Smart grid is an important application of Internet Of Things (I0T). Monitoring data in large-scale smart grid are massive, real-time and dynamic that collected by a lot of sensors, services components etc. There are many challenges in deploying and managing distributed real time monitoring systems. This paper adopted data-centric approach in deploying distributed complex event processing (DCEP) monitoring system based on OMG Data Distribution Service (DDS) middleware, to bring about a more robust and scalable distributed monitoring system, and that easier to maintain and enhance over time. The DDS data-centric publish-subscribe programming model with support for a number of QoS properties gives many advantages for supporting DCEP components communications, that reliably transports events from data producers to event processing Agents (EPAs), between internal DCEP processing Node (PN), and from the EPAs to the event consumers. This paper analyzed DCEP requirements in IoT, and its PN configuration and deployment flow, designed a DDS/DCEP integration architecture for smart grid IoT monitoring system, and gave a detail design about DCEP development and configuration method based on DDS data-centric programming model, that can simplify the DCEP complex deployment work. This work has beneficial for DECP large scale development & deployment research.

In this paper, a distributed solution is presented for the composition of complex event services in the Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The composition of objects services in the IoT environment requires scalable and adaptable methods due to the dynamics of the network. The dynamics accommodate both the large volume of objects and the tolerance of object displacement and link failure. The composition of complex event services is more scalable and reusable. The composition of these services is done in several steps. First, the user's goals are transformed into an event schema through a backward-chaining mechanism. Then, the event schema is matched with complex event services in the fog layer. Finally, this event schema is used to access the required services. Besides, heuristic functions are also provided to control network traffic, increase execution consistency, and reduce service failure rates. An extensive evaluation of various metrics has been done. The results show that the proposed solution is scalable and adaptable in a hierarchical IoT network with mobile objects.

complex event processing (CEP) is an emerging software technology for detecting business-relevant situations in streams of events and for providing these detected situations to business processes that are interested in it. While currently CEP-systems are mostly deployed within a single business domain at a limited scale, the cooperative nature of business applications gives reason that complex event processing will soon address multiple business domains and involve an increasingly large number of business events. In order to ensure interoperability as well as efficient utilization of processing and network capability, we motivate the need for heterogeneous correlation technology in the context of business applications. In this article we give an overview of the project "distributed heterogeneous event processing" (DHEP) involving the IBM Bblingen lab and the Universitat Stuttgart, where this need is adressed. The key aspect of the project is the deployment of collections of event correlation rules to a network of heterogeneous event correlation engines. We give an overview of challenges and possible solutions for the dynamic configuration of such environments and present our architecture which supports network-wide cooperation between different correlation engines.

The amount of data created in various sources over the Web is tremendously increasing. Trying to keep track of relevant sources is an increasingly time-consuming task. The traditional way of accessing information over the Web is pull-based. Users need to query data sources in certain time intervals where an important piece of information can be lately recognized or even missed completely. Technologies including RSS help users to get push-based notifications from websites. Discovering the relevant information without a notification overload is still not possible with existing technologies. Despite some promising efforts in push-based architectures to solve this problem, they fall short to meet the requirements in the big data era. In this study, by leveraging the latest advancements in distributed computing and big data analytics technologies, we use a focused crawling approach to propose a context aware notification architecture for people to find desired information at its most valuable state.

Evaluation of distributed complex event processing (CEP) systems is a rather challenging task. To simplify this task, we developed the open simulation framework for distributed CEP, called DCEP-Sim. The goal of this tutorial is to facilitate the process of using DCEP-Sim. Since DCEP-Sim is designed and implemented in the popular network simulator ns-3 we introduce the most important concepts of ns-3. Simulations in ns-3 are configured and executed though a main program called an ns-3 script. We use a simple example script to explain how simulations with DCEP-Sim are set up and executed. To give an idea how DCEP-Sim can be adjusted to particular needs, we explain how DCEP-Sim can be adapted (e.g., through changing the workload and the network topology) and how new distributed CEP solutions can be added by explaining how to add a new operator to DCEP-Sim.

The amount of data generated from sources on the Web has been increasing on a daily basis. Hence, it is time-consuming to follow all these sources to reach the latest information. The way people access information on the Web is usually pull-based, meaning that they query the Web over time to find the most recent blog posts, websites, news, and even weather reports. Accessing the right information at the right time is crucial for both people and businesses to be more productive and efficient. Moreover, the information that cannot be accessed at the right time may lose its value over time. Traditional pull-based methods for obtaining information may cause important knowledge to be overlooked or too late to be noticed. Technologies like RSS enable people to access information from websites through push-based notifications, but they cannot provide a proper solution for people who are being exposed to too much information at inappropriate times. Accordingly, a push-based context aware solution is needed for people who are in need of accessing the right information at the right time. Although some promising studies in the literature have tried to solve this problem, they appear to be insufficient to meet today's big data requirements. In this study, we propose a context aware notification framework based on distributed focused crawling, in order for people to get notifications on relevant information at the right time and location by leveraging the latest advancements in distributed computing and big data analytics technologies.
