This study presents a novel approach for enhancing the crack self-healing behavior of SiC f /SiC–GH536 brazed joints under high-temperature conditions by introducing Er 2 Si 2 O 7 + MoSi 2 composite sealing coatings at the brazing seam. The key innovation lies in the development of a self-healing mechanism that not only improves the oxidation resistance of SiC f /SiC composites but also actively repairs microcracks during service. The Er 2 Si 2 O 7 + MoSi 2 sealing coating was fabricated via hot-press sintering, and its microstructure and phase composition were systematically characterized. After annealing at 1000 °C for 1 h in air, cracks in the coating were nearly completely healed, accompanied by a 5.89 % volume expansion of the healing phases, which effectively impeded further crack propagation. Moreover, the shear strength of the coated brazed joint reached 54.7 MPa, representing a 35.7 % improvement compared to joints without the coating. The self-healing mechanism consists of two sequential processes: the oxidation of MoSi 2 to form SiO 2 , which infiltrates and fills the cracks, followed by the reaction between SiO 2 and Er 2 SiO 5 to form Er 2 Si 2 O 7 , generating compressive stress that promotes crack closure and enhances joint integrity. This work provides a theoretical foundation for the design of high-performance brazed joints and introduces a promising strategy to improve the reliability and service life of ceramic–metal composite joints through active crack repair under high-temperature oxidative environments.

A good balance between strength and ductility in Mg?Zn?Mn-Gd alloy

Microstructure evolution, dynamic recrystallization (DRX) behavior and mechanical properties of Mg?6Zn?1MnxGd alloys (x = 0, 0.2, 1.0 and 3.0 wt%) were investigated. The results showed that the phase components of ascast Mg?6Zn?1Mn alloy were comprised of Mg7Zn3, ?-Mn and ?-Mg, while Mg3Zn6Gd (I phase) and Mg3Zn3Gd2 (W phase) were detected with the addition of Gd. Gd addition led to finer recrystallized grains, and it retarded DRX process due to the obstruction of nano-scale particles to grain boundaries. All as-extruded alloys exhibited typical basal texture, but Gd addition resulted in a low pole density of basal texture. Mg?6Zn?1Mn-3.0Gd alloy (ZMG613) exhibited a good balance between the strength and ductility with an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 354 MPa, yield strength (YS) of 306 MPa and elongation (EL) of 15.7%. fine grain strengthening, second phase strengthening and dislocation strengthening were mostly contributed to the achievement of high strength. And the excellent ductility was mainly ascribed to the finer grains, weak basal texture, nano-scale I phase and nonbasal slip activation.

In-vitro Renal Artery Stenting Using a Steerable Guide Wire Navigated by a Mobile Electromagnetic field

Objective Endovascular procedures require precise guide wire control which often requires auxiliary devices. Therefore, catheterization can be time and resource intensive. A novel technology involves using a mobile external electromagnetic field to manipulate guide wires remotely, eliminating the need for additional devices. Design This experimental study evaluates the feasibility of this technology in a representative 3-D model mimicking the human vasculature, comparing it to conventional means. Methods We assessed the efficacy of a magnetically steerable guide wire (MGW) versus a conventional guide wire (CGW) in catheterizing the renal artery in a 3D silicone model of the abdominal aorta. Results A total of 20 procedures were performed, with 10 utilizing a MGW for renal artery catheterization and 10 using a CGW. Technical success was 100% for all procedures. Median procedure time was significantly shorter for MGW than for CGW (105 s vs. 181 s, p < 0.001). We observed a trend towards lower median fluoroscopic time (65 s vs 101 s, p = 0.06) and lower median fluoroscopic dose (6.84 mGycm2 vs. 10.98 mGycm2, p = 0.063) for MGW compared with CGW. Conclusion Precise control of a steerable guide wire using a mobile external electromagnetic field is technically feasible in a three-dimensional (3D) silicone-model of the human aorta. It facilitates in-vitro renal artery catheterization and stenting and reduces both procedure and fluoroscopy time. This novel technology could further improve numerous endovascular procedures.

