It is well accepted that lower hybrid current drive （LHCD） is the most efficient method for non-inductive current drive in fusion devices and the effect of the current drive is dependent on not only microwave power but also its grill phase shift. This paper presents a new kind of feedback control system for antenna phase difference in LHCD experiments. In this highspeed control system, a lot of new technologies and methods are incorporated. The results of the experiments show a very good agreement with the system design.

Neutral particle analyzer with feedback control system on HT-7 tokamak

A neutral particle analyzer (NPA) employing a scanning mode and feedback control technique was developed and installed on the HT-7 tokamak. A horizontal view is used to measure ion temperature profiles. The spatial resolution is about 2 cm shot-by-shot. The performance of analyzer is improved greatly by employing feedback control system. The constructing of analyzer, data acquisition and the technique of feedback control are described. Preliminary measurement results in ohmic heated plasmas and lower-hybrid current drive plasmas are presented and simulated by Monte-Carlo code. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Stability analysis in machining process by using adaptive closed-loop feedback control system in turning process

The study presents model-based mechanism of nonlinear cutting tool vibration in turning process and the strategy of improving cutting process stability by suppressing machine tool vibration. The approach used is based on the closed-loop feedback control system with the help of electro-magneto-rheological damper. A machine tool vibration signal generated by an accelerometer is fed back to the coil of a damper after suitable amplification. The damper, attached under the tool holder, generates counter forces to suppress the vibration after being excited by the signal in terms of current. The study also discusses the use of transfer function approach for the development of a mathematical model and adaptively controlling the process dynamics of the turning process. The purpose of developing such mechanism is to stabilize the machining process with respect to the dynamic uncut chip thickness responsible for the type-II regenerative effect. The state-space model used in this study successfully checked the adequacy of the model through controllability and observability matrices. The eigenvalue and eigenvector have confirmed the stability of the system more accurately. The characteristic of the stability lobe chart is discussed for the present model-based mechanism.

Designing a stable feedback control system for blind image deconvolution

Blind image deconvolution is one of the main low-level vision problems with wide applications. Many previous works manually design regularization to simultaneously estimate the latent sharp image and the blur kernel under maximum a posterior framework. However, it has been demonstrated that such joint estimation strategies may lead to the undesired trivial solution. In this paper, we present a novel perspective, using a stable feedback control system, to simulate the latent sharp image propagation. The controller of our system consists of regularization and guidance, which decide the sparsity and sharp features of latent image, respectively. Furthermore, the formational model of blind image is introduced into the feedback process to avoid the image restoration deviating from the stable point. The stability analysis of the system indicates the latent image propagation in blind deconvolution task can be efficiently estimated and controlled by cues and priors. Thus the kernel estimation used for image restoration becomes more precision. Experimental results show that our system is effective on image propagation, and can perform favorably against the state-of-the-art blind image deconvolution methods on different benchmark image sets and special blurred images. Optimization of Taguchi's on-line quality feedback control system

A feedback control system for quality characteristics is one of the most crucial components in Taguchi's on-line quality management. In this article, three problems in Taguchi's on-line quality feedback control system are discussed. Furthermore, countermeasures for improving the system are proposed. First, the quality loss of products that are out of control is reestimated by approximating the probability density of their quality characteristic value to a linear distribution. Second, the quality loss of products that are under control is reestimated by approximating the probability density of their quality characteristic value to a normal distribution. Third, the decreased profit resulting from a process shutdown, which is excluded in Taguchi's on-line quality feedback control system, is considered in calculating the adjustment cost. The management cost and quality loss constitute the total quality cost. In the improved on-line quality feedback control system, the optimal measurement interval and optimal administrative boundary are calculated by minimizing the total quality cost using an iterative method. An example of the adjustment of the administrative boundary and the measurement interval for manufacturing automobile parts is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the improved on-line system.

