The current paper deals with the swarm robots reliability. Cloud robotics, fog robotics and the Internet of the Robotic Things are the fast growing scientific fields nowadays, yet the terms "cloud" and "fog" relate to the network facilities and devices rather than the swarm. In this paper the new approach is proposed, to place a fog-like structure into the swarm and so to affect the reliability of those robots, which need the reliability correction. To show the potential of the approach proposed, simple models are developed, as well as some simulations have been made. Based on the simulation results, "greedy" and "egoistic" strategies are proposed to affect the robots reliability.

As a prosperous technique, Internet of vehicles (IoVs) brings many conveniences for people's daily life, but there are some thorny secure issues that prevent IoVs from further deploying. Many schemes are proposed to solve the secure issues, in which vehicular on-board units (OBUs) or road side units (RSUs) preloaded entire vehicular real identities, which are used for authentication. However, OBUs or RSUs may be compromised, in other word, these existing schemes have their limitations to preserve vehicular identity privacy. Furthermore, in some schemes, the confidentiality of vehicular messages is not considered, clear-text vehicular messages may also disclose vehicular identity privacy. Therefore, we propose a secure and lightweight vehicular privacy preservation scheme for IoVs, in which fog servers use partial vehicular identity information to authenticate their legitimacy so as not to disclose vehicular identity privacy;lightweight and outsourcing decrypting attribute-based encryption methods are employed to achieve access control on sensitive vehicular messages and reduce resource-limited vehicular computation costs;moreover, an innovative conditional identity privacy preservation method is proposed to reveal the real identity of malicious vehicles without disclosing the real identity of honest vehicles even if there are some compromised fog servers or malicious vehicles. Experiments show our scheme is efficient.

Energy Consumption Scheduling as a fog computing Service in Smart Grid

The advent of smart grid technologies provides new tools and services to optimally manage the electricity grids. One of the most interesting services that emerged with the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is energy demand management. This service permits us to face the issues caused by the ever-increasing energy demand such as grid congestion during peak hours, increasing energy generation costs, and even blackouts. In this paper, we investigate the problem of consumer-side optimization of residential energy demand. Our main aim is to better distribute the energy consumption over a day to avoid or reduce the demand during peak hours. Hence, we propose a fog computing-based model for energy demand scheduling using energy consumption cost as an incentive. In this model, the fog nodes schedule the appliances' operations in order to reduce the individual and global energy bills whilst respecting consumers' preferences. The proposed approach performs a multi-agent system-based cooperative scheduling game with minimal interactions between the nodes. Moreover, we present a fog nodes' assignment scheme to decide which node will handle which appliances' schedules. The nodes' assignment strategy aims to optimize the use of fog nodes' resources whilst reducing the scheduling process latency. The performance evaluation shows that the use of fog computing can achieve interesting results in terms of the reduction of energy consumption cost. For instance, the energy consumption during peak hour decreases by more than 25% from 670 kWh to 500 kWh when the scheduling game is performed. As a consequence, the energy consumption cost decreases by 7% from 806 euro to 750 euro.

The demand-side management is considered as an interesting functionality offered by the recent smart grid. This functionality allows the control and scheduling of consumer energy demand, which helps avoiding the problems of offer-demand gap and consumption peaks. The cloud is considered as a powerful tool that ensures scheduling appliances' energy demand in centralized manner. However, the distance between the end users and the cloud might be a problem for latency. In addition, the more and more increasing number of connected objects, generating a huge amount of data that must be transmitted over the communication network, worsens the situation. Fortunately, the novel paradigm of fog computing came to mitigate these issues. In this paper, we propose a cloud-fog computing architecture for the energy demand scheduling. We propose to use this architecture to improve the consumption distribution over the day to reduce the total energy cost for smart buildings. Our work includes two parts: a distributed game-based approach for demand scheduling, and a model for the selection of fog nodes that will perform this distributed approach. The simulation results of the two proposals show that the integration of the fog architecture helps to considerably reduce the energy scheduling delay while determining the optimal demand schedule.

