This article draws on the social theory of Theodor W. Adorno in order to critique the discourse of color-blindness' and articulate an alternative individualist ideal of racial justice. I begin by noting that Adorno's criticism of law in Negative Dialectics anticipates arguments against color-blindness advanced in critical race theory. I then explicate Adorno's understanding of law in relation to his broader account of social domination. Race can be situated within this account through the concept of second nature'. The notion of racial second nature elucidates the contradiction within color-blindness between formal equality and substantive inequality. As an alternative to the color-blind norm, I posit Adorno's utopian ideal of emancipated individuality as an appropriate aspiration for racial justice. This ideal enables the jurisgenerative transformation of liberal rights concepts, which have at once enabled and constrained the struggle for racial equity.

This research study focused on identifying the protection of critical infrastructures and enhancing cybersecurity. The most recent cyber practice that is in place to protect critical infrastructures was also explored. from the literature review, it was concluded there are security loopholes in critical infrastructures. The study also uncovered that the federal government uses the newest cybersecurity tools, but does not share cyber vulnerabilities and risks with the private sector operating the infrastructures. The study also included an in-depth examination of Congressional documents pertaining to cybersecurity. However, it concluded that implementing rules and regulations is an ardouous step for the US Congress due to conflicts of interest. finaly, the studied uncovered robust training, information sharing, and a contingency plan as the DHS's strategy to adapt to cyber threats that are emerging. The purpose of this research is to explore the use of business simulations games as an experimental learning tool at universities through a contemporary,web-based business simulation featuring artificial intelligence and mobile support. Core element is the design process of an artifact,based on the design science methodology. The training and learning effects on the participants are observed via the artifact itself in a series of experiments and an additional survey. The artificial intelligence intended to act as an adviser throughout the simulation. This component is not capable of learning or dealing with complex mechanics. The main focus of this research lies on the design and validity of the artifact rather than artificial intelligence. The mechanics in the game have a high influence on the decision behavior of the players,since the simulation provides permanent feedback on how the players' decisions affect the game.

This study analyzes the correlation between emigration intake and economic growth in Japan. The hypothesis is that immigration acceptance and Japanese gross domestic product (GDP) have positive correlation. As population aging in Japan will get further serious in the future, immigration intake is expected to be a possible solution to compensate for the lack of labor force growth. Nevertheless, few quantitative studies have examined the impact of immigration on Japanese economic growth. This study utilized immigration data from 1980 to 2005 every 5 years in 47 prefectures in Japan to run regressions. Dependent variables examined in the regressions are: real GDP, real GDP pre capita and real GDP per worker. Especially the latter two models are crucial indicators to see substantial well-being of individuals in depopulation society. Declining in labor population puts downward pressure on total economic output, but it is not necessarily the case in output per capita and worker. Real GDP per capita and worker would be more important indexes to consider immigration intake rather than conventional total real GDP. In conclusion, the study found immigration intake in Japan had positive correlation with the output in all models. In the models of real GDP per capita or worker, immigration induces negative dilution effect on capital per capita or worker. However, positive impacts of immigration such as higher accumulative saving or complementing holes in labor markets are expected to surpass the negative effect. The study indicates potential growth by immigration intake in the future. If Japan aggressively introduces a selective migration policy for high skilled labors, the influence of immigration on the output would be higher. Yet, not only the economical aspect, also social aspects affected by immigration in distant future have to be carefully considered before accepting immigration.

