Purpose: Fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) have shown good performance in clinical applications due to their good mechanical properties and minimally invasive approach. However, typical failure patterns of FRC FDPs are often localized at the pontic site. That reflects the structural considerations at the framework and pontic location that need to be examined when creating these kinds of prostheses. Study selection: Peer-reviewed articles and other scientific literature were reviewed for providing up-to-date information on how pontics of FRC FDPs can be made. A thorough literature search was done using PubMed and Google Scholar. Two individuals did an assessment of the articles in order to include those related to pontics and framework design of FRC FDPs. The search terms used were "fiber-reinforced dental prosthesis" and "Pontics of fiber-reinforced dental prosthesis". Results: These findings indicate that a cross-sectional fiber design, substructure and thicker pontics made of a variety of materials might reduce failures at the pontic site. Conclusions: The thickness of pontics of FRC FDPs interrelated with the vertical positioning of the FRC framework influences the load-bearing capacities of prostheses of these kinds. The understanding of the factors involved in the fabrication of pontics of FRC FDPs may overcome the drawbacks identified in these prostheses, thus extending their longevity. Owing to the stochastic characteristic of natural wind speed, the output fluctuation of wind farm has a negative impact on power grid when a large-scale wind farm is connected to a power grid. It is very difficult to overcome this impact only by wind farm itself. A novel power system called wind-gas turbine hybrid energy system was discussed, and the framework design of this hybrid energy system was presented in detail in this paper. The hybrid energy system combines wind farm with several small gas turbine power plants to form an integrated power station to provide a relatively firm output power. The small gas turbine power plant has such special advantages as fast start-up, shutdown, and quick load regulation to fit the requirement of the hybrid energy system. Therefore, the hybrid energy system uses the output from the small gas turbine power plants to compensate for the output fluctuation from the wind farm for the firm output from the whole power system. To put this hybrid energy system into practice, the framework must be designed first. The capacity of the wind farm is chosen according to the capacity and units of small gas turbine power plants, load requirement from power grid, and local wind energy resource distribution. Finally, a framework design case of hybrid energy system was suggested according to typical wind energy resource in Xinjiang Autonomous Region in China.

As the market concept is gradually introduced into the power system, the attention and interaction on the demand side have been promoted to a new level, and the interests of participants in power system are gradually diversified. Load aggregator plays a more and more important role as an important coordinating organization between the power grid side and the user side. Based on the load classification, the definition of load aggregator is given, and the current situation of electricity market in China is reviewed and analyzed. The relationship between load aggregators and other market entities is analyzed, and the load aggregators are involved in the power supply. The key issues in the market are discussed in detail.

In the promotion and construction of the Yangtze River digital waterway project, in order to solve the problem that lacking of standard and unified visual spatial information service in the waterway management business process, the framework of the spatial database system of the Yangtze River digital waterway is designed in combination with the maintenance management mode and business characteristics of the Yangtze River waterway, and proposed the system practice scheme of the function, data architecture and standard specification of the spatial database system, which provides effective technical support for the realization of unified intelligent service of spatial information of the Yangtze River waterway.

The influence of framework design on the load-bearing capacity of laboratory-made inlay-retained fibre-reinforced composite fixed dental prostheses

Delamination of the veneering composite is frequently encountered with fibre-reinforced composite (FRC) fixed dental prosthesis (FDPs). The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of framework design on the load-bearing capacity of laboratory-made three-unit inlay-retained FRC-FDPs. Inlay-retained FRC-FDPs replacing a lower first molar were constructed. Seven framework designs were evaluated: PFC, made of particulate filler composite (PFC) without fibre-reinforcement;FRC1, one bundle of unidirectional FRC;FRC2, two bundles of unidirectional FRC;FRC3, two bundles of unidirectional FRC covered by two pieces of short unidirectional FRC placed perpendicular to the main framework;SFRC1, two bundles of unidirectional FRC covered by new experimental short random-orientated FRC (S-FRC) and veneered with 1.5 mm of PFC: SFRC2, completely made of S-FRC;SFRC3, two bundles of unidirectional FRC covered by S-FRC. Load-bearing capacity was determined for two loading conditions (n = 6): central fossa loading and buccal cusp loading. FRC-FDPs with a modified framework design made of unidirectional FRC and S-FRC exhibited a significant higher load-bearing capacity (p < 0.05) (927 +/- 74 N) than FRC-FDPs with a conventional framework design (609 +/- 119 N) and PFC-FDPs (702 +/- 86 N). Central fossa loading allowed significant higher load-bearing capacities than buccal cusp loading. This study revealed that all S-FRC frameworks exhibited comparable or higher load-bearing capacity in comparison to an already established improved framework design. So S-FRC seems to be a viable material for improving the framework of FRC-FDPs. Highest load-bearing capacity was observed with FRC frameworks made of a combination of unidirectional FRC and S-FRC. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the design of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) with zirconia frameworks. The abutment teeth were the upper central incisor and the canine. Three types of frameworks were fabricated as follows: 0.5-mm- and 0.8-mm-thick zirconia frameworks with grooves and holes (0.5ZrG, 0.8ZrG) and 0.5-mm-thick zirconia frameworks without grooves and holes (0.5Zr). The control group was designed as a 0.8-mm-thick metal framework with grooves and holes (0.8MG). Static loading was applied and the surface strain of the retainers was measured with strain gages. The magnitude of the principal strain of the 0.5ZrG framework was significantly lower than that of the 0.8MG and the 0.5Zr frameworks. This result suggests that the zirconia and retention form had a significant effect on decreasing the framework deformation, indicating that the RBFPDs that use a 0.5-mm-thick zirconia framework are effective for replacing a single anterior missing tooth.

