Power and area-efficient register designs involving eho algorithm

Purpose This paper aims to design three low-power and area-efficient serial input parallel output (SIPO) register designs, namely, transistor count reduction technique shift register (TCRSR), series stacking in TCR shift register (S-TCRSR) and forced stacking of transistor in TCR shift register (FST in TCRSR). Shift registers (SR) are the basic building blocks of all types of digital applications. The performance of all the designs has been improved through one of the metaheuristic algorithms named elephant herding optimization (eho) algorithm and hence suited for low-power very large scale integration (VLSI) applications. It is for the first time that the eho algorithm is implemented in memory elements. Design/methodology/approach The registers together with clock network consume 18-36 percentage of the total power consumption of a microprocessor. The proposed designs are implemented using low-power and high-performance double edge-triggered D flip-flops with least count of clocked transistors involving transmission gate. The second and third register designs are developed from the modified version of the first one employing series and forced stacking, thereby reducing static power because of sub-threshold leakage current. The performance parameters such as power-delay-product (PDP) and leakage power are further optimized using the eho algorithm. A greater reduction in power is achieved in all the designs by utilizing the eho algorithm. Findings All the designs are simulated at a supply voltage of 1 V/500 MHz when the input switching activity is 25 percentage in Cadence Virtuoso using 45 nm CMOS technology. Nine recently proposed SR designs are simulated in the same conditions, and the performance has been compared with the proposed ones. The simulated results prove the excellence of proposed designs in different performance parameters like leakage power, energy-delay-product (EDP), PDP, layout area compared with the recent designs. Critical Analysis of Optimization Techniques for a MRPID Thermal System Controller

In this paper, critical analysis of performance comparison of various optimization techniques for a MRPID (Multi Resolution Proportional Integral Derivative) thermal system controller is presented. This controller controls the uncertainty or mismatch between real and reference temperature. Wavelet coefficients of error between the two temperatures and their corresponding gains are added to produce a control signal for the thermal system. The main purpose of the proposed method is to optimize the tuning parameters of a wavelet-based MRPID controller to regulate the switching pulse of the thermal system. Modeling and simulations are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink@2015. Figures-of-merit such as disturbance rejection, system stability and transient response are also compared using various techniques like Particle swarm optimization (PSO)-MRPID, Genetic algorithm (GA)-MRPID (existing techniques), Firefly-MRPID controllers and Elephant herding optimization (eho) based Recurrent neural network (RNN)-MRPID algorithm. Firefly-MRPID and eho with RNN-based MRPID are proposed for determining unique (best) operating conditions of the thermal system in this paper.

With rising concern on environmental protection, the exploitation of EV has been widely focused. The IM is said to be the best in comparing varied electric motors for EV applications due to its lower price and robustness. In addition, sensor -less controlling schemes like DTC and FOC are found to be appropriate for crucial appliances owing to their energy savings, improved efficiency, and reliability. The " Optimized Fractional Order Proportional Integral Controller (FoPID) " with a sensor -less speed estimate mechanism is proposed in this work. Additionally, the parameters of FoPID are adjusted using a brand-new hybrid method called the Wolf based Elephant Herding method (W-EHA), which combines the ideas of Grey wolf optimization (GWO) model and Elephant herding optimization (eho). The superiority of the recommended technique is finally shown in terms of controller performance and error. The RMSE obtained by the developed model at speed = 100 is 3.344, which is 53.89 %, 24.22 %, 1.09 %, and 38.96 % superior to existing approaches like P-controller, MFI-DA + FoPID, eho-FoPID, and GWO-FoPID respectively.

