fractal coding has been widely used as an image compression technique in many image processing problems in the past few decades. On the other hand side, most of the natural images have the characteristic of nonlocal self-similarity that motivates low-rank representations of them. We would employ both the fractal image coding and the nonlocal self-similarity priors to achieve image compression in image denoising problems. Specifically, we propose a new image denoising model consisting of three terms: a patch-based nonlocal low-rank prior, a data-fidelity term describing the closeness of the underlying image to the given noisy image, and a quadratic term measuring the closeness of the underlying image to a fractal image. Numerical results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed model in terms of peak-signal-to-noise ratio, structural similarity index and mean absolute error.

The results of application of the modified genetic algorithm of fractal coding to still images and video sequences are presented. The dependence of the compression coefficient on the size of the rank block is obtained. Comparison of fractal compression with standard MPEG-4 compression algorithms is performed and it is shown that it is possible to achieve double the compression coefficients at the same signal-to-noise ratio values. In the video sequence, both I-frames and predicted P, B frames were subjected to fractal compression. The simulation results showed what time in seconds is spent when encoding one frame.

Nowadays, many methods for face recognition are proposed and most of them can obtain good results. However, when these methods are simulated on the platform of the PC, it is hard to apply these methods, especially complex ones to practical devices. This paper uses fractal theory to compress face images and improves the encoding speed with the inherent feature of facial symmetry. To improve the performance of fractal Neighbor Distance (FND), which is a way of ranging, the degree of similarity between encoded images is defined, and a novel method called fractal Neighbor Distance-based Classification (FNDC) is presented in this paper. The criterion of FNDC is classifying different samples of the same person as a class. Experimental results on Yale, FERET and CMU PIE databases show the effectiveness of FNDC in face recognition. Then we apply the method to ***6 which embeds Android operating system. Actual operating results demonstrated the high efficiency of our method in runtime and correct rate.

This paper proposes a new fractal coding algorithm for 3 D free multi-view HD video based on the monocular HD video fractal coding system. This algorithm combines not only motion compensation prediction and disparity compensation prediction, but also inter-component prediction, it can effectively remove redundancy. In addition, for the special features of the depth map different from the texture map, a non-rectangular block segmentation prediction mode is designed to reduce the distortion of the object edges in the depth map. Using the correlation between the depth map and the corresponding color texture map, the pattern pre-selection algorithm is designed to avoid unnecessary prediction process. The non-rectangular block split mode or the legacy intra prediction mode is adaptively selected. The experimental results show that the fractal 3D free multi-view HD video coding system proposed in this paper is superior to the MVC standard JMVC8.5 in coding performance. It reduces the coding complexity and coding rate of three-dimensional free multi-view HD video and improves coding efficiency. The code rate is reduced by an average of 67.90%, the PSNR is increased by an average of 9.15 dB, and the coding time is reduced by an average of 23.35%.

In recent years, sparse representations of images have shown to be efficient approaches for image recovery. Following this idea, this paper investigates incorporating a dictionary learning approach into fractal image coding, which leads to a new model containing three terms: a patch-based sparse representation prior over a learned dictionary, a quadratic term measuring the closeness of the underlying image to a fractal image, and a data-fidelity term capturing the statistics of Gaussian noise. After the dictionary is learned, the resulting optimization problem with fractal coding can be solved effectively. The new method can not only efficiently recover noisy images, but also admirably achieve fractal image noiseless coding/compression. Experimental results suggest that in terms of visual quality, peak-signal-to-noise ratio, structural similarity index and mean absolute error, the proposed method significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Digital image forgery detection is important because of its wide use in applications such as medical diagnosis, legal investigations, and entertainment. Copy-move forgery is one of the famous techniques, which is used in region duplication. Many of the existing copy-move detection algorithms cannot effectively blind detect duplicated regions that are made by powerful image manipulation software like Photoshop. In this study, a new method is proposed for blind detecting manipulations in digital images based on modified fractal coding and feature vector matching. The proposed method not only detects typical copy-move forgery, but also finds multiple copied forgery regions for images that are subjected to rotation, scaling, reflection, and a mixture of these postprocessing operations. The proposed method is robust against tampered images undergoing attacks such as Gaussian blurring, contrast scaling, and brightness adjustment. The experimental results demonstrated the validity and efficiency of the method.

fractal based compression technique has a very good performance in terms of achieving a high compression ratio and producing a good quality of image/picture. fractal coding technique is limited because of large number of computation is required for searching best possible domain blocks, number of comparisons and transformations applied on each domain blocks present in domain pool. This paper discusses a quadtree based Extended Weighted Finite Automata (EWFA) coding approach for individual frame coding i.e. similar to the intraframe coding. In this approach the quadtree is used to specify the address of each subimage or quadrants for creating a EWFA. We observed that the EWFA encoding process is also similar to fractal encoding process and the size of domain pool increases dynamically during the process of EWFA encoding. Experimentations are carried on standard databases like football, suzie, crew, highway, soccer, ice, and harbour sequence etc.

A kind of fractal improved coding algorithms based on Ant Colony Optimization and neighborhood search matching way is presented in this paper. The compression ratio of this algorithm is higher than that of Jacquin's as well as the coding speed is faster than that of Jacquin's on the premise of similar signal-to-noise ratio. Experimental results show that the compression ratio of this neighborhood searching fractal image coding algorithm based on ant colony optimization can reach to 14.33, the PSNR can reach to 29.7dB, encoding time decreases to 120s and decoding time is 28s.

The major problem with fractal-based coding technique is that, it requires more computation at the encoding phase. Therefore, to reduce this computation, block-matching motion estimation algorithms are used. In this paper, we proposed a modified three-step search algorithm (MTSS) for block-matching motion estimation which consists of two cross-search patterns as a few initial step of search, and two cross-hexagon search patterns as a subsequent step of search that is used to search the center part of search window. Experimentations are carried out on standard video databases, i.e., football, flower, akiyo, coast guard, and traffic. The results of efficient three-step search and cross-hexagon search are compared with our proposed approach with respect to the parameters such as mean of absolute difference (MAD) and average search points per frame. Along with this our proposed approach, frame-based technique is used for fractal video coding evaluated on parameters such as compression ratio, PSNR, encoding time, and bit rate.