Effect of framework design on fracture load after thermal cycling and mechanical loading of implant-supported zirconia-based prostheses

This study evaluated the effect of zirconia framework design on fracture load of implant-supported zirconia-based prostheses after thermal cycling and mechanical loading. Three different zirconia framework designs were investigated: uniform-thickness (UNI), anatomic (ANA), and supported anatomic (SUP) designs. Each framework was layered with feldspathic porcelain (ZAC group) or indirect composite material (ZIC group). The specimens then underwent fracture load testing after thermal cycling and cyclic loading. In the ZAC group, mean fracture load was significantly lower for UNI design specimens than for the other framework designs. In the ZIC group, there was no significant difference in mean fracture load between ANA design specimens and either UNI or SUP design specimens. To improve fracture resistance of implant-supported zirconia-based prostheses after artificial aging, uniformly thick layering material and appropriate lingual support with zirconia frameworks should be provided.

A cusp supporting framework design can decrease critical stresses in veneered molar crowns

Objectives. Veneered zirconia restorations predominately fail due to veneering fractures. It is hypothesized that a cusp-supporting framework design can prevent these catastrophic failures in all-ceramic restorations. Therefore, we investigated the influence of framework design and framework material on the stress distribution in a single tooth restoration using the numerical finite element method. Methods. A three-dimensional model of a veneered lower molar (36) crown with constant outer shape was used. The framework design was either cusp supporting or with a constant framework thickness. Zirconia, alumina, and a gold alloy were used as framework material. A glass ceramic material was used as veneering material for both cases. Two different load cases were simulated: terminal occlusion with load distributed over the occlusal surface of the tooth and a fairly extreme load case with all force concentrated on one cusp. Results. Maximum tensile stresses in the glass ceramic veneering material concentrated in the fissure region for all models. A cusp supporting framework design decreased the maximum tensile stresses significantly up to 30.5%. The distolingual load case resulted in an approximately fourfold higher stress level compared to the terminal occlusion load case. Significance. A cusp supporting framework design can significantly decrease the maximum tensile stresses in the veneering material of single crowns. Based on the numerical results of this study it can be expected that such a design could decrease the risk of veneering failure in vivo. (C) 2013 Academy of Dental Materials. Fatigue life and failure modes of crowns systems with a modified framework design

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of framework design on the fatigue life and failure modes of metal ceramic (MC, Ni-Cr alloy core, VMK 95 porcelain veneer), glass-infiltrated alumina (ICA, In-Ceram Alumina/VM7), and veneered yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (Y-TZP, *** ZirCAD/IPS ***,) crowns. Methods: Sixty composite resin tooth replicas of a prepared maxillary first molar were produced to receive crowns systems of a standard (MCs, ICAs, and Y-TZPs, n = 10 each) or a modified framework design (MCm, ICAm, and Y-TZPm, n = 10 each). Fatigue loading was delivered with a spherical steel indenter (3.18 mm radius) on the center of the occlusal surface using r-ratio fatigue (30-300 N) until completion of 10(6) cycles or failure. Fatigue was interrupted every 125,000 cycles for damage evaluation. Weibull distribution fits and contour plots were used for examining differences between groups. Failure mode was evaluated by light polarized and SEM microscopy. Results: Weibull analysis showed the highest fatigue life for MC crowns regardless of framework design. No significant difference (confidence bound overlaps) was observed between ICA and Y-TZP with or without framework design modification. Y-TZPm crowns presented fatigue life in the range of MC crowns. No porcelain veneer fracture was observed in the MC groups, whereas ICAs presented bulk fracture and ICAm failed mainly through the veneer. Y-TZP crowns failed through chipping within the veneer, without core fractures. Conclusions: framework design modification did not improve the fatigue life of the crown systems investigated. Y-TZPm crowns showed comparable fatigue life to MC groups. Failure mode varied according to crown system. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Effects of framework design and layering material on fracture strength of implant-supported zirconia-based molar crowns

ObjectivesTo evaluate the effects of framework design and layering material on the fracture strength of implant-supported zirconia-based molar crowns. Material and methodsSixty-six titanium abutments (GingiHue Post) were tightened onto dental implants (Implant Lab Analog). These abutment-implant complexes were randomly divided into three groups (n=22) according to the design of the zirconia framework (Katana), namely, uniform-thickness (UNI), anatomic (ANA), and supported anatomic (SUP) designs. The specimens in each design group were further divided into two subgroups (n=11): zirconia-based all-ceramic restorations (ZAC group) and zirconia-based restorations with an indirect composite material (Estenia C&B) layered onto the zirconia framework (ZIC group). All crowns were cemented on implant abutments, after which the specimens were tested for fracture resistance. The data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney U-test with the Bonferroni correction (=0.05). ResultsThe following mean fracture strength values (kN) were obtained in UNI design, ANA design, and SUP design, respectively: Group ZAC, 3.78, 6.01, 6.50 and Group ZIC, 3.15, 5.65, 5.83. In both the ZAC and ZIC groups, fracture strength was significantly lower for the UNI design than the other two framework designs (P=0.001). Fracture strength did not significantly differ (P>0.420) between identical framework designs in the ZAC and ZIC groups. ConclusionsA framework design with standardized layer thickness and adequate support of veneer by zirconia frameworks, as in the ANA and SUP designs, increases fracture resistance in implant-supported zirconia-based restorations under conditions of chewing attrition. Indirect composite material and porcelain perform similarly as layering materials on zirconia frameworks.
