furthermore, we analyze the effects of delayed gradients on the convergence of the algorithm and provide an explicit bound on the convergence rate as a function of the delay parameter, the network size and topology. Our results show that the delays are asymptotically negligible for smooth problems. The proposed algorithm can be viewed as a generalization of the distributed gradient-based projection methods since it utilizes a customized Bregman divergence instead of the usual Euclidean squared distance. Finally, some simulation results on a logistic regression problem are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Message Distribution Mechanism Based on distributed Game Theory in Lte-V Network

When vehicles are located on the edge of cells or in areas without network coverage, it's difficult for them to access to cellular network and communicate with base stations. To solve the problem, this paper takes the characteristics of LTE-V network and the high-speed mobility of VANETs into consideration, and establishes a model of coalitional game with transferable payoff. In the design of utility function, we also consider the expected throughput of nodes and transmission delay, and propose a multi-objective coalition formation algorithm. The simulation results show that the message distribution mechanism can solve the multi-objective optimization problem proposed in the paper effectively, and enable more vehicles to receive required messages in short time.

Formation of microgrids have been proposed as a solution to improve grid reliability, and enable smoother integration of renewables into the grid. Microgrids are sections of the grid that can operate in isolation from the main power system. Maintaining power balance within an islanded microgrid is a challenging task, due to the low system inertia, which requires complex control to maintain stable and optimized operation. Many studies have demonstrated feasible distributed microgrid controllers that can maintain microgrid stability in grid connected and islanded modes. However, there is little emphasis on how to implement these distributed algorithms on a computational platform that allows for fast and seamless deployment. This paper introduces a decentralized software platform called Resilient Information Architecture Platform for Smart Systems (RIAPS) that runs on processors embedded with the microgrid component. As an example, we describe the implementation of a distributed microgrid secondary control and resynchronization algorithms on RIAPS platform. The controller developed on RIAPS platform is validated on a real-time microgrid testbed.

Pricing-Based distributed Energy-Efficient Beamforming for MISO Interference Channels

In this paper, we consider the problem of maximizing the weighted sum energy efficiency (WS-EE) for multi-input single-output (MISO) interference channels (ICs), which are well acknowledged as general models of heterogeneous networks (HetNets), multicell networks, etc. To address this problem, we develop an efficient distributed beamforming algorithm based on a pricing mechanism. Specifically, we carefully introduce a price metric for distributed beamforming design, which fortunately allows efficient closed-form solutions to the per-user beam-vector optimization problem. The convergence of the distributed pricing-based beamforming design is theoretically proven. Furthermore, we present an implementation strategy of the proposed distributed algorithm with limited information exchange. Numerical results show that our algorithm converges much faster than existing algorithms, while yielding comparable, sometimes even better performance in terms of the WS-EE. Finally, by taking the backhaul power consumption into account, it is interesting to show that the proposed algorithm with limited information exchange achieves better WS-EE than the full information exchange-based algorithm in some special cases.

In a multiple-message broadcast, an arbitrary number of messages originate at arbitrary nodes in the network at arbitrary times. The problem is to disseminate all these messages to the whole network. This paper gives the first randomized distributed multiple-message broadcast algorithm with worst-case performance guarantee in wireless ad hoc networks employing the SINE interference model which takes interferences from all the nodes in the network into account. The network model used in this paper also considers the harsh characteristics of wireless ad hoc networks: there is no prior structure, and nodes cannot perform collision detection and have little knowledge of the network topology. Under all these restrictions, our proposed randomized distributed multiple-message broadcast protocol can deliver any message m to all nodes in the network in 0 (D + k + log(2) n) timeslots with high probability, where D is the network diameter, k is the number of messages whose broadcasts overlap with m, and n is the number of nodes in the network. We also study the lower bound for randomized distributed multiple-message broadcast protocols. In particular, we prove that any uniform randomized algorithm needs Omega(D + k + log(2) n / log log log n) timeslots to disseminate k messages initially stored at k nodes. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. Dynamic p-graphs for capturing the dynamics of distributed systems

The dynamics of a mobile dynamic distributed system depends on both the node mobility and the capacity of the underlying communication protocol. To qualify the dynamics of a distributed system, the family of dynamic p-graphs is introduced in this paper, constituting a finite set of dynamic graphs, each of them being a sequence of observed graphs, with the particularity that their edges allow transferring p messages. The family of dynamic p-graphs allows the characterization and the comparison of dynamic distributed systems of very different nature. It is also used to evaluate the ability of algorithms themselves to support a given dynamic distributed system. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We consider the power allocation for the two-tier heterogeneous network where a macrocell (MC) coexists with multiple femtocells (FCs). Each FC aims to maximize the weighted sum-rate of its users subject to MC signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) balancing, which means that a prescribed SINR is guaranteed to MC users. We formulate a noncooperative game which captures bidirectional cross-tier interference. We develop a fully decentralized algorithm, and derive a sufficient condition for its convergence to a unique equilibrium.

In the binary majority voting problem, each node initially chooses between two alternative choices. The goal is to design a distributed algorithm that informs nodes which choice is in majority. In this study, the authors formulate this problem as a hypothesis testing problem and propose fixed-size and sequential solutions using classical and Bayesian approaches. In the sequential version, the proposed mechanism enables nodes to test which choice is in majority, successively in time. Hence, termination of the algorithm is embedded within it, contrary to the existing approaches which require a monitoring algorithm to indicate the termination. This property makes the algorithm more efficient in terms of message complexity. Furthermore, the authors show that the proposed solution is resilient to Byzantine attacks if network connectivity is F + 1 in the presence of F adversarial nodes. Thus, the proposed algorithm is more robust compared with the previous works which are vulnerable to the existence of adversarial nodes.

distributed power control with soft removal for uplink energy harvesting wireless network

For an energy harvesting wireless network (EHWN), power oscillation will occur in uplink signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio-based power control if some energy-non-supported nodes exist. Power oscillation will destroy power control algorithm's convergence and influence the system's stabilisation no matter the EHWN is feasible or infeasible. Unfortunately, existing algorithms cannot avoid the power oscillation. Therefore, the authors propose a new distributed algorithm which contains a soft removal mechanism to solve this problem in this study. Some energy harvesting nodes should be removed softly both in terms of their energy state information and channel state information. The convergence of the authors' proposed algorithm can be guaranteed and power oscillation can be avoided in both feasible and infeasible EHWN. Simulation results verify their analysis and show that their algorithm brings less outage ratio than other algorithms.

distributed Point-Based Gaussian Approximation Filtering for Forecasting-Aided State Estimation in Power Systems

This paper proposes a new distributed framework for forecasting-aided state estimation in electric power systems, modeled by a nonlinear dynamic system. We first introduce the point-based Gaussian approximation filters that use Gaussian approximation and various quadrature rules for computing the related posteriors. These filters feature higher tracking accuracy for nonlinear systems compared to the conventional method, e.g., the extended Kalman filter (EKF). Then, motivated by the increasing demands for wide-area monitoring, we develop the distributed version of the point-based Gaussian approximation filter, based on statistical linearization. In distributed state estimation, each sub-station can only access their local measurements. In the absence of a control center, the average consensus algorithm is applied such that the sub-stations can maintain the global state through information exchange with neighbors.
