Haze-fog pollution has been one of the major atmospheric pollution problems in China. This study is aimed at understanding spatial distribution and spatial correlation of haze-fog pollution in China from 2001 to 2010 using exploratory spatial data analysis technique. The results show that spatial distribution of haze-fog pollution is not changed obviously in the 10 years, and the most serious polluted region is distributed in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The values of global Moran's I vary from 0.4066 to 0.4842, which indicates that haze-fog pollution is not distributed randomly, but has spatial agglomeration effects. The High-High agglomeration type is mainly distributed in central China, which contains 15, 14, 14, and 13 regions for the years of 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2010, respectively, while the Low-Low agglomeration type is concentrated in western and eastern China, which contains 11, 10, 10, and 8 regions for the years of 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2010, respectively. The results should provide policy guidance for public authorities to control haze-fog pollution. Further researches are still needed because of the complexity of haze-fog pollution and variety of influence factors.

Regional development programs in the regional autonomy policy require the smallest area unit information. One of those programs is the construction of health facilities. The process of health development in the future requires the pattern of distribution of health facilities that already exists today. Distribution of health facilities in the province of Yogyakarta is still concentrated in urban areas, and the number of health facilities is not comparable with the area of each district. Therefore spatial data analysis using exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) is needed in order to see the pattern of accessibility level of existing health facilities. spatial analysis considers the spatial correlation among the regions as the object of research. The existence of health facilities in a village will influence the accessibility to health facilities in another village. This paper uses health facilities index to find spatial clusters of accessibility level. New method based on administrative boundaries is added to this analysis as weights matrix to be compared with existing methods in GeoDa tools. The experiments show the use of weights matrix by administrative boundaries gives the best result. This weighing has the highest Moran's I, so it is more suitable weighing method for this analysis. Furthermore, the spatial clustering of the easiest access to health facilities occurs in the urban areas and some area around them, such as in Yogyakarta City and Sleman Regency near Yogyakarta City, also in central government area.

Evaluating the Relationships of Bus Transit with Street and Off-Street Robberies

The relationship between public transit and crime has been extensively investigated for decades. Compared to rail systems, limited research has been conducted on bus transit and its surrounding robbery influence. In particular, most of the studies have focused on either all types of robbery as a whole or street robbery only. Street and off-street robberies have distinct spatial characteristics, however: The former occurs on the street, whereas the latter occurs not on the street but at indoor places or in (semi)public areas. Therefore, they might have different proximity to bus transit. Furthermore, as bus transit is not operated twenty-four hours a day, it is questionable to connect bus transit with robbery when bus transit is not in service. This study uses exploratory spatial data analysis and statistical modeling to compare and contrast street and off-street robberies to discover how their relations with bus transit vary in space and time. Results reveal that both street and off-street robberies decrease as the distance from bus stops increases. Compared to off-street robbery, street robbery is inclined to occur on the street without bus routes and during nonservice hours, respectively. Industrial parks have been tested in various regions around the world, in attempt to foster innovation and fuel economic growth. Despite the importance of industry co-agglomerations in regional growth, few studies examine them in regional geographic space. This paper combines exploratory spatial data analysis and input output method to explore the spatial pattern of key industrial co-agglomerations in Beijing, which is illustrated by location, function, frequency, spatial hierarchy and spacing. The results contribute to linking abstract economic and actual geographical spaces in urban and regional growth, enabling urban and regional planners to judge and evaluate planning initiatives before and after implementation. The failure of sub-center plans and risks of industrial parks schemes in Beijing are addressed. By considering industrial input output relations including environmental and human resources, urban planners can optimize the development of such co-agglomerations to foster sustainable urban development. This study explores the spatial pattern of industry dynamics in Japan's motor metropolis of Nagoya. exploratory spatial data analysis methodologies that reflect aspects of both geographical and technological proximities within regional industries are proposed and applied to the long-term, sustained manufacturing and service sector growth rates. The descriptive results identify the presence of positive multilayered growth clusters, driven mainly by the automobile and associated industries. These growth clusters differ in sectoral composition and geographical scale;the larger specialized growth cluster of transportation equipment encompasses the smaller one composed of diverse manufacturing and service sectors.