As personal computers became more accessible to the public, the criminal element began to use them as a tool for their illegal activity. To counter and investigate the use of computers as an instrument of crimes, the federal Bureau of Investigation (fBI) began developing methods and tools to recover digital evidence for prosecution. These methods led to the initial discipline of computer forensic science, which later evolved into a profession. Over the years as computer crimes became more prevalent, other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies began to train investigators in digital forensics, along with private corporations protecting their networks. There has been a push by numerous organizations and by legislation on the standardization of computer forensics, but to date there are no mandatory set standards for certifications, accreditation's, and education for the digital forensic profession. The purpose of this research was to examine the need for the implementation of mandatory standardized training and standards in the profession of digital forensics. How will a national standard affect the science of digital forensics? By not having any standardization, how is this detrimental to the profession and the legal system? Mandatory standardization is required to enhance the creditability of the digital forensic profession in the eyes of the public, other forensic sciences, and more importantly the legal system. Our society has slowly evolved into a digital one and will only grow in the future. We need well educated and trained digital forensics examiners to bring legitimacy to the profession to protect our national and public interest. Greenhouse gas emissions have been a growing concern. The transportation sector contributes to one-third of GHG emissions in the United States from fossil fuel burning. The Renewable fuel Standard set a requirement for 16 billion gallons (ethanol equivalent) of cellulosic biofuels to be used in the market. Aviation biofuels can help to meet both of these problems as well as improve U.S. energy security. Investment in the biofuel industry carries a lot of risk. The biofuel industry is run by the private sector, but can be incentivized by government. Cellulosic biofuels carry even more risk than first generation biofuels, because conversion technology is more expensive. As a result, incentives are needed to reduce the risk for private investors. Government can implement policies to reduce the risk in investment in aviation biofuels. The issue is choosing which policy will provide the most reduction in risk, while providing a lowest cost to the government. This analysis focuses on aviation biofuel production using fast pyrolysis from corn stover. Cost benefit analysis is used to calculate the net present value, internal rate of return, and benefit-cost ratio for a plant. We look at deterministic and stochastic cases. for the stochastic cases, this study uses @Risk, a Palisades Corporation software to determine the risk of investment in aviation biofuels. Uncertainty is added to fuel price and four technical variables: capital cost, final fuel yield, hydrogen cost, and feedstock cost. The fuel price can be steady or increasing at DOE projections. We look at the impact of three policies: reverse auction, competitive capital subsidy, and carbon tax. for the reverse auction and capital subsidy, we used contract lengths of 5, 10, and 15 years to see the impact a longer contract could have on probability of loss. A fluid inclusion study was conducted on Herkimer Diamonds from vugs throughout the upper Cambrian Little falls Dolostone of the Mohawk Valley, New York State. Salinities (wt. % NaCl) determined for the fluid inclusions present in the Herkimer Diamonds ranged from 16.15%-20.07%. Homogenization temperatures ranged from 167.5°C-180.2°C. These inclusions are similar to the high temperature type W2 inclusions of O'Reilly and Parnell (1999), consistent with formations under gas window conditions (>200°C). This similarity in data from 65 fluid inclusions from various sample locations and stratigraphic units, suggests a coeval flow of hydrothermal fluid through faulting and vugs in the Little falls Dolostone. The geologic history of the Herkimer Diamonds dates back to approximately 500 million years ago. Human interaction with these crystals has been documented in the late 1500's to early 1600's. Since this time, an increase in interest of geologist and collectors has warranted not only scientific intrigue, but also economic growth in the Mohawk Valley, New York. Social workers in child welfare often experience burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. These conditions negatively impact social workers as well as children and families by impeding social workers' practice and hindering social workers' intervention skills. Reflective supervision is an effective strategy that researchers suggest as a prevention or remedy for burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. The purpose of this project was to identify a funding source and write a grant proposal for an emotional support pilot program that will offer emotional support to CSWs of the South County office of the Department of Children and family Services of Los Angeles County. The goals of the pilot program are to reduce stress levels for Emergency Response workers and improve the service provided to children and families in crisis. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.

The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant to secure funding for a program that provides safety and security, treatment and psychological support in order to reinstate the well-being of Latina survivors of human trafficking in Los Angeles County. This project will be implemented by a Master in Social Work (MSW), who will use intensive case management along with trauma-specific therapy to assist the survivors of trafficking towards self-sufficiency and a healthy life. The services provided in this program will help clients use self-determination to guide them through the transition from victim to survivor. After an extensive search of funding sources, Oak foundation was selected for their commitment to issues affecting women and children. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.
