Method for experimental data processing Concerning Chemical Reaction Rates in Low-Atomic Gases

A new method for joint processing of experimental data from various laboratories based on their approximation by the generalized Arrhenius law is proposed. The method is based on the construction of a system of functions that are orthogonal on a given set of points with arbitrary weights. As a result, the confidence intervals of the approximation coefficients can be estimated and the number of terms required for the approximation can be correctly determined. The performance of the method is demonstrated as applied to reactions of hydrogen combustion in air that are important at T < 1000 K. High accuracy of reaction rate approximation is achieved.

Mathematical Model of a System for Physics experimental data processing with the Need to Reprocess data

The paper presents a mathematical model of a system for physics experimental data processing with the need to reprocess data. This model is a queuing system with an unlimited number of servers with feedbacks and service times of primary and repeated applications having different parameters. An expression for the characteristic probability distribution function of the number of experimental data that require reprocessing during allotted time is derived by the method of Markovian summation. The main probability characteristics of this distribution are obtained.

Regularization of the double period method for experimental data processing

In physical and technical applications, an important task is to process experimental curves measured with large errors. Such problems are solved by applying regularization methods, in which success depends on the mathematician's intuition. We propose an approximation based on the double period method developed for smooth nonperiodic functions. Tikhonov's stabilizer with a squared second derivative is used for regularization. As a result, the spurious oscillations are suppressed and the shape of an experimental curve is accurately represented. This approach offers a universal strategy for solving a broad class of problems. The method is illustrated by approximating cross sections of nuclear reactions important for controlled thermonuclear fusion. Tables recommended as reference data are obtained. These results are used to calculate the reaction rates, which are approximated in a way convenient for gasdynamic codes. These approximations are superior to previously known formulas in the covered temperature range and accuracy.

Tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs) possess promising characteristics for refractometric purposes. However, their complex spectral response containing a large number of features makes the sensor's output relevance highly dependent on data demodulation and interpretation. We propose a method for processing sensor data based on a detailed analysis of the system's behavior during the transition of cladding modes from propagation to leakage into the environment. We regarded this transition as an exceptional point, which made it possible to obtain an analytical expression for leakage losses of cladding modes in the proximity of the leakage condition. As a result, we built a regression model with good performance ensuring the determination of changes in the refractive index with an accuracy of 2.1 x 10-5 RIU.

The one-way classification model of ANOVA (analysis of variance) is considered by exploiting an original approach based on a particular representation of the Moore-Penrose inverse of a columnwise partitioned matrix. By deriving various characteristics of the model, it is demonstrated that the utilized expression for the inverse is well-tailored to cope with the problem under consideration. One of the established results indicates that the solution to the normal equations in ANOVA customarily provided in the literature is not necessarily the minimal least squares solution.

Application of Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform for Spectra Background Reduction

This article presents a unique background-cutting method for experimental data processing using the dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) algorithm. The presented technique is based on discrete wavelet theory (DWT) and overcomes numerous obstacles encountered in information retrieval that are present in commonly employed numerical techniques, especially fitting or filtering. The DTCWT also outperforms methods based on the Fourier transform. This method is universal, which allows the analysis of an arbitrarily selected data range and its position in time. Furthermore, it suits the special requirements of signal analysis and optimization, both preservation and bias reduction. This article discusses the implementation of an algorithm for background reduction, leading to the extraction and enhancement of the valuable information from spectra. The capabilities of wavelets for spectra data processing are demonstrated based on the example of significantly different spectra, namely, X-ray powder diffraction and photoluminescence, measured for the crystal Ga2O3. Issues typical of the DWT application and important for robust and reliable data processing, such as the choice of wavelet family and the number of decomposition levels, are also discussed. It is available as a software package for background reduction.

An alternative look at the linear regression model is taken by proposing an original treatment of a full column rank model (design) matrix. In such a situation, the Moore-Penrose inverse of the matrix can be obtained by utilizing a particular formula which is applicable solely when a matrix to be inverted can be columnwise partitioned into two matrices of disjoint ranges. It turns out that this approach, besides simplifying derivations, provides a novel insight into some of the notions involved in the model and reduces computational costs needed to obtain sought estimators. The paper contains also a numerical example based on astronomical observations of the localization of Polaris, demonstrating usefulness of the proposed approach.

Self-Noise Spectrum Analysis and Joint Noise Filtering for the Sea-Wing Underwater Glider Based on experimental data

Using underwater gliders to measure underwater acoustic signals is a new measurement method emerging with the development of platform technology. Although underwater gliders are relatively quiet due to the absence of propellers, vehicle noise generated during motion is still inevitable, which will affect the recorded acoustic data. In this paper, we analyze the self-noise characteristics of underwater gliders based on simulated data by CFD technology for the hydrodynamic flow noise and experimental data acquired in an anechoic-water-tank experiment for the mechanical noise. The mechanical noise covers noises generated by buoyancy regulating (increasing and reducing), pitch regulating, rudder regulating and CTD pump working. According to the analysis results, the flow noise and CTD pump working noise could be ignored for the experimental data processing of sea trials. An experiment was conducted with an acoustic Sea-Wing underwater glider in the South China Sea from July 31 to September 4, 2018. Two kinds of noisy data were recorded, including target signals and ambient noise. All the target signals could be recognized after convolution filtering, except during the buoyancy regulating periods due to the high noise spectrum level. For the recorded ambient noise, in addition to the buoyancy regulating noise, the rudder and pitch regulating noises affected the recorded data. Then based on the acquired knowledge, a joint convolution filtering and thresholding method is proposed to remove the rudder and pitch noises from recorded noisy data. Kernels extracted from data acquired in the anechoic-water-tank experiment are used in the convolution filtering to localize each regulating action and energy thresholding is adopted to determine the duration of each regulation. All the rudder and pitch noises are removed from the recorded noisy data.

Asymptotic Stationary Probability Distribution of Total Amount of Physics experimental data

A mathematical model has been constructed for processing of physics experimental data in the form of a twophase resource queuing system with MMPP arrivals, general service time, and customers copying at the second phase. It is proved that the joint stationary probability distribution of the total amount of resources occupied at each block of the system converges to a three-dimensional Gaussian distribution under the asymptotic condition of the increasing intensity of the arrival process. The parameters of this asymptotic distribution are obtained.

With the SYCL programming model comes the promise of relatively easy parallel and accelerated code development as well as out-of-the-box portability between various hardware platforms from different vendors. One of the areas which can highly benefit from this kind of characteristics of the programming model is particle physics experiments, where large amounts of data need to be processed on multiple stages by a wide variety of algorithms of different profiles. Such a data processing pipeline is often required to consume streaming data from the detectors in an online manner. Modern hardware platforms, accelerators, and their increasing performance are an opportunity for collaborations to collect and analyze more data, more effectively and with better accuracy. On the other hand, building a complex software stack by teams with a limited number of developers becomes more and more challenging in a multi-vendor landscape and with new programming models and APIs emerging. As the physics experiments are designed and computing solutions evaluated many years ahead of the actual run, there is also a need for the codebase of this kind of scientific software to be future-proof, e.g., being able to run on a next-generation computing cluster that uses GPU accelerators from different vendors or entirely different platforms like upcoming powerful APU devices. In this project, we begin with a simple single-threaded implementation of particle track reconstruction algorithm proposed for one of the subdetectors in the PANDA experiment being under development as a part of the FAIR Facility at GSI, Darmstadt, Garmany. We start with a task to port the algorithm to SYCL with minimal effort, I.e., trying to keep the kernel code as close to the original implementation as possible, while attempting to maintain good parallelization and competitive performance in an accelerated environment.