Limited ventilatory reserve during exercise in HfpEf: Impact of lung size and adiposity

Background Heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction (HfpEf) exhibit a tachypneic breathing strategy during exercise. Patients with HfpEf have pulmonary system alterations that may contribute to the breathing strategy in HfpEf. Research Question Do patients with HfpEf have limited ventilatory reserve compared to controls during exercise? further, does greater upper body adiposity contribute to the lower ventilatory reserves in HfpEf? Study Design and Methods HfpEf patients (n=16; age: 70±8 yrs) and controls (n=19; age: 69±8 yrs) performed incremental cycling to volitional exhaustion. Trunk percent fat was quantified with dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. Inspiratory capacity, inspiratory and expiratory reserve volumes, and ventilatory variables were compared between groups at rest and during exercise at 40 W and peak oxygen uptake ( V ˙ O 2 peak). Results HfpEf patients had lower total lung capacity (HfpEf: 5.4±1.1 vs. CTL: 6.4±1.2L), fVC (HfpEf: 3.1±0.7 vs. CTL: 3.8±0.6L), and fEV 1 than controls (all, p<0.04). During exercise at 40 W, HfpEf patients had higher breathing frequency as well as smaller inspiratory reserve volume (HfpEf: 1.2±0.4 vs. CTL: 1.5±0.3L) and expiratory reserve volume (HfpEf: 0.9±0.4 vs. CTL: 1.1±0.5L) than controls (both, p<0.05). At V ˙ O 2 peak, inspiratory and expiratory reserve volumes were not different between groups (both, p>0.21), but HfpEf patients had lower end inspiratory lung volume (p=0.02). HfpEf patients had higher trunk percent fat than controls (HfpEf: 49±7 vs. control: 40±8%) (p<0.01). Percent trunk fat was related to fVC (percent predicted) (r= -0.57) and tidal volume to fVC ratio during exercise at 40 W (r=0.53) for HfpEf patients (both, p<0.04), but not controls (both, p>0.72). Interpretation These findings demonstrate that patients with HfpEf have limited ventilatory reserve during exercise, in part due to their smaller lung capacity. further, our findings suggest that the greater distribution of upper body

Being and holding responsible: Reconciling the disputants through a meaning-based Strawsonian account

A fundamental question in responsibility theory concerns the relation between being responsible and our practices of holding responsible. 'Strawsonians' often claim that being responsible is somehow a function of our practices of holding responsible, while others think that holding responsible depends on being responsible, and still others think of being and holding responsible as interdependent. Based on a Wittgensteinian reading of Strawson, I develop an account of the relation between being and holding responsible which respects major concerns of all parties in this debate. I characterize the way in which being responsible depends on holding responsible as genealogical, and the way in which holding responsible depends on being responsible as justificatory. I show how my account cuts across received ways of carving up the debate, and how it allows for all the kinds of fallibility about moral responsibility that are worth wanting.