An active model for ranging by deep convolutional neural network and elephant herding optimization algorithm (DCNN-ehoA) in WSNs

Purpose In modern technology, the wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are generally most promising solutions for better reliability, object tracking, remote monitoring and more, which is directly related to the sensor nodes. Received signal strength indication (RSSI) is main challenges in sensor networks, which is fully depends on distance measurement. The learning algorithm based traditional models are involved in error correction, distance measurement and improve the accuracy of effectiveness. But, most of the existing models are not able to protect the user's data from the unknown or malicious data during the signal transmission. The simulation outcomes indicate that proposed methodology may reach more constant and accurate position states of the unknown nodes and the target node in WSNs domain than the existing methods. Design/methodology/approach This paper present a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) from the adaptation of machine learning to identify the problems on deep ranging sensor networks and overthrow the problems of unknown sensor nodes localization in WSN networks by using instance parameters of elephant herding optimization (eho) technique and which is used to optimize the localization problem. Findings In this proposed method, the signal propagation properties can be extracted automatically because of this image data and RSSI data values. Rest of this manuscript shows that the ECO can find the better performance analysis of distance estimation accuracy, localized nodes and its transmission range than those traditional algorithms. ECO has been proposed as one of the main tools to promote a transformation from unsustainable development to one of sustainable development. An optimal segmentation with deep learning based inception network model for intracranial hemorrhage diagnosis

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) leads to intracranial hemorrhages (ICH), which is a severe illness resulted in death if it is not properly diagnosed and treated in the earlier stage. Presently, computer tomography (CT) images are widely used by radiologists to identify and locate the regions of ICH. But it is a tedious task and mainly depends on the professional radiologists. This paper develops new deep learning (DL)-based ICH diagnosis and classification (DL-ICH) model using optimal image segmentation with Inception Network. The proposed DL-ICH model involves preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, and classification. Firstly, the input data undergo format conversion where the NIfTI files are converted into JPEG format. Next, Kapur's thresholding with an elephant herd optimization (eho) algorithm called KT-eho is employed for image segmentation. Then, DL based Inception v4 network is applied as a feature extractor to extract a useful set of features and a multilayer perceptron (MLP) is used for classification. An extensive set of simulations takes place to ensure the effective diagnostic performance of the DL-ICH model and the results are investigated under diverse dimensions. The experimental results achieved better accuracy rate.

Dynamic performance improvement of buck-cuk converter in renewable energy resources using eho optimised PR controller

Renewable energy resources energy is widely collected from the natural resources of wind, photovoltaic, and geothermal heat energy. Generally, the hybrid system is affected by the unwanted power quality issues such as harmonics, voltage sag, and swell. The proportional resonant (PR) controller is optimised with an Elephant herding optimisation (eho) algorithm to investigate the dynamic performance of buck-cuk power converters in hybrid renewable energy sources. The proposed power converter is used to regulate the level of voltages by controlling the switching pulse of the converter depending on the duty cycle ratio. An eho algorithm is employed for tuning the PR controller gain parameters. In the grid side, shunt active power filters are integrated, and the inductor-capacitor-inductor filter is utilised for solving the overshoot and settling time problems. The total harmonic distortion (THD) and steady-state error are reduced by the proposed technique. The proposed system is designed with the help of MATLAB/Simulink platform, and the output response is determined with the simulated results. The dynamic response of the proposed system is examined based on simulated outcomes, and THD comparison analysis is performed with the existing controllers such as proportional-derivative, proportional-integral-derivative, and fuzzy controller.

An Elephant Herding Optimization algorithm-Based Static Switched Filter Compensation Scheme for Power Quality Improvement in Smart Grid

Power quality (PQ) issue is referred to as any problem that exposes in the voltage and current or in frequency value that causes a malfunction of protection devices or maloperation of the system. The improvement of the PQ is important at the load side when the production processes get more complicated and require a bigger liability level. An Elephant Herding Optimization (eho) algorithm is presented for improving the PQ and reducing the harmonic distortion using the Static Switched Filter Compensation (SSFC) in Photovoltaic (PV) interconnected wind energy conversion system (WECS). The novelty of the proposed system is enhancing the performance of the grid-connected hybrid energy system such as stabilizing the voltage, reducing the power loss and mitigating the harmonic distortion using the SSFC. Here, the proposed controller is used to optimize the control pulses for SSFC. The SSFC and voltage-source converters with smart dynamic controllers are emerging as stabilization and power filtering equipment to improve the PQ. The proposed method has implemented in MATLAB/Simulink platform and their performances are evaluated and contrasted with the existing technologies such as Bat algorithm (BA) and Firefly algorithm (FA) techniques.