The tremendous amount of mobile data traffic increase in recent years has pushed to emergence of new technologies, such as Device-to-Device (D2D) communications and fog computing (FC). D2D communication is defined as direct communication between mobile users located in proximity of each other, without involvement of the Base Station (BS). FC extends the cloud paradigm to edge users, with aim to reduce the data traffic between end points and a central cloud and also support the delay sensitive applications. This work studies the impact of fog computing on the D2D communications in terms of reducing the network latency and satisfy the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Modeling the fog computing is applied, as a multi-servers queue model, with objective to determine the best number of the fog nodes to satisfy the requirements. We propose an algorithm to determine the minimum number of fog nodes to be deployed in an example network. The simulation results show that our solution achieved minimum number of deployed fog nodes that satisfy the QoS requirement.

In the past few decades, smartphones and Global Positioning System(GPS) devices have led to the popularity of Location Based Services. It is crucial for large MNCs to get a lot of data from people and provide their services accordingly. However, on the other side, the concern of privacy has also increased among the users, and they would like to hide their whereabouts. The rise of data consumption and the hunger for faster network speed has also led to the emergence of new concepts such as the fog computing. fog computing paradigm extends the storage, networking, and computing facilities of the cloud computing towards the edge of the networks while removing the load on the server centers and decreasing the latency at the edge *** fog computing will help in unlimited growth of location services and this adoption of fog computing calls for the need for more secure and robust algorithms for location privacy. One of the ways we can alter the information regarding the location of the user is Location *** can be done reversibly or irreversibly. In this paper, we address the problem of location privacy and present a solution based on the type of data that has to be preserved (in our case, it is distance). A mobile application has been designed and developed to test and validate the feasibility of the proposed obfuscation techniques for the fog computing environments.

With the rapid technological advancement, the On-board Units (OBUs) in vehicles are becoming powerful. Besides supporting infotainment and managing vehicle safety, researchers are envisioning that the OBUs of vehicles would be able to offering a utility model of computing (i.e. processing power and storage as a service) to the end users residing in access network segment. Such an ambitious approach seems to be very realistic. The vehicles together with dedicated fog-computing facility will leverage the computational and storage ability significantly. Some studies impart that 95% time of throughout a day vehicles are remained parked. In some recent research efforts, parked vehicles have been considered as a part of fog-computing infrastructure-they have been referred as Vehicular fog computing (VFC) facility. In this paper, we aim at evaluating TCP throughput performance in a VFC facility. We consider AODV, DSR and AOMDV in our performance evaluation conducted using NS-2 simulator. For the mobility model as an input in the simulator, we consider SUMO generated traffic mobility traces. Findings based on simulation demonstrate that AODV offers the highest throughput among the compared protocols. Aside from this, in this paper, we provide insightful discussion that would open up new research avenues in order to improve performance of TCP in a VFC.

In this paper, a new hierarchical distributed fault diagnosis system for hydropower plant equipment was presented This system was employed fog computing which use the Stormbased computing unit as edge computing node and a cloud The type heterogeneous needed by fault diagnosis system and the data processing workflow of hydropower plant equipment were discussed. The system also defines a Case-based Reasoning model to classify the fault type. Finally a real application case is given in this paper.

This effort to make the power grid more intelligent is tightly coupled with the deployment of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) as an integral part of the future vision of smart grid. The goal of AMI is to provide necessary information for the consumers and utilities to accurately monitor and manage energy consumption and pricing in real time. Immediate benefits are enhanced transparency and efficiency of energy usage and the improvement of customer services. Although the road map toward successful AMI deployment is clearly defined, many challenges and issues are to be solved regarding the design of AMI. In this paper, a multi-agent AMI based on the fog-computing approach is presented. Architecture follows structural decomposition of AMI functionalities encapsulated in a form of local and area-specific service components that reside at the different tiers of hierarchically organized AMI deployment. fog computing concepts provide the framework to effectively solve the problems of creating refined and scalable solutions capable of meeting the requirements of the AMI as a part of future smart grid. On the other hand, agent-based design enables concurrent execution of AMI operations across the distributed system architecture, in the same time improving performance of its execution and preserving the scalability of the AMI solution. The real-time performance of the proposed AMI solution, related to the periodic and on-demand acquisition of metering data from the connected electricity meters, was successfully verified during one year of pilot project operation. The detailed analysis of the performance of AMI operation regarding data collection, communication and data availability across the deployed pilot AMI, covering several transformer station areas with diverse grid topologies, is also presented.