We report a novel transapical approach to treat a challenging residual aortic dissection following prior Type A dissection repair. Due to the complex anatomy and high surgical risk, a multidisciplinary team opted for a transapical transcatheter closure of the re-entry tear using a Gore® Cardioform Septal Occluder. A custom 3D-printed model of the patient's aorta was used to simulate the device deployment. The procedure resulted in the successful exclusion of the false lumen and stabilization of the aneurysm, demonstrating the potential of this alternative technique in managing complex aortic dissections when conventional treatments are judged at too high risk. An important safety consideration for topically administered drugs is the extent of systemic exposure they achieve. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether a topically administered microdose of the model drug diclofenac can predict the systemic availability, plasma, and tissue pharmacokinetics of a topical therapeutic dose. Eight healthy participants (6 men, 2 women) participated in a four-period, cross-over study. In period 1, a topical microdose (62±6 μg) was administered; in period 2, a single intravenous microdose (0.95±0.03 μg); in period 3, a topical therapeutic dose (120 mg); and in period 4, a single intravenous therapeutic dose (75 mg) of [ 14 C]diclofenac, with or without the addition of unlabeled diclofenac. Venous blood, urine, and microdialysis samples from subcutaneous adipose tissue beneath the dermal application site were collected for 24 hours post-dosing. Total 14 C-concentrations in plasma and microdialysates were quantified using accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). The disposition of intravenously administered [ 14 C]diclofenac was dose-linear. However, after topical administration, the fraction of total 14 C absorbed (geometric mean, 95% CI) was higher ( P =0.0019, two-tailed, paired t -test) for the microdose (0.48%, 0.34-0.67%) compared to the therapeutic dose (0.13%, 0.07-0.22%) (geometric mean ratio, 90% CI: 3.79, 2.41-5.98). Dose-normalized 14 C-concentrations in microdialysates were low, variable, and did not differ between doses. Our study demonstrates the feasibility of quantifying 14 C-concentrations in plasma and microdialysates following the topical administration of a microdose of [ 14 C]diclofenac. The observed non-linearity in systemic availability after topical dosing suggests that microdosing may not accurately predict the disposition of certain topical drugs at therapeutic doses. The low dielectric constant ( ε r < 15) is the key to improving the signal transmission speed of microwave communication devices. However, the resonant frequency temperature coefficient ( τ f ) of most low- ε r microwave dielectric ceramics is usually negative. Aiming to modify the large negative τ f of scheelite CaWO 4 and explore the underlying mechanism between the structure and microwave dielectric properties, a series of Ca 1– x (Li 1/2 Eu 1/2 ) x WO 4 ( x = 0.1−1.0) (CLEWO x ) ceramics were prepared at low sintering temperatures (750−875 °C). The ε r increased from 10.46 to 18.55, and the Q × f decreased from 39,032 GHz to 7425 GHz, mainly due to the enhanced rattling effect of Li + . The τ f rapidly increased from negative (–19.91×10 −6 °C −1 ) to abnormally positive (+162.15×10 −6 °C −1 ), influenced by the reduced temperature coefficient of ion polarizability ( τ αm ) caused by the rattling Li + cation. The CLEWO 0.15 sample has good comprehensive performance ( ε r = 12.28, Q×f = 28,027 GHz, and τ f = –0.5×10 −6 °C −1 ) and compatibility with the Ag electrode, showing the potential of LTCC applications. Additionally, a dielectric resonator antenna based on CLEWO 0.15 ceramic was designed with a bandwidth of 254 MHz at 4.504−4.758 GHz and a gain of 4.87 dBi at 4.62 GHz, indicating that CLEWO 0.15 may be a potential candidate for dielectric resonator antennas.

目的探讨肝癌中着丝粒蛋白f(CENPf)的表达量与细胞增殖、迁移等生物学行为的关系及其作用机制。方法比较肝癌细胞与正常肝细胞、肝癌组织与癌旁正常组织中CENPf的表达量。利用慢病毒包被的质粒转染肝癌细胞干扰CENPf的表达,分别使用MTS试剂、台盼兰染色法、transwell迁移小室方法研究CENPf的表达对细胞增殖、存活、迁移的影响,并利用Western blotting法探究其对细胞周期调控蛋白c-Myc、Cyclin D1表达的影响,明确CENPf作用机制。结果与正常肝细胞和癌旁正常组织相比,肝癌细胞和肝癌组织中CENPf蛋白表达量显著增加。使用病毒包被的质粒抑制CENPf的表达可显著降低肝癌细胞的增殖能力、存活率和迁移能力,同时调控细胞增殖和细胞周期的蛋白(c-Myc、Cyclin D1)的表达降低。结论肝癌中过表达的CENPf可通过激活细胞周期调控蛋白c-Myc和Cyclin D1,提高肝癌细胞的增殖、存活、迁移能力,诱导肝癌的发生和发展。
