We study an infinite horizon optimal control problem for a system with two state variables. One of them has the evolution governed by a controlled ordinary differential equation and the other one is related to the latter by a hysteresis relation, represented here by either a play operator or a Prandtl-Ishlinskii operator. By dynamic programming, we derive the corresponding (discontinuous) first order Hamilton-Jacobi equation, which in the first case is of finite dimension and in the second case is of infinite dimension. In both cases we prove that the value function is the only bounded uniformly continuous viscosity solution of the equation.

Optimization analysis of waste heat recovery district cooling system on a remote island: Case study Green Island

The power supply of a remote island is mainly from the diesel generator due to nature and environmental constraints for developing renewable electrical power generation. Recovering waste heat from diesel generators can reduce cost and satisfy the concurrent need for electricity, district heating or cooling on a remote island. This study investigates the optimization design of a district cooling system (DCS) on a remote island by the dynamic programming method. In a case study on Green Island, the waste heat from the diesel power plant can be recovered to drive an absorption chiller that satisfies the peak cooling load of 756 kW. The objective function of the optimization design includes the capital cost and the running cost during the period of the life cycle. The dynamic programming method is adopted to minimize the objective function, and the constraint involves the conservation of energy between the chiller and the chilled water storage tank. The results showed that a 510 kW absorption chiller and a storage tank capacity of 1978 kW-h achieved the optimization of the DCS. The averaged energy conservation rate was about 75.7%. Moreover, the electricity consumption and CO2 emission were reduced by 955.8 MWh and 675 tons per year, respectively. Based on the difference in the electricity prices of electric utility companies, the investment in the DCS is expected to have a four-year payback period. These optimization results are based on an evaluation of energetic, economic and environmental effects, which are also suitable for any kind of regions without direct access to interconnected electrical networks.

This paper presents scheduling models for dispatching vehicles to accomplish a sequence of container jobs at the container terminal, in which the starting times as well as the order of vehicles for carrying out these jobs need to be determined. To deal with this scheduling problem, three mixed 0 - 1 integer programming models, Model I, Model II and Model III are provided. We present interesting techniques to reformulate the two mixed integer programming models, Model I and Model II, as pure 0-1 integer programming problems with simple constraint sets and present a lower bound for the optimal value of Model I. Model III is a complicated mixed integer programming model because it involves a set of non-smooth constraints, but it can be proved that its solutions may be obtained by the so-called greedy algorithm. We present numerical results showing that Model III is the best among these three models and the greedy algorithm is capable of solving large scale problems.

In this paper, we investigate an optimal consumption/portfolio problem of an agent with voluntary retirement and subsistence consumption constraints before retirement. We assume that the agent's utility function of consumption is of CRRA type and the agent suffers a utility loss from labor before retirement. During the operation of buses, operating conditions may change, and the original uniform departure interval cannot meet the system requirements. These factors may lead to problems such as the reduction of the average passenger load factor and the increase of passenger waiting time. This paper mainly studies the optimization of bus dispatching systems and uses the dynamic programming method in the principle of operations research, assuming that road conditions and passenger flow conditions affect the instability parameters of the dispatching system. On the basis of ensuring low operating costs, the bus operation process is transformed into a multi-stage decision-making optimization problem to find the optimal strategy to satisfy the passengers' travel demand. The inverse recursive method is used to solve this problem and the result shows that the average waiting time is reduced by 6 min, and the bus full load rate is increased to 95.26%.

A new kind of fuzzy adaptive method is proposed to transfer the multi-objective function to single objective function under the same constraint conditions. Based on multiple dynamic programming models, an improved dynamic programming method with different step-length to the solution for an optimal distribution of generators in an electrical power plant has been developed. This method overcomes the problem that due to improper selection of searching step-length. The experimental results show that the dynamic programming method based on fuzzy adaptive theory has a good energy-saving effect and engineering application value.

With the development of Space Technology, the demand to Space Surveillance System is more urgent than before. The paper studies the dim and small target of long range. Firstly, it describes the research status of dim and small target abroad and the two detection principle of DBT and TBD. Secondly, it focuses on the higher-order correlation method, dynamic programming method and projection transformation method of TBD. Finally, it studies the image sequence simulation of different signal to noise ratio (SNR) with the real-time data from the aircraft in orbit. The image sequence is used to experimental verification. The test results show the dim and small target detection capability and applicable occasion of different methods. At the same time, it provides a new idea to the development of long-distance optical detector.

Mathematical model for service quality assess in a contact center is suggested. The priority of the data (calls, requests) is expressed through the values of allowable waiting time of data in a queue. The problem is formulated with the minimax criterion to find the optimal matrix of agents distribution between data (calls) streams with various priority. The agents possess different performance. The optimal matrix provides minimum service loss possible. Algorithms for problem solving by dynamic programming method, branch and bound method and Hungarian method of assignments are offered. Computational programs set for implementation of agents groups algorithms formation in the system of automatic calls distribution is developed.

The electromagnetism environment monitors satellite (EEMS) is a kind of earth observing satellite. EEMS is an important means to gain electronic intelligence of space, and has a special effect on prompt command. The problem of mission planning for EEMS is a serious problem involving a lot of complex constraints. Based on analyzing the principle of EEMS, this paper puts forward the essential hypotheses of the problem and gives a basic pretreatment method firstly, and then establishes the constraints satisfaction problem (CSP) models for the problem. Secondly, a heuristic tabu search algorithm(HTS) is designed for the mission planning for EEMS. At last, the paper utilizes HTS and dynamic programming method to solve the problems with different scales respectively. The results show that the problem of mission planning for EEMS can be solved effectively with this method.

An improved slime Mould Algorithm is proposed to solve the problem of optimal path planning for unmanned equipment in fire rescue. By introducing mutation mechanism and dynamic weight coefficient, the problems of slow convergence and low optimization precision of standard SMA algorithm are solved, and the reinforcement learning method is introduced to traverse the whole situation and search for the next optimal solution, in each iteration, slime mould algorithm is used for a local optimization to improve the quality of the solution. The simulation results show that the improved SMA algorithm has high precision and fast convergence speed, which is better than the genetic algorithm and another heuristic under the same conditions At the same time, the improved SMA algorithm is applied to the optimization of fire rescue route, which can effectively plan the rescue route and improve the rescue efficiency.
