from a social-scientific perspective, this paper addresses an overlooked dimension of material poverty, namely spiritual poverty or the lack of spiritual sensitivity, and calls it a psychological disorder. Religions link deep spirituality with a kind of "poverty," namely simplicity of lifestyle and generosity toward the needy;but none advocates the poverty of outright destitution. A fully psychological "spiritualogy"-built on Bernard Lonergan's analysis of human consciousness or spirit and consonant with the humanistic psychology of Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow and current psychotherapeutic understanding-explains the link between spirituality and poverty as a matter of personal integration and suggests interventions to address the corrosive epidemic soul sickness of the postmodern world, so different from traditional societies in which religion and culture intertwined and functioned effectively.

Soft-rot of ginger (Zingiber officinale) is the most important disease usually caused by fusarium oxysporum (f. oxysporum) leading to significant yield loss. In this study, chitosan, copper and sulphur nanoparticles synthesised from leaf extract of selected plants were screened against two isolates off. oxysporum recovered from the infected rhizome of ginger and soil samples. Moreover, among these, sulphur nanoparticles showed maximum inhibition off. oxysporum isolated from soil samples (ZOI=12.33mm) followed by copper (ZOI=>12mm) and chitosan nanoparticles (ZOI=>9mm). Similarly, in the case off. oxysporum isolated from infected ginger, sulphur nanoparticles showed maximum inhibition (ZOI=13.33) as compared to copper (ZOI=>11mm) and chitosan nanoparticles (ZOI=>9mm). Considering the high efficacy, sulphur nanoparticles were further evaluated in combination with commercial fungicides, viz., bavistin, ridomil gold, sunflex and streptocycline. The combination of sulphur nanoparticles with bavistin demonstrated maximum inhibition (ZOI=45.16mm, MIC -20 mu g/ml), whereas the minimum inhibition was shown by its combination with ridomil gold (ZOI=10.5mm, MIC -40 mu g/ml). Therefore, it can be concluded that the combination of sulphur nanoparticles with bavistin can be used for effective and eco-friendly management off. oxysporum causing soft-rot of ginger.

Three stochastic sensors based on modified nanocarbon paste (nC), nanographene paste (nGr), and reduced graphene oxide paste (rGOx) with 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) were proposed for the pattern recognition of bisphenols A (BPA), f (BPf), and Z (BPZ) in waste water samples. The linear concentration ranges recorded were: for BPA between 1fmol/L and 10 mu mol/L, for BPf between 10fmol/L and 1 mu mol/L, and for BPZ between 10fmol/L and 0.1mmol/L. The lowest limits of determination for each bisphenol were as following: 1fmol/L for BPA when the stochastic sensor based on nC was used, 10fmol/L for BPf when the stochastic sensors based on nC, nGr, and rGOx were used, and for BPZ 10gmol/L when the sensor based on nGr was used. The recoveries of the BPA, BPf, and BPZ were higher than 98.00% with relative standard deviation less than 0.20% (N = 10). (C) 2019 The Electrochemical Society.

In order to reduce the calculation effort during the simulation of the emission of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and furans (PCDD/f) during municipal solid waste incineration, minimizing the number of simulated components is mandatory. for this purpose, two new multilinear regression models capable of determining the dioxins total amount and toxicity of an atmospheric emission have been adjusted based on previously published ones. The new source of data used (almost 200 PCDD/f analyses) provides a wider range of application to the models, increasing also the diversity of the emission sources, from industrial and laboratory scale thermal processes. Only three of the 17 toxic congeners (1,2,3,6,7,8-HxCDD, 2,3,7,8-TCDf and OCDf), whose formation was found to be linearly independent, were necessary as inputs for the models. All model parameters have been statistically validated and their confidence intervals have been calculated using the Bootstrap method. The resulting coefficients of determination (R-2) for the models are 0.9711 +/- 0.0056 and 0.9583 +/- 0.0085;its root mean square errors (RMSE) are 0.2115 and 0.2424, and its mean absolute errors (MAE) are 0.1541 and 0.1733 respectively.

