Application of object oriented programming to on-line hydrological forecasting

Object Oriented Programming (OOP) is a recent technique to write computer application software having advantages like reuse, extension and maintenance. Unlike traditional programming it integrates the data with the code. This paper describes its application to integrated on-line forecasting of river stages and flow rates in a given catchment. The study area pertains to Lower Godavari basin. The developed software is menu-driven. The user has the freedom to make real time flow or stage forecasting at any of the chosen gaging stations using neutral network or regression methods. The output can be seen in the form of corresponding graphs and a decision of warning levels can be accordingly taken. © 1998 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
