AI Empowered Communication Systems for Intelligent Transportation Systems

Intelligent control of traffic has significant influence on the scheduling efficiency of urban traffic flow. Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency of vehicles at intersections, first, the Back Propagation (BP) neural network is used to propose a vehicle passing model at the intersection, and based on the intelligent traffic control system model, the Earliest Deadline First (edf) dynamic scheduling algorithm is used to improve the Controller Area Network (CAN) communication network. Finally, the simulation test is used to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model and the improved CAN bus communication network. The results show that the neural network model can be used to predict the passage time of vehicles queuing at intersections with an error of less than 10%. The improved CAN bus communication can improve the data transmission rate, and the success rate of data transmission under different load rates is above 95%. In conclusion, the application of artificial intelligence technology in intelligent traffic system can improve the efficiency of vehicle scheduling and the efficiency of communication system. This research is of great significance to improve the communication performance of the transportation system and scheduling efficiency.

This paper presents a method to support real-time data communication over switched Ethernet. The work without modifications in the Ethernet hardware and coexists with TCP/IP suites. Experiment results shows that compared with conventional real-time network protocol, the proposed work has better real-time performances and meets the requirements for industrial control network real-time applications.

This paper improves the traditional real-time scheduling algorithms----RM and edf algorithm, proposing a new fuzzy feedback control real-time schedule algorithm, which needn't accurate scheduling model. The algorithm can self-adjust parameters during scheduling. And simulation experiments illustrate that fuzzy feedback control real-time scheduling algorithm can prevent periodic tasks from starvation, a problem when using RM algorithm, and decrease miss ratio and increase guarantee ratio of edf algorithm.

In recent years, Cloud computing has become very popular from individuals to big enterprises because of the reduced cost, minimal management effort etc. Cloud providers like Amazon, Google are now offering resources for web deployment, storage, servers etc. However, due to the varying load and cost, evaluating the performance of task scheduling policies in these real Cloud environments is very challenging. In this paper, the performance of Earliest Deadline First (edf) scheduling policy has been investigated using CloudSim and the hardware configuration of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) with the time-out of a web and FTP servers. In addition, a comparison between space-shared and time-shared task provisioning policies have been examined which shows that the average execution time can be minimised by using space-shared policy in both AWS and GCP.

Networked Control System is the focus of current research in control field, and the use of a shared network introduces new challenges, therefore, it is significant to research scheduling algorithms for improving the control and schedule performance of NCS. In the paper, according to the challenges existing in scheduling algorithms, a new scheduling algorithm called Switch scheduling is proposed, and the calculation method of switching conditions is also given. In the proposed algorithm, network-induced delay and network utilization are considered to satisfy the different network condition with appropriate scheduling algorithm. The proposed algorithm improves the network utilization and the efficiency of data transmission, and guarantees the system stability. Finally, a simulation example is conducted to validate the feasibility and superiority of the proposed switch scheduling.

The paper presents an initiative-backup fault-tolerant real-time scheduling algorithm for distributed systems. In the scheduling, processor's local scheduling algorithm is edf and the fault-tolerance's technique is primary/backup copies. The execution time of the primary/backup copies may be overlapped. The schedule-ability of task set is analyzed and the method of calculating the minimal number of processor is given. The simulation compares the initiative-backup algorithm with the passive-backup algorithm, the result shows that the initiative-backup algorithm is more effective than the passive-backup algorithm.

Nowadays, the problems are becoming more complicated due to the development of fields related to science and engineering. Cloud computing plays a major role to figure out these complicated problems. Cloud computing is generally categorized into computation intensive and storage intensive model. Cloud collects congregate myriad number of requests from the user (i.e. treated as batch jobs). Hence, scheduling algorithm plays a major role for effectively scheduling of the jobs to the underlying resources scattered in and around the universe. The resources are linked through high speed network. This paper posits Minimum Variation First algorithm (MVF) for effective scheduling of batch jobs. The difference between the expected execution time on the job and its corresponding deadline is recognized as a necessary parameter for allocating the resource for a job. The involvement of this paper is considered as twofold. First, the deadline based jobs are scheduled using the proposed MVF algorithm that will schedule with uniform and non-uniform deadline based jobs. Second, the jobs are scheduled using improved MVF (iMVF) algorithm for avoiding starvation. The experimental results show the performance of these algorithms (MVF and iMVF algorithm) is better compared to other algorithms using CloudSim.

In precise real-time systems, scheduling algorithms without considerable complexity are more effective to be applied. Virtual release advancing [3] for shorter response times is a technique that is valuable for the Earliest Deadline First (edf) scheduling, but not adaptive to precise systems due to its high time complexity. A new scheduling algorithm, called enhanced virtual release advancing, that mitigates the time complexity, is presented in this paper. Applied in the Total Bandwidth Server (TBS) context, the new algorithm significantly improves the time complexity while guaranteeing the responsiveness and schedulability. Simulation results show that the runtime overhead is approximately 56% lower than that of the original algorithm under the periodic processor utilization of 95%.

This paper addresses a number of mathematical issues related to multiprocessor global edf platforms. We present a deadline-d all busy period and backward interference which are important concepts for multiprocessor edf systems, and some general schedulability conditions for any studied job are proposed. We formally prove that at most m-1 different tasks' jobs could contribute their execution time to an interval starting with a Pbasy-d, and we propose an approach for computing an exact upper bound of the total deadline-d task load in a given interval. Therefore, the proposed results are important foundations for constructing exact schedulability analyses of global edf scheduling systems.

This paper presents a simple and efficient switched Ethernet communication protocol for industrial hard real-time LAN applications. The network is set up with end nodes and a switch, in small-size industrial network covering such as factory automation, distributed control systems and embedded systems. Compared to some conventional hard real-time network protocols by performing some experiments, the proposed protocol has better real-time performances and meets the requirements of reliability for hard real-time system applications.
