Traditional data warehouses are unable to meet the growing needs of the modern enterprise to integrate and analyze a wide variety of data generated by social, mobile and sensor sources. What is remarkable is that many companies have changed their data storage in NoSQL databases. Given the important role played by this type of databases, it is necessary to study NoSQL databases as a data source for the modeling and the implementation of data warehouses. This paper proposes a method to design the data warehouse schema from schema free databases known as NoSQL databases. Our proposal starts with the extraction of schemes from document-oriented databases as an example of NoSQL database. This extraction is performed based on the MapReduce paradigm. Then, it defines the structure identification graph from the extracted schemes. This graph will help the designer to identify the multidimensional concepts for each schema extracted in order to design the global data warehouse schema. (C) 2019 The Authors. Big data is emerging as one of the most important crucial issues in the modern world. Most studies mention that a relational database cannot handle big data. This challenge has led to the presentation of the not only structured query language (NoSQL) database as a new concept of database technology. NoSQL supports large volumes of data by providing a mechanism for data storage, retrieval and more flexible than a relational database. One of the most powerful types of NoSQL database is the document-oriented database. Recently, many software developers are willing to migrate from using relational databases to NoSQL database because of scalability, availability, and performance. The document-oriented database has challenged as to how to obtain an appropriate schema for the document-oriented database. The existing approach to migrate a relational database to a document-oriented database does not consider all the properties of the former, especially on how to handle various types of relationships. This research proposed a flexible schema for a document-oriented database (SDOD). This study evaluated the development of agility based on the schema of a document-oriented database and query execution time. The evaluation verifies the reliability of the proposed schema.

Relational databases remain the leading data storage technology. Nevertheless, many companies want to reduce operating expenses, to make scalable applications that use cloud computing technologies. Use of NoSQL database is one of the possible solutions, and it is forecasted that the NoSQL market will be growing at a CAGR of approximately 50 percent over the next five years. The paper offers a solution for quick data migration from a relational database into a document-oriented database. We have created semiautomatically two logical levels over physical data. Users can refine generated logical data model and configure data migration template for each needed document. Data migration features are implemented into relational database browser DigiBrowser. Real patients' database was migrated to Clasterpoint database. The offered approach provides means to obtain at least proof-of-concept for new document-oriented database solution in a couple of days.

The exponential growth in data volume has presented significant challenges in storing and analyzing big data. Relational databases, traditionally used for data management, have struggled to meet the demands of big data, particularly in terms of velocity and variety. This limitation hinders scalability as data volume increases. In contrast, NoSQL databases offer flexible schemas that cater to the requirements of big data. To overcome the inefficiencies of relational databases and leverage the benefits of NoSQL, this paper proposes an algorithm for migrating from a relational database to a document-oriented database. The study also applies transformation rules to a case study, evaluating the performance of migration time across various database properties. The results demonstrate that the proposed migration method successfully handles migration time and encompasses all relevant database properties. © 2023 IEEE.

NagareDB: A Resource-Efficient document-oriented Time-Series database

The recent great technological advance has led to a broad proliferation of Monitoring Infrastructures, which typically keep track of specific assets along time, ranging from factory machinery, device location, or even people. Gathering this data has become crucial for a wide number of applications, like exploration dashboards or Machine Learning techniques, such as Anomaly Detection. Time-Series databases, designed to handle these data, grew in popularity, becoming the fastest-growing database type from 2019. In consequence, keeping track and mastering those rapidly evolving technologies became increasingly difficult. This paper introduces the holistic design approach followed for building NagareDB, a Time-Series database built on top of MongoDB-the most popular NoSQL database, typically discouraged in the Time-Series scenario. The goal of NagareDB is to ease the access to three of the essential resources needed to building time-dependent systems: Hardware, since it is able to work in commodity machines;Software, as it is built on top of an open-source solution;and Expert Personnel, as its foundation database is considered the most popular NoSQL DB, lowering its learning curve. Concretely, NagareDB is able to outperform MongoDB recommended implementation up to 4.7 times, when retrieving data, while also offering a stream-ingestion up to 35% faster than InfluxDB, the most popular Time-Series database. Moreover, by relaxing some requirements, NagareDB is able to reduce the disk space usage up to 40%.

In the past few years, several cloud services such as IBM cloud services, Microsoft service, Amazon web services as well as Google cloud platform services related databases are rising rapidly all over the world. In the case of a Relational database, it is easy to handle only a small amount of data. So to overcome the shortcomings, this paper proposes a Hospital Management System (HMS) using Mongo DB as a database. The Mongo DB is the classification of a document-related database that comes under the category of NoSQL database which is referred to as a non-relational database. Mongo DB aims in reducing the gap among two different types of scalable key-value databases such as fast and high scalable key-value databases. Also, this database reduces the time delay during the working of four operational modes such as selection, insertion, deletion, and updation. Furthermore, the Enhanced Entity-Relationship Model (EERM) for the HMS that is designed to manage the entire section of the hospital which includes the reception section, casualty section, details regarding the medical treatment, and employees. The HMS stores three million tuple entities and is loaded into the Mongo DB database. Also, the operation based on selection, insertion, deletion, and updation mode is evaluated. Therefore, the experimental analysis reveals that the proposed HMS using Mongo DB provides is highly efficient with less time delay, thus obtaining an effective system.

The design of optimal geospatial NoSQL databases is complex and depends on application requirements and query patterns. This paper presents a top-down methodology for IoT applications, starting with data-related requirements defined using a UML class diagram and expected queries. Subsequently, a set of rules is applied to create a geospatial NoSQL database model. With the rapid growth of cloud computing, efficient management of multi-tenant databases has become a vital challenge for cloud service providers. It is particularly important for Alibaba, which hosts a distributed multi-tenant database supporting one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms. It serves tens of millions of sellers as tenants, and supports transactions from hundreds of millions of buyers. The inherent imbalance of shopping preferences from the buyers essentially generates a drastically skewed workload on the database, which could create unpredictable hotspots and consequently large throughput decline and latency increase. In this paper, we present the architecture and implementation of ESDB (ElasticSearch database), a cloud-native document-oriented database which has been running on Alibaba Cloud for 5 years as the main transaction database behind Alibaba's e-commerce platform. ESDB provides strong full-text search and retrieval capability, and proposes dynamic secondary hashing as the solution for processing extremely skewed workloads. We evaluate ESDB with both simulated workloads and real-world workloads, and demonstrate that ESDB significantly enhances write throughput and reduces the completion time of writes without sacrificing query throughput.

New business applications require flexibility in data model structure and must support the next generation of web applications and handle complex data types. The performance of processing structured data through a relational database has become incompatible with big data challenges. Nowadays, there is a need to deal with semi-structured data with a flexible schema for different applications. Not only SQL (NoSQL) has been presented to overcome the limitations of relational databases in terms of scale, performance, data model, and distribution system. Also, NoSQL supports semi-structured data and can handle a huge amount of data and provide flexibility in the data schema. But the data models of NoSQL systems are very complex, as there are no tools available to represent a scheme for NoSQL databases. In addition, there is no standard schema for data modelling of document-oriented databases. This study proposes a semi-structured data model for big data (SS-DMBD) that is compatible with a document-oriented database, and also proposes an algorithm for mapping the entity relationship (ER) model to SS-DMBD. A case study is used to evaluate the SS-DMBD and its features. The results show that this model can address most features of semi- structured data.
