Adaptive network coded cooperation (ANCC) scheme has been shown to have better performance than the conventional repetition-based schemes and the space-time coded cooperation (STCC) frameworks for data transmissions from a large collection of terminals to a common destination in large wireless networks. However, the random selection strategy for ANCC protocol may generate many short cycles in the distributed low-density generator-matrix(LDGM) codes, which may cause error-floor and performance degradation. In this paper, an optimized relay selection strategy for ANCC is proposed. By exploiting information interaction between destination and terminals before data communication, and matching the instantaneous network topology, the proposed method generates ensembles of distributed LDGM codes free of short cycles. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed relay selection protocol significantly outperforms the random relay selection strategy for various network sizes and different fixed numbers of selected terminals.

This paper proposes an optimal relay selection criteria based on the location of the relay (0 <= lambda <= 1) relative to source and destination in the cooperative coded system. The proposed optimization algorithm employs distributed turbo product coding technique with hard and soft decoding. It is shown that the link quality depends on the location of the relay which in turn affects overall system Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. The simulation model creates several scenarios for location of intermediate relays when the inter-user channel is experiencing distortion in presence of different Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR)s. It is observed that the link performance degrades as the relay proximity changes with respect to the source and the destination. The relay selection optimization algorithm provides the participating nodes necessary information to select neighboring nodes depending on link quality, thus lowering the BER and increasing the overall network capacity.

In this paper we address visual communications via printing channels from an information-theoretic point of view as communications with side information. The solution to this problem addresses important aspects of multimedia data processing, security and management, since printed documents are still the most common form of visual information representation. Two practical approaches to side information communications for printed documents are analyzed in the paper. The first approach represents a layered joint source-channel coding for printed documents. This approach is based on a self-embedding concept where information is first encoded assuming a Wyner-Ziv set-up and then embedded into the original data using a Gel'fand-Pinsker construction and taking into account properties of printing channels. The second approach is based on Wyner-Ziv and Berger-Flynn-Gray set-ups and assumes two separated communications channels where an appropriate distributed coding should be elaborated. The first printing channel is considered to be a direct visual channel for images ("analog" channel with degradations). The second "digital channel" with constrained capacity is considered to be an appropriate auxiliary channel. We demonstrate both theoretically and practically how one can benefit from this sort of "distributed paper communications".

Retransmission of user's data at partner node in repetition based cooperative protocols decreases bandwidth efficiency and imposes overhead on cooperative signalling. In this paper we propose two full-duplex distributed cooperative protocols for OFDM systems, that improve BER performance and decrease overhead without any hardware changes in comparison with the conventional cooperative protocols. In the proposed full-duplex distributed cooperative system, the partner node retransmits a part of the information on high quality subcarriers that belong to the user's data instead of all received ones. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation study is presented to reveal the superior performance of the distributed decoding system as compared to that of the conventional cooperative schemes for the OFDM scheme.

Being the revolutionary future networking architecture, information-centric networking (ICN) conducts network distribution based on content, which is ideally suitable for Internet of things (IoT). With the rapid growth of network traffic, compared to the conventional IoT, information-centric Internet of things (IC-IoT) is expected to provide users with the better satisfaction of the network quality of service (QoS). However, due to IC-IoT requirements of low latency, large data volume, marginalization, and intelligent processing, it urgently needs an efficient content distribution system. In this paper, we propose an edge learning based green content distribution scheme for IC-IoT. We implement intelligent path selection based on decision tree and edge calculation. Moreover, we apply distributed coding based content transmission to enhance the speed and recovery capability of content. Meanwhile, we have verified the effectiveness and performance of this scheme based on a large number of simulation experiments. The work of this paper is of great significance to improve the efficiency and flexibility of content distribution in IC-IoT.

We propose a practical distributed coding scheme in half-duplex multi-hop networks, aiming at reducing the interference resulting from concurrent transmission by different nodes. Although interference is a fundamental obstacle to achieve high data rates in this scenario, a systematic approach to deal with this problem has not yet been addressed in the context of code design. We propose a general framework analogous to D-BLAST in MIMO communications, and particularize it to simpler scenarios. The proposed approach is validated by theoretical analysis and simulation results.

We propose a new method for low -complexity compression of multispectral images based on universal vector quantization. Our approach generalizes the recently developed theory of universal scalar quantization to vector quantization, and uses it in the context of distributed coding. We exploit the availability of side information on the decoder to reduce the encoding rate of a vector quantizer, applied to compressed measurements of the image. The encoding reuses quantization labels to label multiple quantization cells and leverages the side information to select the correct cell at the decoder. The image is reconstructed using weighted total variation minimization, incorporating side information in the weights while enforcing consistency with the recovered quantization cell.

In this paper, distributed generalized parallel concatenated Turbo-like (GPCT) codes are presented for the cooperative network that comprises one source, one destination and multiple relays. Specifically, using the error correcting capabilities of the repeat-convolute (repeat-q-times) codes, each relay node decodes what they receive, and the active relays forward the parity checks of different constituent repeat-convolute codes while others keep silent, thus, forming a distributed GPCT code at the destination. Under the assumption of maximum-likelihood (ML) decoding at the destination, it is proven that in this scheme with J active relay nodes and the signal-to-noise (SNR) of each channel is sufficiently high, the system asymptotic behavior of the bit error rate (BER) goes as N-/q(j-1)/2-1

Acquiring and processing astronomical images is becoming increasingly important for accurate space weather prediction and expanding our understanding about the Sun and the Universe. These images are often rich in content, large in size and dynamic range. Efficient, low-complexity compression solutions are essential to reduce onboard storage, processing, and communication resources. distributed compression is a promising technique for onboard coding of solar images by exploiting correlation between successively acquired images. In this paper we propose an adaptive distributed compression solution using particle filtering that tracks correlation, as well as performing disparity estimation, at the decoder side. The proposed algorithm is tested on the stereo solar images captured by the twin satellites system of NASA's STEREO project. Our experimental results show the significant PSNR improvement over traditional separate bit-plane decoding without dynamic correlation and disparity estimation.

Mobile Sensor networks have become a hot topic of research in the last decade. There are a lot of new applications which employ this kind of network architecture. For example, Body Area Network (BAN) is a new application where multiple sensors on different body parts simultaneously transmit their data to a monitoring unit. In the case of numerous sensors, the addition of active relays which can act as parity nodes in a bipartite graph enables to obtain redundant information to improve the integrity of the transmission. The network topology is somewhat equivalent to that of a block code. However, in the case of a small number of sensors, this technique becomes less efficient. On the other hand, using Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocol, one can avoid transmission errors. In this paper we propose a protocol to combine the two correction methods mentioned above (relaying and ARQ) for mobile sensor networks for a small number of sensors which operate on quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel. coding error correction is first applied, and then a detection layer will be added to detect errors that were not corrected by the error correction code. Power saving which is crucial in mobile sensor network is greatly improved by our proposed algorithm.
