Microstructures and mechanical properties of (CoCrfeMnNi)100-xMox high entropy alloy films

The effects of Mo addition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of CoCrfeMnNi high entropy alloy films (HEAfs) were studied in this work. To achieve this, a series of (CoCrfeMnNi)100-xMox HEAfs was prepared by magnetron co-sputtering. The films were fCC without Mo addition and composed of fCC and HCP structures with minor Mo addition. With the further increase in Mo content, the films transformed to an amorphous structure. Nanoindentation revealed an initial decrease in hardness and then increase with the increasing Mo content. While the initial decrease in hardness could be attributed to the detwinning-induced softening for films with small twin spacing as observed by TEM after micropillar compression, the subsequent increase could be attributed to solid solution strengthening and formation of nanotwins with larger twin spacing and no detwinning observed after compression. Using scratch tests, the Mo-doped HEAfs exhibited a high hardness, good wear resistance and low coefficient of friction. The results of micropillar compression tests showed the increasing compressive yield strength and the decreasing fracture strain with the increasing Mo content. When x = 4.9, the film revealed the optimum mechanical properties with fracture strength of 6.51 GPa and little reduction in ductility.

Developing and accepting industry 4.0 influences the industry structure and customer willingness. To a successful transition to industry 4.0, implementation strategies should be selected with a systematic and comprehensive view to responding to the changes flexibly. This research aims to identify and prioritise the strategies for implementing industry 4.0. for this purpose, at first, evaluation attributes of strategies and also strategies to put industry 4.0 in practice are recognised. Then, the attributes are weighted to the experts' opinion by using the Best Worst Method (B.W.M.). Subsequently, the strategies for implementing industry 4.0 in fara-Sanat Company, as a case study, have been ranked based on the Interval Valued Intuitionistic fuzzy (I.V.I.f) of the T.O.D.I.M. method. The results indicated that the attributes of 'Technology', 'Quality', and 'Operation' have respectively the highest importance. furthermore, the strategies for "new business models development', 'Improving information systems' and 'Human resource management' received a higher rank. Eventually, some research and executive recommendations are provided. Having strategies for implementing industry 4.0 is a very important solution. Accordingly, multi-criteria decision-making (M.C.D.M.) methods are a useful tool for adopting and selecting appropriate strategies. In this research, a novel and hybrid combination of B.W.M.-T.O.D.I.M. is presented under I.V.I.f. information.

The concept of second nature promises to provide an explanation of how nature and reason can be reconciled. But such concept is laden with ambiguity. On the one hand, second nature is understood as what binds together all cognitive activities. On the other hand, second nature is conceived of as a kind of nature that can be modified by cognitive activities. The paper aims to investigate this ambiguity by distinguish-ing a Kantian conception of second nature from a Hegelian one. It argues that the idea of a transformation from a being of first nature into a being of second nature that stands at the heart of the Kantian conception is mistaken.

Prenatal exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals can interfere with development, and has been associated with social-cognitive functioning and adverse health outcomes later in life. Exposure-associated changes of DNA methylation (DNAm) patterns have been suggested as a possible mediator of this relationship. This study investigated whether prenatal low-dose exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/fs) is associated with altered DNAm patterns across the genome in a Western urban-industrial population. In 142 mother-infant pairs from the Duisburg Birth Cohort Study, PCBs and PCDD/fs levels were quantified from maternal blood during late pregnancy and associated with DNAm levels in cord blood using the Illumina EPIC beadchip. The epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) identified 32 significantly differentially methylated positions (DMPs) and eight differentially methylated regions (DMRs) associated with six congeners of PCB and PCDD in females or males (fDRs < 0.05). DMPs and DMRs mapped to genes involved in neurodevelopment, gene regulation, and immune functioning. Weighted gene correlation network analysis (WGCNA) showed 31 co-methylated modules (fDRs < 0.05) associated with one congener of PCDf levels in females. Results of both analytical strategies indicate that prenatal exposure to PCBs and PCDD/fs is associated with altered DNAm of genes involved in neurodevelopment, gene expression and immune functioning. DNAm and gene expression levels of several of these genes were previously associated with EDC exposure in rodent models. follow-up studies will clarify whether these epigenetic changes might contribute to the origin for adverse mental and health outcomes.

free your 'most open' Android: a comparative discourse analysis on Android

Through this paper, we convey a comparative analysis of how Google Inc. and the free Software foundation Europe (fSfE) discursively construct and contest Android, a dominant mobile operating system. Methodologically, we use political discourse theory to engage in the textual analysis;identify and compare key signifiers and nodal points across the exemplary texts from the two actors, and interpret their meaning vis a vis contextual insights about the political economy of Android's production. Albeit being marketed as 'the first truly open platform' for mobiles, through our analysis we find Google's definition of open source practices strictly conditional. We argue that Google's usage of compatibility rhetorically as well as techno-legally justifies the conglomerate's control over the platform. By contrast, the discursive moment by free software activists, through a campaign 'free Your Android' deconstructs the discourse on open source and attempts to politicize the access to code in the mobile domain. This is done by extending from the well-known developer's four freedoms onto users' privacy, due to personal character of mobile devices. Such articulation of free software in relation to privacy of user data is a new development and arguably has a potential to contribute to widening support to the movement.

