In this paper, we are presenting a visualization of firework algorithm (FWA) inner dynamics as an evolving complex network. Recent research in unconventional controlling and simulation of metaheuristic dynamics shows that this kind of visualization technique has been utilized only for algorithms with some social communication or behavior leading to sharing information across the population. Our simulation experiment presents the original approach for analyzing the complex dynamics of an algorithm based mostly on random/local search engines. Provided analysis suggests that the built network can be used for identification of test function surfaces types.

This study suggests a multi-objective firework algorithm based on the Pareto-dominance method in order to select the optimistic solution from the multimodal transportation problem. The aim is to determine a shortest and efficient itinerary of satisfying a certain set of demands and operational constraints. Several publications have appeared in recent years documenting the transportation network analysis. This fact reflects the importance and complexity of this problem. In order to reach a sustainable planning in a rather complicated transport system, it is of high interest to use an approach that belongs to the field of artificial intelligence method. This paper introduces a new multi-objective approach based on firework algorithm that generates n solutions which are then selected according to the Pareto-dominance which is the best compromise between goals. Finally, we present our obtained experimental results, then we compare them with the obtained results by Cplex in order to prove the efficiency of this algorithm. (C) 2017 The Authors. Optimal Performance and Application for firework algorithm Using a Novel Chaotic Approach

Aimed at the bottleneck of firework algorithm's performance and the problem that it is easy to fall into the local extremum, this paper introduces a chaotic map approach and analyzes its statistical characteristics. New hybrid chaotic systems and a chaotic perturbation operator are designed. Based on different chaotic map approaches, a new Chaotic firework algorithm (CFWA) is proposed and simulated by typical test functions. The results show that performance of the Chaotic firework algorithm is generally better than the original algorithms, and the chaotic hybrid approaches are superior to single chaotic approaches. In order to further verify the application of the proposed algorithm in practical engineering problems, CFWA is applied to Blind Source Separation (BSS) of radar signals. As a result, it does well in sorting observed signals, and has faster convergence and better sorting performance than the traditional algorithms. In this way, the CFWA extends its engineering application.

Hardware/software partitioning is a crucial step in the co-design of embedded system. It can not only shorten the R&D cycle, but also improve the performance of the product. In the co-design of embedded system, the hardware/software partitioning algorithm plays the most important role and many heuristic algorithms have been applied to solve this problem. In this paper, we introduce a novel swarm intelligence optimization algorithm called firework algorithm (FWA) and apply it to hardware/software partitioning. In order to improve the optimization accuracy and decrease the time consumed, operators in the conventional FWA are analyzed and their disadvantages are revealed. Then these operators are modified and an improved version of the conventional FWA called improved firework algorithm (IFWA) is proposed. To avoid overwhelming effects, the IFWA provides an innovative calculation of explosion amplitude and spark's number by setting up dynamic boundaries. Besides, according to grouping and elite strategy, a new selection strategy is put forward to accelerate the convergence speed of the algorithm. Experiments on 8 instances of hardware/software partitioning are conducted in order to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm. Experimental results show that the IFWA outperforms significantly the FWA and several other heuristic algorithms in terms of optimization accuracy, time consumed, and convergence speed.

This paper presents an improved firework algorithm to efficiently configure the virtual inertia for AC/DC hybrid microgrids with distributed energy and high penetration, which can solve the problem of efficient utilization of virtual inertia resources in hybrid microgrid. Firstly, the virtual inertia configuration evaluation model of hybrid microgrids is derived and established. Additionally, to reduce the difficulty of inertia optimization configuration, this paper converts the inertia configuration optimization problem from non-convex to convex optimization. Thirdly, this paper mainly optimizes the particle selection method of the firework algorithm, and introduces the vector optimization domain to directionally select the particles in the optimal domain. Finally, compared with the traditional firework algorithm, the simulation results of the improved firework algorithm has stronger ability to find optimized areas and more accurate performances.

The loser-out tournament-based firework algorithm (LoTFWA) is a new baseline among firework algorithm (FWA) variants due to its outstanding performance in multimodal optimization problems. LoTFWA successfully achieves information-interaction among populations by introducing a competition mechanism, while information-interaction within each sub-population remains insufficient. To solve this issue, this paper proposes a micro-population evolution strategy and a hybrid algorithm LoTFWA-microDE. Under the proposed strategy, sparks generated by one firework make up a micro-population which is taken into the differential evolution procedure. The proposed algorithm is tested on the CEC' 13 benchmark functions. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm attains significantly better performance than LoTFWA and DE in multi-modal functions, which indicates the superiority of the proposed micro-population evolution strategy.

Aiming at the problems of the firework algorithm (FWA) that is easy to fall into the local optimum and the search efficiency and accuracy are low, a firework algorithm with local search optimization (LSFWA) is proposed. In this paper, we present two performance enhancing strategies. The first strategy is that the iterative local search is performed to find the current optimal location. The second strategy is the perturbation strategy, which increases the diversity of sparks to a certain extent by introducing a probability perturbation, then, search for sparks with better fitness near the local extremum to improve the ability to search for the global optimal location. The simulation experiment on 9 test functions shows that LSFWA displays better optimization speed and optimization accuracy compared to the typical algorithm FWA, FAGSO, PSO and GSA.

fireworks algorithm (FWA) is a new Swarm Intelligence algorithm simulating the explosion process of fireworks. An improved fireworks algorithm (IFWABS) with a transfer function is recently developed. In the IFWABS algorithm, a transfer function is used to map the sequence number in the sorted front of fireworks to a function value which is used to better calculate the number of explosion sparks as well as their amplitudes. This paper proposes an adaptive transfer function in which the differences in fitness values of fireworks are used instead of sequence number in the sorted front. The proposed method is applied on 28 CEC2013 benchmark optimization problems and a comparative study has been made with FWA, IFWABS and Enhanced fireworks algorithm (EFWA). The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm statistically performs better than other algorithms.

A relay satellite is an important type of artificial earth satellite. Using a relay satellite to obtain data or upload instructions to other satellites can make satellite systems work more efficiently. This paper studies the large-scale relay satellite scheduling problem (LSRSSP) and establishes a mathematical model to describe this problem. We combine a dynamic population adjustment strategy with the firework algorithm (FWA-DP) and vary the population size to improve the algorithm's search performance. Through a large number of experiments, it can be seen that the proposed algorithm solves the LSRSSP problem well and can be applied to an actual relay satellite scheduling system.
