The attacks on the users by exploiting the vulnerabilities of the browsers have increased at an alarming rate. The existing attack prevention strategies have failed miserably in most of the situations. Moreover, users have also not taken much care of configuring their browsers securely, using available extensions and plug-ins. This proposal puts forward an advanced XSS prevention technique by introducing a new scoring system for privilege levels and vulnerability levels of the contents rendered in the browser. The java scripts rendered in the browsers are stored, classified, and analyzed using machine learning algorithms. Machine learning can also be used to predict the browser quirks and generate an attacker pattern. The security mechanisms are also implemented inside the document object model (DOM) to check the execution of dynamic scripts.

Nowadays, hand-held devices are being used more and more, especially for web navigation. But the small screen size of these devices requires adapting web page contents to be browsed more conveniently. A fundamental step in a successful automatic adaptation process of a web page is perception its visual layout and mining its document object model (DOM) structure. In this paper, we present a new web-adapted supervised segmentation algorithm dedicated to vibro-tactile access on touch-screen devices. This suggested algorithm is fundamental in our framework whose aim is enhancing the ability of Visually Impaired Persons (VIP) to understand the 2-dimension web page layout by converting web pages into vibrating pages using a graphical vibro-tactile language. A comparison between automatic and manual segmented pages is presented. The objectives of this comparison are, on the one hand, to know how users understand web page layout structure based on their visual perception, and on the other hand, to explore the main differences between automatic and manual segmentation. Many WWW applications generate hypertext markup language or extensible markup language (XML) documents dynamically. Current tools, however, like languages using document object model (DOM) or JAVA Server Pages do not allow to check the validity of the generated documents statically. Instead, validity has to be 'checked' dynamically by appropriate test runs. This paper addresses this problem by introducing a new distinct class for each element type of a document type definition (DTD). Each class extends the Element-class of the DOM. The resulting object model is called validating DOM (V-DOM). Parametric XML (P-XML) is an extension of XML allowing to insert values of the newly defined classes in places, where the corresponding element types are allowed according to the underlying DTD. Like V-DOM, P-XML guarantees the validity of all XML documents generated by using P-XML. V-DOM and P-XML are illustrated by several examples. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

In today's world, World Wide Web is the most popular information providers. A website is a collection of web pages and Web pages usually include information for the users. The web sites are designed with common templates and content. The template is used to access the content easily by consistent structures even the templates are not explicitly announced. The current Template extraction techniques are degrading the performance of web applications such as search engine due to irrelevant terms in templates. Hence, we present a new method for detecting and extracting templates from web pages automatically by identifying the relevant information.

Technical development of PubMed interact: An improved interface for MEDLINE/PubMed searches

Background: The project aims to create an alternative search interface for MEDLINE/PubMed that may provide assistance to the novice user and added convenience to the advanced user. An earlier version of the project was the 'Slider Interface for MEDLINE/PubMed searches' (SLIM) which provided JavaScript slider bars to control search parameters. In this new version, recent developments in Web-based technologies were implemented. These changes may prove to be even more valuable in enhancing user interactivity through client-side manipulation and management of results. Results: PubMed Interact is a Web-based MEDLINE/PubMed search application built with HTML, JavaScript and PHP. It is implemented on a Windows Server 2003 with Apache 2.0.52, PHP 4.4.1 and MySQL 4.1.18. PHP scripts provide the backend engine that connects with E-Utilities and parses XML files. JavaScript manages client-side functionalities and converts Web pages into interactive platforms using dynamic HTML (DHTML), document object model (DOM) tree manipulation and Ajax methods. With PubMed Interact, users can limit searches with JavaScript slider bars, preview result counts, delete citations from the list, display and add related articles and create relevance lists. Many interactive features occur at client-side, which allow instant feedback without reloading or refreshing the page resulting in a more efficient user experience. Conclusion: PubMed Interact is a highly interactive Web-based search application for MEDLINE/PubMed that explores recent trends in Web technologies like DOM tree manipulation and Ajax. It may become a valuable technical development for online medical search applications. © 2006 Muin and Fontelo;licensee BioMed Central Ltd.

At its core, the document object model (DOM) defines a tree-like data structure for representing documents in general and HTML documents in particular. It is the heart of any modern web browser. Formalizing the key concepts of the DOM is a prerequisite for the formal reasoning over client-side JavaScript programs and for the analysis of security concepts in modern web browsers. We present a formalization of the core DOM, with focus on the node-tree and the operations defined on node-trees, in Isabelle/HOL. We use the formalization to verify the functional correctness of the most important functions defined in the DOM standard. Moreover, our formalization is (1) extensible, i.e., can be extended without the need of re-proving already proven properties and (2) executable, i.e., we can generate executable code from our specification.

XML is a widely adopted technology in various domains ranging from web services to messaging systems, databases grid and scientific computing. However the processing of XML documents is an expensive operation that can degrade performance and limits the adoption of XML for specific applications. As different applications incorporating XML have come to the fore it becomes imperative to conduct a comprehensive study of the issues involved in design of parser. Hence optimizing parser performance has become a research hotspot. This paper focuses on a detailed study of the optimization parameters and design and implementation of a novel parser NXParse while optimizing for character streams, in-place parsing, string transformation control-flow, data structures and recurrent structures. Our empirical analysis shows that the NXParse gives a better parsing performance.

Web services like conceptual search, i.e., search based on meaning rather than just character strings, has been the motivation of a large body of research in the IR field. The limits of information search engines called full-text depend mainly on the indexing process. Most approaches use free lexical tokens to annotate a given document, more, the selection of these entities is based on statistical and probability approaches such as the Vector Space model (VSM) and the Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). Although, some ones conclude acceptable results, the incidence of noise and silence affect severely the pertinence of returned results. The indexing process produce at the end set of independents terms (bag of words), without any semantic relationship. Our work proposes an approach to perform semantic annotation. We will use domain ontology to generate a set of structured meta data represented by a conceptual graph. It is a powerful formalism for representing rich ontological knowledge and allowing agents to reason about then through intelligent programs.

Authors of this article were looking for a lightweight, document object model (DOM) like Java source code generator too] in their ongoing metaprogramming project called MOFCOM. After enumerating several code generator solutions currently available, it has been found that these do not fit the identified requirements: DOM based solutions are heavyweight, lightweight solutions are neither DOM like nor follow the semantic model of the Java language. The lack of a proper tool necessitated the establishment of Javagen, a small yet efficient solution. Javagen is a run-time library written in Java, which runs entirely within the application program. It provides an API that allows the application to create a formal model of a Java program by instantiating a metamodel of the Java language, to operate on this model, e. g. by adding methods, attributes to the classes, interfaces, and to generate Java source files based on the created model.