"All history is the history of thought": competing British idealist historiographies

Along with utilitarianism, British idealism was the most important philosophical and practical movement in Britain and its Empire during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. Even though the British idealists have regained some of their standing in the history of philosophy, their own historical theories still fail to receive the deserved scholarly attention. This article helps to fill that major gap in the literature. Understanding historiography as concerning the appropriate modes of enquiring into the recorded past, this article analyses the key historiographical commitments that underpin the writings of the early T.H. Green (section two), Edward Caird (section three), and f.H. Bradley (sections four and five). Section six explores the influence of Bradley's historiography. These approaches are linked by the belief that all thought can be properly understood only by critical historians who possess the appropriate tools with which to distinguish permanently valid truths from the transient imperfections with which those truths are mixed. A crucial division between them is the invocation of a neo-Hegelian Geist by the early Green and Caird, and Bradley's reliance on a progressive human nature. Moreover, the article establishes that R.G. Collingwood's highly influential theories of "absolute presuppositions" and "re-enactment" were taken largely from Bradley's historiography.

Long-Term Outcomes after Macular Hole Surgery

Purpose: To evaluate the structural and visual outcomes after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for idiopathic full-thickness macular hole (MH) with at least 5 years of follow-up information. Design: Retrospective case series. Participants: Patients with idiopathic MH who had at least 5 years of follow-up information after PPV. Methods: Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was recorded preoperatively and, when available, at 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, and 10 years after surgery. Reestablishment of the postoperative integrity of the ellipsoid zone (EZ) and the external limiting membrane (ELM) and presence of cystoid spaces were evaluated using spectral-domain (SD) OCT. Main Outcome Measures: Postoperative BCVA and its correlation with different SD OCT parameters. Results: Eighty-seven eyes of 80 patients with a mean age at surgery of 68.9 +/- 7.03 years were included. The mean postoperative follow-up was 9.6 +/- 4.3 years (median, 9 years;range, 5-22 years). The mean preoperative BCVA was 0.20 +/- 0.14 (range, 0.03-0.66). Postoperative BCVA was improved at all time points compared with preoperative BCVA (P < 0.05). Improvement in the postoperative BCVA remained stable 10 years after surgery. Initial successful closure of MH was achieved in 82 eyes (94%). Macular hole reopening occurred in 7 eyes (8.0%). Eleven eyes (13%) were reoperated: 4 eyes (4.5%) for persistence and 7 eyes (8.0%) for reopening of MH. Indocyanine green (ICG) stain was used in 22 eyes (25.2%). Among 57 patients (66%) who were phakic before surgery, 52 eyes (91.2%) underwent cataract extraction after PPV at a mean duration of 32.7 +/- 38.5 months (range, 2-187 months). Postoperative EZ integrity was restored in 52 eyes (60%), ELM integrity was restored in 54 eyes (62%), and cystoid spaces of variable severity were observed in 28 eyes (32%). Preoperative BCVA of 20/60 or better and postoperative reestablished ELM and EZ integrity were associated significantly with better postoperative BCVA at different postoperative fo

The legacy of reification: Gillian Rose and the value-form theory challenge to Georg Lukacs

This article examines the relationship between Marx's Capital, Georg Lukacs and Critical Theory through the prism of value-form theory. Marx's theorisation of value understands commodities as expressions of the historical form of social relations defined by capital. Products of human labour become values in capitalist production, defined by the abstract quality of undifferentiated quantities of labour-power, exchangeable through the universal character of the market. The social form of this process, Marx identifies as processing a fetish quality, where humans take on the thing-like character of commodities. The impact of this theorisation on Critical Theory has been considerable, beginning with Lukacs' concept of reification. In Part I, I examine the challenge to Lukacs' interpretation of Marx's Capital made by Gillian Rose. She draws attention to a misidentification of reification in Marx, suggesting a strong conceptual distinction between commodity-fetishism and reification. In their conceptual flattening, Rose contends that Lukacs and Critical Theory generalised Marx's value-form theory, losing its speculative character. I argue that despite Rose's suggestion remaining unfulfilled, she helps illuminate important tensions between Marx's value theory and Critical Theory. This comparison allows in Part II for the beginning level of a speculative approach to Marx's Capital to be advanced.

Kristeva vis-a-vis Hegel: forgiveness as Psychoanalytic Interpretation and Absolute Knowing

This article reconstructs and compares Kristeva's account of psychoanalytic interpretation as a practice of forgiveness with Hegel's account of the origin of Absolute Knowing in the forgiveness constitutive of mutual recognition. An emphasis on homologies between the memory-work of Kristevan psychoanalysis and the recollective process of Hegelian Absolute Knowing elicits deeper affinities between Kristeva and Hegel than have previously been supposed. Both Kristevan and Hegelian forgiveness operate as the healing of an originary guilt, achieved through the verbal confession and examination of the confessor's particular biographical and historical past, negating and raising up-sublating or sublimating-the contradictions of consciousness. Psychoanalysis and Absolute Knowing both enact in the present the reconciliation which religion perpetually defers to an unspecified future. While not replacing the institution of legal punishment, Kristevan and Hegelian forgiveness qua personal and social renewal and rebirth provide for the possibility of radical political transformation.

Schiff base anchored silver nanomaterial: An efficient and selective nano probe for fluoride detection in an aqueous medium

Schiff base anchored plasmonic silver nanomaterial was designed and developed as a qualitative nano probe for fluoride detection in an aqueous medium. Schiff base encloses phenolic functionality has utilized as reducing as well as capping agent for preparation of the silver nanoparticles. The fluoride sensing was investigated by UV–Visible, fSEM and fSEM-EDAX analysis techniques. The UV–Vis and fSEM analysis illustrate that Schiff base anchored silver nanoparticles, exhibited SPR band at 475 nm and uniform spherical (28–30 nm) size which on interaction with fluoride, nanoparticles get agglomerate with a visual color change from brown to dark brown.
