A method to control the output current of a three-phase grid-tied inverter is presented. An LCL-filter is used to reduce the current distortion injected into the grid. The objective is to minimise current distortion and switching frequency to reduce losses. The control approach is based on finite control set model predictive control with sphere decoding to make the problem computationally tractable for long horizons. A mathematical model was derived that extends on previous work by incorporating the effect of a grid-voltage to the system. The control strategy was evaluated through simulation. The results indicate that this control strategy can achieve the objectives for its application mentioned in the paper.

This study proposes a finite-state modelpredictivecontroller to regulate the load current and balance the DC-link capacitor voltages of a four-leg neutral-point-clamped converter. The discrete-time model of the converter, DC-link, inductive filter, and load is used to predict the future behavior of the load currents and the DC-link capacitor voltages for all possible switching states. The switching state that minimizes the cost function is selected and directly applied to the converter. The cost function is defined to minimize the error between the predicted load currents and their references, as well as to balance the DC-link capacitor voltages. Moreover, the current regulation performance is improved by using a two-step prediction horizon. The feasibility of the proposed predictivecontrol scheme for different references and loads is verified through real-time implementation on the basis of dSPACEDS1103.

The proposed scheme simultaneously controls the ac-side output voltage and the dc-side capacitor voltage and inductor current. A predictivecontrol algorithm specially developed for shunt active power filters aimed to compensate reactive power and current harmonics components is presented and analyzed. The proposed predictivecontrol algorithm is implemented in a three-phase four-leg voltage-source inverter (4L-VSI). The use of a 4L-VSI allows the compensation of current harmonics, reactive power and neutral current harmonics generated by single-phase non-linear loads. A detailed mathematical model of the filter, including the effect of the power system equivalent impedance is derived and used to design the proposed predictivecontrol algorithm. The proposed active power filter and associated control scheme performance and compensation effectiveness are demonstrated by simulation and with experimental results.
