Using Taguchi-fibonacci search method to optimize phase change materials enhanced buildings with integrated solar photovoltaic thermal collectors

This paper presents optimization of PCMs (phase change materials) enhanced buildings with integrated air-based solar PVT (photovoltaic thermal) collectors, where PCMs are embedded into building envelopes to increase local thermal mass, while the heated air from PVT collectors is directly used for space heating. The objective of the optimization is to maximize the S/N (Signal-to-Noise) ratio of LIFE (Coefficient of Thermal Performance Enhancement) of buildings. The factors optimized are the PVT air flow rate, PCM type, PCM layer thickness and additional wall insulation. Taguchi-fibonacci search method integrating Taguchi method and fibonacci search method is developed to solve this optimization problem with continuous and discrete variables. Analysis of Variance is used to determine the percentage contribution of each optimization factor. The simulation results based on a typical Australian house showed that the optimal PVT air flow rate, additional wall insulation, optimal PCM type among the PCMs studied and PCM layer thickness in the search ranges defined were 1640.4 kg/h, 3.0 m(2) K/W, SP21E PCM and 30 mm, respectively. Compared to the results without optimization, the CTPEs of the house improved from 45.54 to 72.22%. Taguchi-fibonacci search method can be useful for solving multi-dimensional design optimization problems with both discrete and continuous variables. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper deals with maximizing coefficient of performance (COP) of R744 automotive heat pump. A high-side pressure variation is possible during transcritical operation employing low pressure receiver and electronic expansion valve (EXV). The optimal high-side pressure is then determined using fibonacci search method. This approach is one of possible methods of online high-side pressure control and it has significant advantages over the offline methods.

One of the most serious problems of water resources development planning is the lack of acceptable procedures to deal with conflicts among different purposes at the early conceptual planning stage of any water resources system. As far as the consideration of formulating planning strategies is concerned, a new interactive multi-objective decision making (MODM) is approach, the search beam method (SBM) has been conceived. This model is expected to provide a reliable systematic procedure to search for the nondominated solutions along prespecified lines representing hypothetical search beams (SB) in the objective space. The proposed SBM consists of two major parts, an optimization phase and a subsequent evaluation phase. Incremental dynamic programming (IDP), one of the best known approximative techniques of dynamic programming (DP), is applied in the optimization phase. The 'modified fibonacci search' is heuristically used to seek, in a successive search for the intersection with the Pareto optimal surface along each SB. The viability of the SBM is demonstrated by applying it to an existing single unit reservoir system. This reservoir is assumed to accommodate two conflicting objectives: maximizing hydropower generation and maximizing water surface elevation to sustain accessibility of the navigation structures and to enable low head pumping of irrigation water. © 1990 Kluwer Academic Publishers.

Active road noise control (ARNC) emerges as a promising solution for reducing vehicle interior road noise, owing to its efficacy in controlling low-frequency noise. However, the feedforward ARNC system demands numerous reference signals to achieve notable control, leading to a significant computational burden. To address this, the adjoint least mean square (ALMS) algorithm might be a viable alternative due to its lower computational intensity, especially in multichannel scenarios. Nevertheless, factors such as the spectral distribution of reference signals and complex acoustic paths with multi-modal responses may impact its convergence performance. This paper introduces a time-frequency-domain ALMS (TFD-ALMS) algorithm, where weight vectors are updated in the frequency domain, allowing for individualized step size settings for each frequency point, thereby enhancing convergence performance. Additionally, the time-reversed estimated secondary paths with magnitude equalization are constructed to mitigate the adverse impact of the magnitude-frequency response of the acoustic paths. Simulations are conducted to assess the performance of the TFD-ALMS algorithm, accompanied by discussions on the potential for the algorithm to converge to a biased solution due to the proposed step size setting. Moreover, the influence of the reference signal delay on the convergence speed is examined in a broader context. Consequently, a strategy for determining the fastest convergence step size, based on the fibonacci search method, is proposed to aid in studying the convergence performance of the algorithm when dealing with narrowband and broadband noises of varying frequencies or bandwidths. Finally, the proposed algorithm is validated through ARNC tests under steady-state and unsteady-state working conditions. Results illustrate its capability to achieve superior control performance with reduced computational complexity compared to conventional methods.

