Cheating in examinations destroys the principles of fairness and justice in evaluation. Cheating detection is of great practical significance. Traditional cheating detection methods have many disadvantages, such as difficult to detect covert equipment cheating, multi-source cheating, difficult to distinguish plagiarists from plagiarists, difficult to distinguish plagiarists from victims, or plagiarism from coincidences. In this paper, the concept of knowledge point mastery Index is introduced to measure students' mastery of a certain knowledge point, and a test method of cheating based on improved cognitive diagnostic model is proposed. This method calculates the weight of each knowledge point in every examination question through linear regression and EM algorithm according to students' historical learning behavior, and then calculates students' mastering degree of knowledge point based on historical answers. Then calculate the mastering degree of knowledge point based on the examination results. Finally, we compare the mastering degree of knowledge point based on the examination results and the historical answers to detect students' cheating situation. The experiments show that the precision and recall rate of this method are significantly higher than those of the method based on the false-same rate, the method based on the false-same rate and the right-same rate and the method based on the Person-Fit index.

Identification of tag single-nucleotide polymorphisms in regions with varying linkage disequilibrium

We compared seven different tagging single-nucleotide polymorphism ( SNP) programs in 10 regions with varied amounts of linkage disequilibrium (LD) and physical distance. We used the Collaborative Studies on the Genetics of Alcoholism dataset, part of the Genetic Analysis Workshop 14. We show that in regions with moderate to strong LD these programs are relatively consistent, despite different parameters and methods. In addition, we compared the selected SNPs in a multipoint linkage analysis for one region with strong LD. As the number of selected SNPs increased, the LOD score, mean information content, and type I error also increased.

Noise adaptive speech recognition based on sequential noise parameter estimation

In this paper, a noise adaptive speech recognition approach is proposed for recognizing speech which is corrupted by additive non-stationary background noise. The approach sequentially estimates noise parameters, through which a nonlinear parametric function adapts mean vectors of acoustic models. In the estimation process, posterior probability of state sequence given observation sequence and the previously estimated noise parameter sequence is approximated by the normalized joint likelihood of active partial paths and observation sequence given the previously estimated noise parameter sequence. The Viterbi process provides the normalized joint-likelihood. The acoustic models are not required to be trained from clean speech and they can be trained from noisy speech. The approach can be applied to perform continuous speech recognition in presence of non-stationary noise. Experiments conducted on speech contaminated by simulated and real non-stationary noise show that when acoustic models are trained from clean speech, the noise adaptive speech recognition system provides improvements in word accuracy as compared to the normal noise compensation system (which assumes the noise to be stationary) in slowly time-varying noise. When the acoustic models are trained from noisy speech, the noise adaptive speech recognition system is found to be helpful to get improved performance in slowly time-varying noise over a system employing multi-conditional training. The assumptions on the hidden Markov model will limit the output of a model to be a piecewise stationary random sequence that may not be a good fit for real processes. In this paper we propose a piecewise polynomial high-order hidden Markov model so that the output of a model can be more versatile. We derived formulas for the calculation of the probability that a given sequence is produced by a model. We also derived the posterior probability of the states and the state transitions and used them in an expectation maximization algorithm to update the model parameters. Experiments on speech recognition of Mandarin digits were conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed model. Experimental results showed that the proposed model can reduce the recognition error rate compared to a baseline hidden Markov model.

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is an automatic tracking system which has been widely applied in the fields of intelligent transportation systems, e.g., collision avoidance, navigation, maritime supervision and management. Compare with other positioning systems, e.g., very high frequency (VHF) and radar, AIS can conquer the human errors and it is almost not affected by the external environment. To make better use of the AIS data, it is necessary to statistically analyze the massive AIS trajectories. The statistical results could make us better understand the potential properties of AIS trajectories. It is well known that most current practical applications are strongly dependent on the geometrical structures of AIS trajectories. In this paper, a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) is introduced to investigate the longitude and latitude differences of AIS trajectory data. The parameters of GMM are estimated using the expectation maximization (EM) algorithm. The experimental results have illustrated the superior performance of our proposed method.

An approach is established for maximizing the Lower bound on the Mismatch capacity (hereafter abbreviated as LM rate), a key performance bound in mismatched decoding, by optimizing the channel input probability distribution. Under a fixed channel input probability distribution, the computation of the corresponding LM rate is a convex optimization problem. When optimizing the channel input probability distribution, however, the corresponding optimization problem adopts a max-min formulation, which is generally non-convex and is intractable with standard approaches. To solve this problem, a novel dual form of the LM rate is proposed, thereby transforming the max-min formulation into an equivalent double maximization formulation. This new formulation leads to a maximization problem setup wherein each individual optimization direction is convex. Consequently, an alternating maximization algorithm is established to solve the resultant maximization problem setup. Each step of the algorithm only involves a closed-form iteration, which is efficiently implemented with standard optimization procedures. Numerical experiments show the proposed approach for optimizing the LM rate leads to noticeable rate gains.

A home healthcare monitoring system is a useful tool to check the cardiovascular condition in our daily life. Instead of diagnostic medical equipment, low-cost infrared cameras can measure vein images noninvasively and simply. However, the recorded image may result in low contrast with external noise. An efficient image filtering method to assess the state of peripheral veins will enable the early detection of disease. Therefore, a real-time analyzer with a new filtering method was developed for evaluating vein images acquired from a near-infrared camera. The novel image filter was automatically designed by the genetic algorithm with the expectation maximization algorithm, and it was able to alter the low image quality. If the real-time analyzer developed for the assessment of venous states is incorporated into e-healthcare applications, it could be easily distributed through smartphones or tablets.

With the advent of revolutionary wireless technologies and equipments, one may expect a great user mobility. In this paper, we study the mobility of users in user centric networking (UCN) environment. We propose the mobility prediction approach by WLAN group formation. We focus on mobility behavior of users and propose the WLAN group prediction approach. We base the proposed approach on the relatively simple parameters and evaluate the performance of our proposed concept by real implementation. Our approach is based on building the history of encountered WLAN groups, modeling an encounter instance of a new group as arrivals for the proposed model and finally adapting the prediction. In the granular level, the arrival rates are estimated using expectation maximization algorithm. We believe that the proposed approach is important for UCN like environments, where information on the hardware or software capabilities, available network resources, instant AP load and etc are not available for the end-user.
