Computation played an enabling role in the birth of modern NMR spectroscopy, when Ernst and Anderson proposed using the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) to compute the spectrum from measurements of the free induction decay FID). In retrospect their proposal for speeding up NMR was even more audacious than it appeared at the time, because they were unaware of the nearly contemporaneous publication of the Cooley-Tukey fast Fourier transform algorithm (personal communication from R. Ernst to J. H.). With the proposal by Jeener to parametrically sample indirect time dimensions by recording multiple FIDs, the role of computation for obtaining multidimensional spectra was even more firmly entrenched. Invention followed necessity as the ability to resolve individual resonances for complex biomacromolecules that was enabled by multidimensional experiments led to the development of software for computer visualization and analysis of complicated spectra. Systematic use of nuclear Overhauser effects for solving the three-dimensional structure of a protein relied on software for optimizing the fit to an underdetermined set of distance restraints. Richard Ernst summarized the impact of computation in bio-NMR most succinctly in the title of his opening lecture at a 1990 NATO Advanced Research Workshop: ‘‘Without Computers, No Biological NMR’’. In the proceedings volume, he would broaden this assertion to ‘‘No Modern NMR’’ (Ernst 1991).

The vibration characteristics of the tendon-based parallel robot for processing are presented. Firstly, the free vibration equations of the robot on the stable position and orientation were modeled, and secondly the natural frequencies were deduced from the transformation of principal coordinates into modal coordinates. Next, cutting-force model was introduced and the solutions of the forced vibration equations were obtained from the Runge-Kutta method, where the minimum natural frequency was taken as basis of the time step that was important for computation convergence. Lastly, the algorithm was verified by simulations, also including solution transformation of time domain into frequency domain by Fast Fourier Transformation (fft). The vibration properties could be manifested clearly by the solutions in frequency domain. The results show that the eccentricity and the mass of the moving platform are the important factors to make system instable in certain excitation frequency.

In recent past, we developed 4 x 8 and 4 x 1 6 processing element (PE) template-based Coarse-Grain Reconfigurable Arrays (CGRAs) and mapped different length and type of Fast Fourier Transform (fft) algorithms on them. In this paper, we have considered radix-4 and radix-(2, 4) fft accelerators which were generated from 4 x 8 and 4 x 1 6 PE CGRA templates respectively. We estimated their power and energy consumption while radix-4 accelerator was processing 64 and 1024 points and radix-(2, 4) accelerator was processing 64 and 128 points of fft algorithms. The power consumption was estimated by timing simulation of postfit gate-level netlist of both of the accelerators for a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) used as target platform. Based on the measurements, we have compared both of the accelerators for their power and energy consumption.

This paper proposes an electronic system to combat drifting and traffic noises in the urban area of Saudi Arabia. The proposed solution can be integrated into a smart city platform. The system comprises a sound processing hardware, a CCTV camera, and a GPRS module for wireless IP access. An algorithm to address drifting for noise and accidents is derived and tested over a range of audible traffic noises in Sakakah town. Hardware implementation of the algorithm using Radix-8, 64-point fft algorithm, and a semiconductor intellectual property is elaborated. The results show that the algorithm produces no false alarm.

A fault diagnosis technique for gear-box that uses a Wavelet-AR model spectrum estimation method is presented in this paper. In the experimental work, the wavelet transform was used for original signal decomposition and de-noising to obtain fault signals, and the fault type was confirmed using AR model spectrum estimation method for gearbox fault signal diagnosis. The experimental results indicated that the proposed wavelet-AR model spectrum estimation method, compared with fft algorithm, is effective in fault signal diagnosis for gearbox.

This paper presents metal oxide arresters (MOA) resistive current on-line monitoring and expert diagnosis system. The system combined the harmonic analysis method and the compensation method to measure the MOA resistive current. The on-line monitoring system used MAX11046 for signal AID conversion and TMS320F2812 DSP for data processing. It used EEC 60870-5-103 protocol to upload the data to the expert diagnosis system through the RS-485 bus. Based on the real-time monitoring data, the historical data and the environmental parameters, the expert diagnosis system can analyze and judge the MOA status. The system adopted many anti-jamming measures to make the measurement data stable and accurate. The results show that the resistive current of the 35KV MOA fluctuates based on 20 mu A.

OMAP3530 is a Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) device which integrates ARM Cortex-A8, C64x+, Graphics Accelerator and various peripherals, it's designed to meet mobile multimedia applications so it is a good solution for a spectrum analyzer implementation. In this paper is presented a spectrum analyzer instrument implementation based on OMAP3530 architecture, using fft algorithm. The fft algorithm is implemented on DSP and the user interface is implemented on ARM and Linux OS. DSP/BIOS Link, library for the inter-processor communication across the ARM-DSP boundary is used This instrument could be a good solution for vibration analyses using an accelerator sensor, sound or any other periodical input signal. To test this spectrum analyzer instrument during the application development a sound wave was used as input signal. On the ARM side a Linux OS is used, which ensure a proper solution for user interfaces (S-Video, DVI, LCD, touch screen) and interconnections (UART, USB, Ethernet).

As well known, the shape of 3D terrain is one of intricate features in nature. Is there a relationship between flight route and 3D terrain? In this paper, we concentrately reveal this relationship and attempt to apply it to route planning, presenting a new approach of 3D route planning. Through the experiments in a natural 3D terrain map, it is concluded that this approach is efficient and very fast.
