A Low light level (LLL) image compression circuit is studied based on improved Embedded Zero-tree Wavelet (ezw) algorithm to improve the real-time transmission performance. The improved ezw compression algorithm is implemented on TMS320C6455 DSP chip based on the theory of wavelet transform. And then a transmitter and receiver is designed which can transmit dynamic image in real time over a distance of 2 kilometers. Experiment and numerical results are presented to validate the efficiency and accuracy of this method.

The paper presents a new method for video compression based on the enhanced embedded zerotree wavelet (ezw) scheme. Recently, video codecs from the ezw family which use a 3D version of ezw or SPIHT algorithms showed better performance than the MPEG-2 compression algorithm. These algorithms have many advantages inherent for wavelet based schemes and ezw-like coders. Their most important advantages are good compression performance and scalability. However, they still allow improvement in several ways. First, as we recently showed, using Karhunen-Loeve (KL) transform instead of wavelet transform along the time axis improves compression ratio. Second, instead of the 3D ezw quantization scheme, we offer to use a convenient 2D quantization for every deconerated frame adding one symbol 'Strong Zero Tree', which means that every frame from a choosen set has a zero tree in the same location. The suggested compression algorithm based on KL transform, wavelet transform, and a new quantization scheme with strong zerotrees is free from some drawbacks of the plain 3D ezw codec. The presented codec shows 1-6 dB better results compared to the MPEG-2 compression algorithm on video sequences with small and medium motion.

The embedded zero-tree wavelet (ezw) coding algorithm is a very effective technique for low bitrate still image compression. In this paper, an improved ezw algorithm is proposed to achieve a high compression performance in terms of PSNR and bitrate for lossy and lossless image compression, respectively. To reduce the number of zerotrees, the scanning and symbol redundancy of the existing ezw;the proposed method is based on the use of a new significant symbol map which is represented in a more efficient way. Furthermore, we develop a new ezw-based schemes for achieving a scalable colour image coding by exploiting efficiently the interdependency of colour planes. Numerical results demonstrate a significant superiority of our scheme over the conventional ezw and other improved ezw schemes with respect to both objective and subjective criteria for lossy and lossless compression applications of greyscale and colour images. Aiming to improve the efficiency of image compression on the premise of controlling the compression time, an image compression oriented algorithm is proposed based on Dual Tree-Complex Wavelet and arithmetic coding algorithm. Methods : decompose the read-in image by Dt-cwt, then using Wellner (an adaptive binarization method) to calculate the image's threshold. Scan the image by ezw algorithm,and compared the threshold with wavelet coefficients,then output the important coefficients and compress these data by arithmetic coding. Finally, the compressed image was output by encoding inverse transform. Results :Four-level decomposition of Dual Tree-Complex Wavelet and seven-times scanning of the image have better compression result and shorter running time. Conclusion :The hardware configuration of this method is simple, and this algorithm can compress the image with high quality in a short time.

Lossless compression schemes with secure transmission play a key role in telemedicine applications that helps in accurate diagnosis and research. Traditional cryptographic algorithms for data security are not fast enough to process vast amount of data. Hence a novel Secured lossless compression approach proposed in this paper is based on reversible integer wavelet transform, ezw algorithm,arithmetic coding and selective bit scrambling. The use of the lifting scheme allows to generate truly lossless integer-to-integer wavelet transforms. Images are compressed/decompressed by well-known ezw algorithm and arithmetic coding is used to improve the compression performance and also increases the security level. The proposed approach employs scrambling method which is fast, simple to implement and it provides security. Lossless compression ratios and distortion performance of this proposed method are found to be better than other lossless techniques.

Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) became a powerful method for signal processing in the last decade. One of the most important applications of this tool is compression, for the bi-dimensional signals JPEG 2000 being an example. Although the new standard offers better results than the old one, new innovating ideas can improve even the JPEG 2000. One idea is to use complex wavelet transforms, transforms that offers more directions, instead of classical DWT. This paper comes to show the superiority of complex wavelet transforms in image compression, testing a new transform developed by N.G. Mngsbury. For this, the Embedded Zero-Tree Wavelet (ezw) algorithm proposed by Shapiro was used to compress images at some different bit rates.

This work addresses the delicate problem of lossy compression of medical images. More specifically, a selective allocation of coding resources is introduced based on the concept of "Diagnostic Interest" and an interactive methodology based on a new measure of "Diagnostic Quality". The selective allocation of resources is made possible by a selection a priori of regions of specific interest for diagnostic purpose. The idea is to change the precision of representation in a transformed domain of regions of particular interest, through a weighting procedure by an on-line user-defined quantization matrix. The overall compression method is multi-resolution (wavelet-based), provides for an embedded generation of the bit-stream and guarantees Jar a good rate-distortion trade-off, at various bit-rates, with spatially varying (ROI dependent) reconstruction quality. This work also analyzes the delicate issue of a professional usage of lossy compression in a PACS environment. The proposed compression methodology gives interesting insights in favor of using lossy compression in a controlled fashion by the expert radiologist. Most of the ideas presented in this work have been confirmed by extensive experimental simulations involving medical expertise.
