Wilks' factorization of the matrix-variate Dirichlet-Riesz distributions

The Riesz distributions on positive definite symmetric matrices are used to introduce a class of Dirichlet-Riesz distributions. In addition, several distributional properties are stated. Essentially, we show the relationship between the Dirichlet-Riesz distributions of the first kind and the second kind, respectively. We derive Wilks' factorization of the matrix-variate Dirichlet-Riesz. Further, several results on the product of Riesz and beta-Riesz matrices with a set of Dirichlet-Riesz matrices of the first kind have been derived.

Grobner Bases for Lattices and an Algebraic Decoding algorithm

In this paper we present Grobner bases for lattices given in a general form, including integer and non-integer lattices. Grobner bases for binary linear codes were introduced by Borges-Quintana et al. [4]. We extend their work to non-binary group block codes. Then, given a lattice Lambda and its associated label code L, which is a group code, we define an ideal for L. A Grobner basis is assigned to Lambda as the Grobner basis of its label code L. Since the associated label code for integer and non-integer lattices are group codes, the assigned Grobner bases can be obtained for both cases. Using this Grobner basis an algebraic decoding algorithm is introduced. We provide an example of the decoding method for a lower dimension lattice. We explain that the complexity of this decoding method depends on the division algorithm and show this decoding method has polynomial time complexity. Experiments for some versions of root lattices (E-7 and E-8) show that for low SNR the performance of these lattices is near to the lower bounds given in [16].

Facet Model of Moving Targets for ISAR Imaging and Radar Back-Scattering Simulation

A facet model of targets is proposed to simulate inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) images and radar back-scattering of moving targets with rigid and nonrigid motions. Targets are composed of solid objects which are modeled by triangular facets. It is shown that a facet can be treated as an equivalent point-scatterer whose radar cross section (RCS) and position depend on the shape of the triangle, the frequency, and the angle of incidence. A shadowing algorithm is also developed to detect the facets which actually have influence on the signal received by the radar. Besides, a facet division algorithm is implemented to improve the result of the shadowing algorithm and to have at least one facet per resolution cell. Finally, we apply our simulator to obtain the ISAR images of a ship and a helicopter and to calculate the micro-Doppler signature of a human.

A new asynchronous pipeline scheme: Application to the design of a self-timed ring divider

This paper describes an efficient means of synchronizing and pipelining asynchronous circuits implemented using differential cascode voltage switch logic (DCVSL) [1] precharged function blocks, A modified version of this logic, called LDCVSL (latch differential cascode voltage switch logic),which is similar to the LCDL (latched CMOS differential logic [2]), or DCVSL with NORA-Latch [3], is used to improve the storage capability of the precharged function blocks, Improving the storage capability of the building blocks allows the design of an efficient pipeline scheme which is described in detail, Following a description of its potential performance, the pipeline scheme is applied to the design of self-timed rings, It is shown that more compact ring structures can be obtained without loss of performance. Our design methodology is then presented. It is based on the use of a private asynchronous standard cell library, fully compatible with an existing CMOS standard cell library provided by the foundry, Our approach allows the rapid design of standard cell based asynchronous circuits, Finally, both the pipeline scheme and design,approach are illustrated through the design of a 32-b self-timed ring divider, The division algorithm is first briefly presented. The chip architecture is then described with the results obtained after fabrication, The test chip has been fabricated using the CNET/SGS-Thomson 0.5 mu m three metal layer technology, The 0.7 mm(2) chip computes 32-b divisions in 101 ns with a power consumption of 30 mW at a throughput of 10 million operations per second.

We discuss controllability of systems that are initially given by boundary coupled PDEs of second order. These systems may be described by modules over particular rings of distributions and ultradistributions with compact support arising from the solution of the Cauchy problem of the PDE under consideration with data on the time axis. We show that those rings are Bezout domains. This property is utilized in order to derive algebraic and trajectory related controllability results.

