In this work, a fast and facile mechanochemical approach has been used to prepare sodium vanadium fluorophosphates cathode materials with two compositions of NaVPO 4 f and Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 f 3 to compare their structure and electrochemical behavior in hybrid-ion cells. It is established that Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 f 3 is a single phase material with a tetragonal structure (the P4 2 /mnm S.G.), while NaVPO 4 f consists of Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 f 3 and some impurity phases. Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 2 f 3 shows an excellent electrochemical performance in a hybrid-ion cell with Li metal anode and Li-based electrolyte. Ex situ XRD studies and analysis of differential capacity curves point out a negligible Na + /Li + ion electrochemical exchange and the predominant sodium-based cathode reaction.

Two new C-glucosyl chromones named aloeverasides A (1) and B (2) were isolated from the resin of Commiphoragileadensis (L.) C. Chr. The structures of the two new natural products were elucidated based on 1D- (H-1- and C-13-NMR) and 2D-NMR (COSY, HSQC, and HMBC) spectroscopic techniques and mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Aloeverasides A (1) and B (2) were evaluated for their anticancer activity, and both induced a 76.4 and 70.5% growth inhibition of the breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) at a concentration of 100m. Both compounds were also evaluated for their 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl antioxidant, urease enzyme, and -glucosidase enzyme inhibition activities. Aloeverasides A (1) and B (2) displayed good urease enzyme inhibition activities (62 and 55%, resp.), as well as antioxidant activity in which aloeveraside A (1) had a value of 60% inhibition, while aloeveraside B (2) demonstrated a more potent antioxidant activity with 80% inhibition.

Objective:This study explores the immediate impact of prolonged voice use by professional sports coaches. Method:Speech samples including sustained phonation of vowel /a/ and a short read passage were collected from two professional sports coaches. The audio recordings were made within an hour before and after a coaching session, over three sessions. Perceptual evaluation of voice quality was done using the GRBAS scale. The speech samples were subsequently analyzed using Praat. The acoustic measures included fundamental frequency (f0), jitter, shimmer, Harmonics-to-Noise ratio and Cepstral Peak Prominence. Main results:The results of perceptual and acoustic analysis suggest a slight shift towards a tenser phonation post-coaching session, which is a likely consequence of laryngeal muscle adaptation to prolonged voice use. This tendency was similar in sustained vowels and connected speech. Conclusion: Acoustic measures used in this study can be useful to capture the voice change post-coaching session. It is desirable, however, that more sophisticated and robust and at the same time intuitive and easy-to-use tools for voice assessment and monitoring be made available to clinicians and professional voice users.

It has been predicted that environmental changes will radically alter the selective pressures on phenological traits. Long-lived species, such as trees, will be particularly affected, as they may need to undergo major adaptive change over only one or a few generations. The traits describing the annual life cycle of trees are generally highly evolvable, but nothing is known about the strength of their genetic correlations. Tight correlations can impose strong evolutionary constraints, potentially hampering the adaptation of multivariate phenological phenotypes. In this study, we investigated the evolutionary, genetic and environmental components of the timing of leaf unfolding and senescence within an oak metapopulation along an elevation gradient. Population divergence, estimated from insitu and common-garden data, was compared to expectations under neutral evolution, based on microsatellite markers. This approach made it possible (1) to evaluate the influence of genetic correlation on multivariate local adaptation to elevation and (2) to identify traits probably exposed to past selective pressures due to the colder climate at high elevation. The genetic correlation was positive but very weak, indicating that genetic constraints did not shape the local adaptation pattern for leaf phenology. Both spring and fall (leaf unfolding and senescence, respectively) phenology timings were involved in local adaptation, but leaf unfolding was probably the trait most exposed to climate change-induced selection. Our data indicated that genetic variation makes a much smaller contribution to adaptation than the considerable plastic variation displayed by a tree during its lifetime. The evolutionary potential of leaf phenology is, therefore, probably not the most critical aspect for short-term population survival in a changing climate.

The objective was to prospectively evaluate the application of intraoperative fluorescence imaging (IOfI) in the surgical excision of malignant masses in dogs, using a novel lipid nanoparticle contrast agent. Dogs presenting with spontaneous soft-tissue sarcoma or subcutaneous tumors were prospectively enrolled. Clinical staging and whole-body computed tomography (CT) were performed. All the dogs received an intravenous injection of dye-loaded lipid nanoparticles, LipImage 815. Wide or radical resection was realized after CT examination. Real-time IOfI was performed before skin incision and after tumor excision. In cases of radical resection, the lymph nodes (LNs) were imaged. The margin/healthy tissues fluorescence ratio or LN/healthy tissues fluorescence ratio was measured and compared with the histologic margins or LN status. Nine dogs were included. Limb amputation was performed in 3 dogs, and wide resection in 6. No adverse effect was noted. fluorescence was observed in all 9 of the tumors. The margins were clean in 5 of 6 dogs after wide surgical resection, and the margin/healthy tissues fluorescence ratio was close to 1.0 in all these dogs. Infiltrated margins were observed in 1 case, with a margin/healthy tissues fluorescence ratio of 3.2. Metastasis was confirmed in 2 of 3 LNs, associated with LN/healthy tissues fluorescence ratios of 2.1 and 4.2, whereas nonmetastatic LN was associated with a ratio of 1.0. LipImage 815 used as a contrast agent during IOfI seemed to allow for good discrimination between tumoral and healthy tissues. future studies are scheduled to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of IOfI using LipImage 815 as a tracer.

Background and Aims: for more than 4 decades endoscopists have relied on ulcer stigmata for risk stratification and as a guide to hemostasis. None used arterial blood flow underneath stigmata to predict outcomes. for patients with severe peptic ulcer bleeding (PUB), we used a Doppler endoscopic probe (DEP) for (1) detection of blood flow underlying stigmata of recent hemorrhage (SRH), (2) quantitating rates of residual arterial blood flow under SRH after visually directed standard endoscopic treatment, and (3) comparing risks of rebleeding and actual 30-day rebleed rates for spurting arterial bleeding (forrest [f] IA) and oozing bleeding (f IB). Methods: Prospective cohort study of 163 consecutive patients with severe PUB and different SRH. Results: All blood flow detected by the DEP was arterial. Detection rates were 87.4% in major SRH-spurting arterial bleeding (f IA), non-bleeding visible vessel (f IIA), clot (f IIB)-and were significantly lower at 42.3% (P <.0001) for an intermediate group of oozing bleeding (f IB) or flat spot (f IIC). for spurting bleeding (f IA) versus oozing (f IB), baseline DEP arterial flow was 100% versus 46.7%, residual blood flow detected after endoscopic hemostasis was 35.7% versus 0%, and 30-day rebleed rates were 28.6% versus 0% (all P <.05). Conclusions: (1) for major SRH versus oozing or spot, the arterial blood flow detection rate by the DEP was significantly higher, indicating a higher rebleed risk. (2) Before and after endoscopic treatment, spurting (f IA) PUB had significantly higher rates of blood flow detection than oozing (f IB) PUB and a significantly higher 30-day rebleed rate. (3) The DEP is recommended as a new endoscopic guide with SRH to improve risk stratification and potentially definitive hemostasis for PUB.
