Reasonably dividing restoration subsystems is an essential step for speeding up the restoration procedure with the widely employed bottom-up restoration strategy. A new method based on the community structure of the complex network theory is presented for dividing restoration subsystems in this work. The locations of black-start units and the characteristics of power systems are taken into account in the developed method. The restoration subsystems are determined by removing the lines with the maximal 'betweenness' repeatedly, and the rationality of the division results is evaluated by using a modularity index. An interconnection strategy for the restoration subsystems thus obtained is proposed by following the sequence that each restoration subsystem is separated from the power network concerned in the divisive process. The essential features of the proposed method are illustrated by case studies of the well-known New England test system and the Guangzhou actual power system in China.

A new division algorithm over GF(2(m)) is presented. The serial-in, parallel-out structure is independent of the defining polynomial of the field, and uses operands represented in canonical basis. Because of its regularity and simplified control structure, the resulting divider is hardware efficient and suitable for VLSI implementation.

Using division algorithm and basic notions of convergence of sequences in real-line, we prove that a real number theta is irrational if and only if there is an eventually nonconstant sequence {pn theta +qn} converging to 0, where pn and qn are integers for each natural number n. This approach leads to alternative proofs of weaker versions of the classical Dirichlet and Kronecker approximation theorems in number theory.

A NOVEL division algorithm FOR THE RESIDUE NUMBER SYSTEM

We present in this paper a novel general algorithm for signed number division in Residue Number Systems (RNS). A parity checking technique is used to accomplish the sign and overflow detection in this algorithm. Compared with conventional methods of sign and overflow detection, the parity checking method is more efficient and practical. Sign magnitude arithmetic division is implemented using binary search. There is no restriction to the dividend and the divisor (except zero divisor), and no quotient estimation is necessary before the division is executed. Only simple operations are needed to accomplish this RNS division. All these characteristics have made our algorithm simple, efficient, and practical to be implemented on a real RNS divider.

RCS PREDICTION ACCELERATION AND REDUCTION OF TABLE SIZE FOR THE ANGULAR division algorithm

The method of shooting and bouncing rays has been successfully used to predict the radar cross section (RCS) of electrically large and complex target models. However, this method has a demerit that its prediction time is very long when targets are electrically large and complex. Therefore, we propose the hybrid angular division algorithm (HADA) that accelerates prediction of RCS for electrically large and complex target models. This method improves the angular division algorithm (ADA), by incorporating a more efficient way of dealing with patches on planes that meet at angles between (90 - alpha)degrees and (90 + alpha)degrees, where a is the so-called 'critical angle'. A critical angle delimits a range of angles in which the effects of double reflections between patches are dominant. We perform ADA for a patch-pair which satisfies the condition of critical angles. We used the proposed algorithm to calculate the RCS of a model battleship;compared to ADA, HADA reduces prediction time by >= 30% without loss of accuracy.

A simple least-squares design of M-D IIR filters with fixed separable denominator based on multivariate division algorithm

In this paper, we propose a simple algorithmic solution to the best approximation problem of finding the nearest multivariate rational function, with a fixed separable denominator polynomial, from a given multivariate polynomial, where the numerator polynomial is desired to minimize the integral of the squared error over the distinguished boundary of the unit polydisc. The proposed algorithm does not require any numerical integration or numerical root finding technique because this is realized based on the standard multivariate division algorithm. A simple observation of the proposed algorithm leads to an ideal membership problem characterizing the solution to the problem. A relation of this characterization and a multivariate generalization of the Walsh's Theorem is also discussed with another ideal membership problem derived by applying a corollary of the Hilbert Nullstellensatz to the Walsh's Theorem. Although the discussion to derive the latter ideal membership problem seems to be roundabout, such a characterization would be useful for further generalization, for example to some weighted least-squares approximation. Numerical examples demonstrate the practical applicability of the proposed method to design problems of multidimensional IIR filters.

Design and implementation of division algorithm is one of the most complicated problems in multi-precision arithmetic. Huang et al. [1] proposed an efficient multi-precision integer division algorithm, and experimentally showed that it is about three times faster than the most popular algorithms proposed by Knuth [2] and Smith [3]. This paper reports a bug in the algorithm of Huang et al. [1], and suggests the necessary corrections. The theoretical correctness proof of the proposed algorithm is also given. We propose an efficient algorithm to calculate the radar cross section of electrically large and complex targets using a shooting and bouncing rays method. The proposed method, which is based on an angular division algorithm, reduces the number of initial rays and operations for each intersection test, and accelerates the ray tracing without loss of accuracy. Numerical results show the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

Modeling, design, and optimization of a cost-effective and reliable hybrid renewable energy system integrated with desalination using the division algorithm

People in the Middle East are facing the problem of freshwater shortages. This problem is more intense for a remote region, which has no access to the power grid. The use of seawater desalination technology integrated with the generated energy unit by renewable energy sources could help overcome this problem. In this study, we refer a seawater reverse osmosis desalination (SWROD) plant with a capacity of 1.5 m(3)/h used on Larak Island, Iran. Moreover, for producing fresh water and meet the load demand of the SWROD plant, three different stand-alone hybrid renewable energy systems (SAHRES), namely wind turbine (WT)/photovoltaic (PV)/battery bank storage (BBS), PV/BBS, and WT/BBS are modeled and investigated. The optimization problem was coded in MATLAB software. Furthermore, the optimized results were obtained by the division algorithm (DA). The DA has been developed to solve the sizing problem of three SAHRES configurations by considering the object function's constraints. These results show that this improved algorithm has been simpler, more precise, faster, and more flexible than a genetic algorithm (GA) in solving problems. Moreover, the minimum total life cycle cost (TLCC = 243 763$), with minimum loss of power supply probability (LPSP = 0%) and maximum reliability, was related to the WT/PV/BBS configuration. WT/PV/BBS is also the best configuration to use less battery as a backup unit (69 units). The batteries in this configuration have a longer life cycle (maximum average of annual battery charge level) than two other configurations (93.86%). Moreover, the optimized results have shown that utilizing the configuration of WT/PV/BBS could lead to attaining a cost-effective and green (without environmental pollution) SAHRES, with high reliability for remote areas, with appropriate potential of wind and solar irradiance.