An exploratory analysis on waste management in Italy: A focus on waste disposed in landfill

The aim of this paper is to analyze the waste management process with a focus on waste disposed in landfills. The results of our analysis provide guidelines for actions geared at improving the waste management. We apply cluster analysis and exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA) techniques to 103 Italian provinces for the year 2011. Thus we are allowed to identify spatial correlation processes and spatial clusters. The results of our investigation show a dual structure in the distribution of landfill disposal rate. Moreover, they importantly suggest that institutional quality and pro-environmental behaviour are significant factors in the waste management process. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Based on entropy weight, this study analyzed the horizontal spatial differences of county economy using the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution and the exploratory spatial data analysis. Taking the 88 counties(districts) of Guangdong Province as the research object and selecting out 18 economic indicators, this study conducted a spatial statistical econometric analysis of spatial correlation among the counties of Guangdong Province, and preliminarily explored the characteristics of the spatial differences. The results showed that the economic development differences among regions in Guangdong Province are *** economically relatively advanced regions are mostly situated in the Pearl River Delta while those weak ones are concentrated in mountainous regions;the spatial autocorrelation in the development of regional economy is remarkable and the economically developed counties tend to be concentrated spatially.

An exploratory spatial analysis of Social Vulnerability and Smoke Plume Dispersion in the U.S. South

This study explores the spatial association between social vulnerability and smoke plume dispersion at the census block group level for the 13 southern states in the USDA Forest Service's Region 8. Using environmental justice as a conceptual basis, we use exploratory spatial data analysis to identify clusters or "hot spots" for the incidence of both higher than average socially marginal populations and plume dispersion. The larger health disparities and environmental justice literature suggests that lower income and minority populations in the U.S. face greater exposure than middle/upper income, non-minority populations to environmental pollutants;however, we are aware of only a few studies examining this relationship in the context of population exposure to wildfires or prescribed fires in the U.S. South, despite the high occurrence of wildfires in the region. Analyses were conducted across five ecoregions in the South and for winter and spring/summer seasons. Results by ecoregion show significant spatial clustering of high social vulnerability block groups in the vicinity of block groups with a high number of smoke plumes (i.e., "hot spots"). Overall, however, socially vulnerable communities are not exposed to more smoke than non-socially vulnerable communities. data limitations and suggestions for further research are discussed.

Background: Lyme disease (LD) is a tick-borne zoonotic illness caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. Texas is considered a non-endemic state for LD and the spatial distribution of the state's reported LD cases is unknown. Methods: We analyzed human LD cases reported to the Texas Department of State Health Services (TX-DSHS) between 2000 and 2011 using exploratory spatial analysis with the objective to investigate the spatial patterns of LD in Texas. Case data were aggregated at the county level, and census data were used as the population at risk. Empirical Bayesian smoothing was performed to stabilize the variance. Global Moran's I was calculated to assess the presence and type of spatial autocorrelation. Local Indicator of spatial Association (LISA) was used to determine the location of spatial clusters and outliers. Results and Discussion: There was significant positive spatial autocorrelation of LD incidence in Texas with Moran's I of 0.41 (p = 0.001). LISA revealed significant variation in the spatial distribution of human LD in Texas. First, we identified a high-risk cluster in Central Texas, in a region that is thought to be beyond the geographical range of the main vector, Ixodes scapularis. Second, the eastern part of Texas, which is thought to provide the most suitable habitat for I. scapularis, did not appear to be a high-risk area. Third, LD cases were reported from several counties in western Texas, a region considered unsuitable for the survival of Ixodes ticks. Conclusions: These results emphasize the need for follow-up investigations to determine whether the identified spatial pattern is due to: clustering of misdiagnosed cases, clustering of patients with an out-of state travel history, or presence of a clustered unknown enzootic cycle of B. burgdorferi in Texas. This would enable an improved surveillance and reporting of LD in Texas.