On-line efficiency optimization of a synchronous reluctance motor

This paper deals with an on-line optimum-efficiency control of a synchronous reluctance motor drive. The input power minimization control is implemented with a search controller using fibonacci search algorithm. It searches the optimal reference value of the d-axis stator current for which the input power is minimum. The input power is calculated from the measured dc-bus current and dc-bus voltage of the inverter. A rotor-oriented vector control of the synchronous reluctance machine with the optimization efficiency controller is achieved with a DSP board (TMS302C31). Experimental results are presented to validate the proposed control methods. It is shown that stability problems can appear during the search process. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A Novel methodology for Reducing Excessive Reactive Power Consumption Penalties for Photovoltaic Prosumers

The present paper proposes a new methodology to solve a problem in the literature in which a consumer becomes eligible for reactive power excess charging (RPEC) after installing a photovoltaic (PV) system, even if its reactive demand has not changed. This problem mainly affects this kind of consumer, which is known as PV prosumers, in countries where the power factor at the point of common coupling (PCC) is used as the main parameter in calculating reactive power excess charges instead of directly pricing the surplus reactive energy delivered from the distribution network. The classical approaches to reducing or eliminating RPEC are based on providing reactive power within the consumer's installations from their PV inverters and their capacitor banks. However, the solutions presented require optimization studies since the costs of producing reactive energy can be even higher than the penalties involved. In this context, we developed a new hourly-based optimization model for the RPEC problem based on the variable neighborhood search meta-heuristic and the fibonacci search method. In addition, we apply the proposed methodology to two medium voltage prosumers in Santo Andr & eacute;, Brazil. The results showed the proposal's effectiveness, mitigating RPEC and minimizing the prosumers' electricity bills without installing new equipment to supply their reactive demand. The best results were found when reactive power was delivered by the capacitor bank and PV inverters simultaneously rather than applying these solutions separately. The proposed hourly-based correction method can help in day-ahead energy management, avoiding premature wear from switching the consumer's reactive power compensation equipment switches. Also, the methodology proposal improved the power factor at the utility substation, which benefits the power distribution systems.

Active Distribution Networks (ADN) are defined as distribution networks with presence of Distributed Energy Resources (DER). In this paper, a Fault Location (FL) analytical methodology for active distribution networks is presented. The proposed technique combines the minimum fault reactance concept and a fibonacci search method to estimate the fault location. Synchronized current phasors provided by Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED) located at the DER units are considered. A ladder-based technique is proposed and used to estimate the current contribution of each DER to the fault point. Proposed analytical methodology is applicable for all DER types without need to know its individual parameters and model. Validation is made using the IEEE 34-nodes test feeder. Test feeder is modeled using ATP/EMTP software and modified with the addition of several DER. Test results show the robustness of the methodology, indicating its potential for real-life applications. One day ahead wind speed forecasting: A resampling-based approach

Wind speed forecasting plays a vital role in dispatch planning and operational security for wind farms, however, its difficulty is commonly accepted. This paper develops a nonlinear autoregressive (exogenous) model for one-day-ahead mean hourly wind speed forecasting, where general regression neural network is employed to model nonlinearities of the system. Specifically, this model is a two-stage method consisting of the model selection and training stage along with the iterative forecasting and correcting stage. In the former stage, the model is in the series-parallel configuration, and its test error is estimated by the cross-validation (CV) method. With the help of ARIMA identification results, CV errors are minimized by the fibonacci search method to select the best lag structure and the only adjustable parameter. In the latter stage, the model is in the parallel configuration, and the so-called leave-one-day-out resampling method is proposed to iteratively estimate correction parameters for horizons up to 24 h ahead, which holds out each full-day data segment from the sample of observations in turn to faithfully reproduce the entire process of training, iterative forecasting and correcting in the in-sample period. Finally, the out-of-sample corrected forecasts can be successively obtained by using the model selected and trained in the former stage and the correction parameters estimated in the latter stage. Furthermore, effectiveness of this model is verified with four real-world case studies of two wind farms in China. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In order to discuss the relationship between truss string structure weight and the rise, so as to find out the optimal rise of different spans, fibonacci search method is used to write truss string structure optimization program which takes the rise as variable. To effectively improve search efficiency and ensure the accuracy, the dynamic search interval is introduced when writing the fibonacci search program. This paper use fibonacci to search the optimal rise in span of 100m of truss string structure, meanwhile analysis the dynamic search interval, the analysis results show that the approximate solutions of this method is very approximate to exact solutions, and search efficiency is improved.