Vitamin K antagonist rodenticide pharmacodynamics (PD) is studied in rodents with traditional laboratory tests. We wondered if thrombin generation test (TGT) could add value. Difethialone (10 mg/kg) was administered per os to 97 OfA-Sprague Dawley rats. PD was studied over a 72 h-period using the Calibrated Automated Thrombogram on platelet poor plasma before and after intoxication (3 female and 3 male rats for each 13 time points) and TGT parameters were compared with the prothrombin time (PT) and vitamin K dependent factor activities previously reported. following intoxication, preliminary tests evidenced rapid and full inhibition of thrombin generation triggered with 5 or 20 pM human recombinant tissue factor. To study the evolution of TGT parameters following difethialone intake, we adapted the test by complementing intoxicated rat samples with pooled normal rat plasma (3/1, v/v). Adapted TGT confirmed the known higher procoagulant basal level in females compared to males through higher endogenous thrombin potential (ETP) and peak height (PH) (p < 0.0001 and p = 0.0003, respectively). An exponential model fitted well the PH and ETP decay after intoxication. In contrast to PT, the decreases were observed immediately following VKA intake and had comparable time to halving values: 10.5 h (95% CI [8.2;13.6]) for ETP and 10.4 h (95% CI [7.8;14.1]) for PH. The decrease offVII and fX preceded that of PH, ETP and fII while fIX decreased later on, contributing to the severe hypo-coagulability. We demonstrated that TGT performed in samples of intoxicated rats complemented with normal plasma is a reliable tool for evaluation of VKA rodenticide PD in rats.

To solve the problem of mistake recognition among rice diseases, automatic recognition methods based on BP(back propagation) neural network were studied in this paper for blast, sheath blight and bacterial blight. Chose mobile terminal equipment as image collecting tool and built database of rice leaf images with diseases under threshold segmentation method. Characteristic parameters were extracted from color, shape and texture. furthermore, parameters were optimized using the single-factor variance analysis and the effects of BP neural network model. The optimization would simplify BP neural network model without reducing the recognition accuracy. The finally model could successfully recognize 98%, 96% and 98% of rice blast, sheath blight and white leaf blight, respectively.

Purpose: To determine size of ablation zone and pulmonary hemorrhage in double-freeze (Df) vs modified triple-freeze (mTf) cryoablation protocols with different probe sizes in porcine lung. Materials and Methods: In 10 healthy adult pigs, 20 pulmonary cryoablations were performed using either a 2.4-mm or a 1.7-mm probe. Either conventional Df or mTf protocol was used. Serial noncontrast CT scans were performed during ablations. Ablation iceball and hemorrhage volumes were measured and compared between protocols and probe sizes. Results: With 1.7-mm probe, greater peak iceball volume was observed with Df compared with mTf, although difference was not statistically significant (16.1 mL +/- 1.9 vs 8.8 mL +/- 3.6, P = .07). With 2.4-mm probe, Df and mTf produced similar peak iceball volumes (14.0 mL +/- 2.8 vs 14.6 mL +/- 2.7, P = .88). Midcycle hemorrhage was significantly larger with Df with the 1.7-mm probe (94.3 mL +/- 22.2 vs 19.6 mL +/- 2.1, P = .02) and with both sizes combined (93.2 mL +/- 17.5 vs. 50.9 mL +/- 12.6, P = .048). Rate of hemorrhage increase was significantly higher in Df (10.4 mL/min vs 5.1 mL/min, P = .003). End-cycle hemorrhage was visibly larger in Df compared with mTf across probe sizes, although differences were not statistically significant (P = .14 for 1.7 mm probe, P = .18 for 2.4 mm probe, and P = .07 for both probes combined). Rate of increase in hemorrhage during the last thaw period was not statistically different between Df and mTf (3.0 mL/min vs 2.8 mL/min, P = .992). Conclusions: mTf reduced rate of midcycle hemorrhage compared with Df. With mTf, midcycle hemorrhage was significantly smaller with 1.7-mm probe;although noticeably smaller with 2.4-mm probe, statistical significance was not achieved. Iceball size was not significantly different across both protocols and probe types.