A general platform is introduced to study the dynamics of power systems with high voltage dc (HVDC) transmission links. Small-signal stability, voltage stability, and interaction phenomena of power systems with both line-commutated-converter HVDC (LCC-HVDC) and voltage-source-converter HVDC (VSC-HVDC) are addressed using the proposed platform. In this platform, the entire power system is modeled as a multivariable feedback control system (FCS) which consists of three interconnected blocks. The contents as well as the inputs and outputs of the blocks are selected such that the conventional analysis tools for power system stability are applicable, both in the time and frequency domains. In the FCS model, the relationships between different instabilities are clear, and participant agents of each instability can be determined. The model is developed in a modular and hybrid style, to make it feasible for a large power system. The proposed model is validated against an electromagnetic transient simulation program (PSCAD) using time responses.

A straightforward algorithm has been presented for generating the state trajectories for a feedback control system. The algorithm is computationally efficient in that no numerical integration is required and simple recursion relationships generate the desired solution at discrete times. Furthermore, this algorithm has significant potential if used in conjunction with algorithms which attempt to enhance system robustness by iteratively refining the weighting matrices appearing in the performance index. 15 refs.

Alternative secondary structures can be predicted for the initial 94 nucleotides synthesized from the major transcription initiation site of SV40 late RNA: a transcription-termination conformation results in the production of aborted RNA and a readthrough conformation leads to the synthesis of the primary SV40 late RNA. In the cytoplasm similar alternative conformations can be predicted for the initial nucleotides at the 5′ ends of both the major 16S and 19S late mRNAs. In one of these alternative conformations the AUG initiation codon of the leader protein (agnoprotein) is sequestered and not available for ribosome binding. In the alternative conformation the same AUG is accessible for ribosome binding. We suggest that these mutually exclusive conformations are fundamental elements in a transcription and translation feedback control mechanism regulating the synthesis of 16S and 19S mRNA in the nucleus and the translation of their encoded proteins in the cytoplasm.

Real-world application of a discrete feedback control system for flexible biogas production

Using renewable energy is increasingly prevalent as part of a global effort to safeguard the environment, with a reduction in CO2 being one of the primary objectives. A biogas plant provides an opportunity to produce green energy, but its profitability prevents it from being utilized more frequently. A suitable response to this economic issue would be flexible biogas production to exploit fluctuating energy prices. Nevertheless, the complex nature of the anaerobic digestion process that proceeds within the biogas plant and the wide range of substrates that may be utilized as the plant's feeds make it challenging to achieve flexible biogas production truly. Most plant operators will rely on their experience and intuition to run the plant without knowing exactly how much biogas they will produce with the feed substrate. This work combines a system model estimation and feedback controller to provide an intuitive yet precise feedback control system. The system model estimation represents the biogas plant mathematically, and a total of six distinct approaches have been compared and evaluated. A PT1 model most accurately approximated the step-down and the step-up by the time percentage method, with the Akaike Information Criterion as the primary evaluation criterion for selecting the best model. The downward model was controlled by a discrete PI controller modified with the Root Locus Method and an Anti-Windup scheme, and the upward model was controlled by a state space controller. The quality of the controller was evaluated in both simulation and at the actual biogas plant in Grub, and the controller was able to reduce the biogas production rate approaching the setpoint in the expected period. Furthermore, the developed feedback control system is effortless enough to be installed in many biogas plants.

Robotic technology is rapidly developed. One type of robots commonly used in industry scale is a robotic manipulator or a robot arm. In this paper, a prototype of 2-DOF robot arm is designed by using Solidworks and built. The joints are driven by permanent magnet DC motor coupled with encoders. The prototype is controlled by feedback control system with PID controller that was obtained by parameter estimation and PID tuning and has been tested by the RAPCON platform with MATLAB-Simulink The tracking results are the responses at different reference input. First, at 60 and 90 degree reference input, both motors respond over the reference input with maximum overshoot less than 21 degree of maximum overshoots, rise time does not exceed 2 second and steady-state errors range from 14% to 21% Second at 15 or 30 degree reference input, both motors were unable to reach the reference input and had steady-state errors range from 20% to 25% The error occurs because of the friction of worm gearbox and the control of armature voltage.
