Most(1) fpga applications in control systems are used for single devices and equipment, or auxiliary processing systems. Because fpga operation has the characteristics of unchangeable operating logic, it possesses higher security and reliability than Programmable Logic controller (PLC). The objects of the ground test and launch control system are much complex in space launch site, the fpga-based controller can achieve higher usage requirements. On the basis of analyzing the model and working pattern of the control system, the architecture and the concrete implementation scheme are proposed to develop the fpga-based core controller that is similar to PLC. The fpga-based controller consists of General Logic Module (GLM), backplane and Rear Transport Module (RTM). GLM consists of three parts. The first part is fpga chip composed of two functions, i.e. one function mainly completes the general logic, and another is applied to implement the user custom functions. The second part is that universal carrier board connects fpga chip to I/O interfaces. The third part is multiple types of I/O interfaces. The backplane provides slots for GLM connector cascaded multiple GLMs with the same or different functions. RTM serves as an interface between GLM and field input/output signals. A prototype controller has been developed according to the proposed architecture. It has reached the corresponding technical specifications and verified the feasibility of the technical scheme in the paper.

To develop an fpga-based controller, we proposed the architecture and implementation schemes for the controller and determined the technical indexes for the design. The schemes include the board layout and design of the logic daughter card for the architecture of the fpga-based controller. To improve reliability, self-diagnosis and self-protection circuits are included in the controller design. The data communication design mainly consists of backplane serial data communication, a 422/485 serial data communication daughter card, and an I/O daughter card. We developed a prototype controller and established a propellant loading prototype control system for a space launch site. Experimental results show that the performance of the designed fpga-based controller meets the major technical indexes. The controller is then compared with existing PLCs. The comparison shows that the fpga-based controller has higher reliability, faster response time, and better performance. (C) 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

This paper presents a short state-of-the-art Field Programmable Gate Array (fpga) technology. An efficient design methodology for designing fpga-based controllers is also described. To illustrate the interest of this methodology, a complex sensorless algorithm for AC drives has been chosen. It consists in an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), which is most of the time implemented in a DSP controller. In the last part of the paper, authors try to demonstrate all the benefits of using fpgas for power electronic and drive applications. Two cases are discussed, the high demanding applications and the constrained switching frequency applications.

This paper presents a comparison between a standard fpga-based controller and a full fpga-based controller for electrical systems. The first controller uses a standard low cost fpga such as Xilinx Spartan and the second one uses an Actel Fusion fpga which integrates all the peripherals required for these kinds of applications. The purpose here, is to analyze in details the potential benefits offered by this last solution compared to the first one. To this purpose, a current control algorithm for AC drives has been implemented on both targets. This comparison concerns the design methodology (evaluation of the reusability of designs), the time/area performances and also the quality of the system control.

Active zero voltage switching tracking controller design for class E inverter to counteract the resonant components shifting

On the basis of zero voltage switching (ZVS) operation, the class E resonant converter provides excellent conversion efficiency even though it works on high frequency. Unfortunately, the ZVS operation is sensitive to the circuit situations. While the circuit components are shifting, the ZVS working will drift around the dominant point and it may fail to work on ZVS. In this study, an active ZVS tracking control method is proposed to cope with the circuit components shifting. On the basis of an exact analysis of the ZVS operation conditions, first a searching procedure is proposed to decide the optimal switching frequency. Next, through the current phase feedback, the active ZVS tracking controller is built to retain the circuit works on optimum ZVS operation by adaptively tuning the switching frequency to counteract the components shifting. In addition to the theoretical analysis and computer simulation, the proposed tracking controller has been applied to implement a 1.3 MHz class E inverter with a field-programmable gate array (fpga)-based controller.

Simple and friendly operation panel, intelligent algorithm, high performance control and driving circuit and precision and reliable plant are the necessary conditions for music playing robot design. In this paper, a hierarchical control structure, host controller (PC) and local controller (fpga), is proposed to implement the anthropomorphic piano robot control with parallel controlling of two hands and ten fingers. In order to simplify the programming on the host controller and increase the performance of the whole system, the actuators of the hands (linear motors) and fingers (servo motors) are controlled and driving by local controllers, the fpga-based controllers. The host PC is in charge of to integrate and encode the music codes of playing music to command the robot via the local controller, namely fpga controller or distributed control module. The host controller is programmed with an intelligent algorithm to generate the music control code and an interactive man-machine interface. Giving a music score, the intelligent algorithm will generate a series of optimum positions commands for the hands and fingers of the piano robot to play the piano. The series of optimum positions commands are programmed with crashing protection and minimum movement for the hands and fingers to anthropomorphize the robot. After the codes receiving, the local controller will quick decode the commanding such as the position of two hands, opening angle of ten fingers and key rapping of ten fingers to control the driving circuits of actuators of the hands and fingers.

Solutions based on field programmable gate array (fpga) technology have gained relevance in industrial applications for position and speed control of electrical actuators. However, fpga-based controllers have a broad scope of applications using pneumatic components such as the development of robotic manipulators with pneumatic actuators. The novelty of this work is the implementation of a pneumatic PD control embedded into an fpga, which is applied to move a one-degree-of-freedom robot manipulator. As a result, a PD control embedded in fpga was used to control the pneumatic actuator manipulator with satisfactory behaviour.

In this paper, a force controller design is considered for the fingers of the piano playing robot with a gain switched controller. Music playing robot is one kind of the service robots. In addition to playing music with the score, for a service robot, the robot, can play sweet sounds. In order to play a melodious music sound like musician, besides the robot can play the right note and right rhythm, the punching force of the fingers are controlled just right while the robot playing. In the proposed system, the finger is driven by a cylindrical linear motor. To play sounds of light, heavy, slow and anxious, the punching force of the finger is tuned according to the music score by controlling the cylindrical linear motor. Considering the playing requirements and load characteristics, the force controller is designed by a gain switchable controller to achieve the functions of force controllable and fast response. Also, the sound spectrum analysis is applied to analyze the quality of the robot's playing for the key punching and the force controlling in the viewpoint of frequency domain. based on the sound spectrum analysis for a musician playing, the force controller of the finger is designed to lead the robot playing is closing to human playing. Through the fpgabased implementation, each finger of the robot owns its independent control loop with parallel control structure designing to get the finger's action rapidly and precisely. From the experiments of the prototype, the results have given the verification about the practical control method and the realizable implementation.

In this paper, a motion control module design is considered for multi actuator control system with parallel control capability. And, the control module is implemented to a music playing robot. This robot control system with parallel controlling of two hands and ten fingers is implemented by a hierarchical control structure, i.e. host controller (PC-based) and local controller (fpga-based), to achieve the anthropomorphic piano robot control. The host controller is in charge of the whole system integration and the music codes encoding of playing music to command the robot via the target controller. The target controller, or called local controller or distributed control module, actually performs the close loop control task of each actuator while it receives the command code. The palms of the robot are driving by a PM linear motor that consists with two movers in a common track stator and they are controlled by the target controller directly. In this paper, we will focus on the fpga-based controllers design use a practical technique including the velocity and position control loops design for the anthropomorphic piano robot. With some experiments of hard ware in the loop, the control gain can be calculated easily in S-domain and digitizing to Z-domain for fpga-based controller implementing. The control modules have been applied to control the anthropomorphic piano robot successfully. The results of experiment have given verification about the practical controller design method and the hierarchical control structure.