Environmental assessment of optimized renewable energy-based microgrids integrated desalination plant: considering human health, ecosystem quality, climate change, and resources

Using hybrid renewable energy technology is an efficient method for greenhouse gas mitigation caused by fossil fuel combustion. However, these renewable microgrids are not free from environmental damages, especially during the lifetime of hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES). The main objective of this study is to assess the environmental impacts of three optimized HRES for the Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Desalination (SWROD) plant. An objective optimization was developed using the division algorithm, and the environmental impacts of the optimized HRES were investigated by the life cycle assessment approach. The results showed that producing 1 m(3) freshwater by an optimal size SWROD integrated with wind turbine/battery is responsible for 3.56E - 07 disability-adjusted life year (DALY). It is significantly less than 1 m(3) freshwater production by an optimal size SWROD integrated with solar PV/battery (5.88E - 07 DALY) and solar PV/wind turbine/battery (5.13E - 07 DALY) energy systems. Moreover, 1 m(3) freshwater by a SWROD integrated with proposed microgrids in this study led to a damage of 0.089 to 0.193 potentially disappeared fraction of species (PDF)*m2*yr to ecosystem quality. It also results in an emission of 0.143 to 0.339 kg CO2 eq per 1 m(3) freshwater. Furthermore, resources for 1 m(3) freshwater production by a SWROD are calculated at 2.77 to 4.806 MJ primary. Freshwater production by an optimal size SWROD integrated with solar wind/battery compared with solar PV/battery and solar PV/wind turbine/battery had less damage to ecosystem quality, climate, and resources. The results showed reductions of 91.23% in human health, 73.51% in an ecosystem quality, 92.43% in climate change, and 90.08% in resources for producing 1 m(3) of freshwater using SWROD integrated with wind turbine/battery bank compared to fossil-based desalination. Some new properties of the Riesz probability distribution

The Riesz probability distribution on any symmetric cone and, in particular, on the cone of positive definite symmetric matrices represents an important generalization of the Wishart and of the matrix gamma distributions containing them as particular examples. The present paper is a continuation of the investigation of the properties of this probability distribution. We first establish a property of invariance of this probability distributions by a subgroup of the orthogonal group. We then show that the Pierce components of a Riesz random variable are independent, and we determine their probability distributions. Some moments and some useful expectations related to the Riesz probability distribution are also calculated. Copyright (C) 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

This article presents a new multiplication algorithm based on the Collatz function. Assuming the validity of the Collatz conjecture, the time complexity of multiplying two n-digit numbers is O(kn), where the k is the number of odd steps in the Collatz trajectory of the first multiplicand. Most likely, the algorithm is only of theoretical interest.

Improved Visual Secret Sharing Scheme for QR Code Applications

Quick response (QR) codes have been widely used in applications, such as data storage and high-speed machine reading. Anyone can gain access to the information stored in QR codes;therefore, they are unsuitable for encoding secret information without the addition of cryptography or other protection. In this paper, we propose a visual secret sharing scheme to encode a secret QR code into several shares. In contrast with other techniques, the shares in our scheme are valid QR codes that can be decoded with some specific meaning by a standard QR code reader, thereby avoiding raising suspicion in potential attackers. Moreover, the secret message is recovered by XOR-ing the qualified shares, an operation that can easily be performed using smartphones or other QR scanning devices. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is both feasible and reasonably secure. Our scheme's high sharing efficiency is also highlighted in this paper.

A characterization of the Riesz probability distribution

Bobecka and Wesolowski (Studia Math. 152:147-160, [2002]) have shown that, in the Olkin and Rubin characterization of the Wishart distribution (see Casalis and Letac in Ann. Stat. 24:763-786, [1996]), when we use the division algorithm defined by the quadratic representation and replace the property of invariance by the existence of twice differentiable densities, we still have a characterization of the Wishart distribution. In the present work, we show that when we use the division algorithm defined by the Cholesky decomposition, we get a characterization of the Riesz distribution.
