model of Next Generation Energy-Efficient Design Software for Buildings

Energy-efficient design for buildings (EEDB) is a vital step towards building energy-saving. In order to greatly improve the EEDB, the next generation EEDB software that makes use of latest technologies needs to be developed. This paper mainly focuses on establishing the model of the next generation EEDB software. Based on the investigation of literatures and the interviews to the designers, the requirements on the next generation EEDB software were identified, where the lifecycle assessment on both energy consumption and environmental impacts, 3D graphics support, and building information modeling (BIM) support were stressed. Then the workflow for using the next generation EEDB software was established. Finally, based on the workflow, the framework model for the software was proposed, and the partial models and the corresponding functions were systematically analyzed. The model lays a solid foundation for developing the next generation EEDB software.

Preformed secondary structure drives the association reaction of GCN4-p1, a model coiled-coil system

The structure of the transition state for the rate-limiting step in the folding and association of the homodimeric coiled-coil peptide GCN4-p1, was probed by mutational analysis. A series of quadruple amino acid replacements that spanned the helix propensity scale were made at the four external f positions in the heptad repeat. Equilibrium and kinetic circular dichroism studies demonstrate that both the stability and the unfolding and refolding rate constants vary with helix propensity but also reflect interactions of the altered side-chains with their local environments. Pairwise replacements and fragment studies show that the two C-terminal heptads are the likely source of the nucleating helices. Helix-helix recognition between preformed elements of secondary structure plays an important role in this fundamental folding reaction. (C) 2000 Academic Press.

EVIDENCE FOR A MOLTEN GLOBULE STATE AS A GENERAL INTERMEDIATE IN PROTEIN FOLDING

The folding of globular proteins occurs through intermediate states whose characterisation provides information about the mechanism of folding. A major class of intermediate states is the compact 'molten globule', whose characteristics have been studied intensively in those conditions in which it is stable (at acid pH, high temperatures and intermediate concentrations of strong denaturants). In studies involving bovine carbonic anhydrase, human alpha-lact-albumin, bovine beta-lactoglobulin, yeast phosphoglycerate kinase, beta-lactamase from Staphylococcus aureus and recombinant human interleukin 1 beta, we have demonstrated that a transient intermediate which accumulates during refolding is compact and has the properties of the 'molten globule' state. We show that it is formed within 0.1-0.2 s. These proteins belong to different structural types (beta, alpha + beta and alpha/beta), with and without disulphide bridges and they include proteins with quite different times of complete folding (from seconds to decades of minutes). We propose that the formation of the transient molten globule state occurs early on the pathway of folding of all globular proteins.

Secondary structure formation is the earliest structural event in the refolding of an all β-sheet protein

The refolding kinetics of cobrotoxin (CBTX), a small-molecular-weight (similar to 7 kDa) all beta-sheet protein, has been monitored using a variety of biophysical techniques. The secondary structure formation and hydrophobic collapse occur as distinct events during the refolding of the protein. Complete secondary structure formation occurs prior to the clustering of the hydrophobic residues. The late stage(s) of the refolding pathway of CBTX is characterized by change(s) in the local environment and optical asymmetry of the indole ring of the sole tryptophan residue. The results obtained in the present study, to our knowledge, represent the first unambiguous experimental support for the framework model of protein folding. (C) 1999 Academic Press.

\The high structural resolution of the main transition states for the formation of native structure for the six small proteins of which Phi -values for a large set of mutants have become available, barstar, barnase, chymotrypsin inhibitor 2, Are repressor, the src SH3 domain, and a tetrameric p53 domain reveals that for the first 5 of these proteins: (1) Residues that belong to regular secondary structure have a significantly larger average fraction of native structural consolidation than residues in loops;(2) on the other hand, secondary and tertiary structures have built up to the same degree, or at least a high degree, but nonuniformly distributed over the molecule;(3) the most consolidated parts of each protein molecule in the transition state cluster together, and these clusters contain a significantly higher percentage of residues that belong to regular secondary structure than the rest of the molecule. These observations further reconcile the framework model with the nucleation-condensation mechanism for folding: The amazing speed of protein folding can be understood as caused by the catalytic effect of the formation of clusters of residues which have particularly high preferences for the early formation of regular secondary structure in the presence of significant amounts of tertiary structure interactions. Dispute about conception and research area of knowledge management exists always. In order to distinguish and evaluate about the influence factor of the success or failure of knowledge management project, it is necessary to understand it in the point of system thought and to design an integrated entirely knowledge management framework model that is accepted at large. Firstly, this article starts with the research on the present knowledge management and the analysis of different views, discussing the system framework, connotation and extension of knowledge management with systemic viewpoint. Then the paper will develop a knowledge management framework model and propose a system framework of knowledge management system and its practical application.

Agri-food supply chain has different characteristics related to the raw materials it uses. Food supply chain has a high risk of damage, thus drawing a lot of attention from researchers in supply chain management. This research aimed to investigate the development of supply chain risk management research on agri-food industries. These reviews were arranged in steps systematically, ranging from searching related to the review of SCRM paper, reviewing the general framework of SCRM and the framework of agri-food SCRM. Selection of literature review papers in the period 2005-2017, and obtained 45 papers. The results of the identification research were illustrated in a supply chain risk management framework model. This provided insight toward future research directions and needs.

This research involves the activities of lesson study that has been running for about five years ago by a Teacher Learning Communities (KGB) in Subang - Cianjur, West Java. These activities consist of Planning (Plan), Implementation (Do) and Reflection(See). After process See is finished, Mobile Learning Lesson Study (MLLS) then built as a learning system based on mobile devices in order to support the results of lesson study processes and also to allow users to access of the learning outcomes of the KGB community. This system has a major role in the process of delivering lesson plan (RPP) by other teachers at the elementary school level. Therefore, the authors propose a framework for MLLS system that will be used as a reference in the development and implementation of the MLLS itself. Processes involved including business process definition, system requirements identification and stakeholders tasks division. After those parts are gathered, implementation of its mobile system is developed. At the end, there is a testing process to validate the results to ensure the quality of the proposed framework designed.

The shortage of guidance of perfect mental models is one important reason of failure of business process reengineering (BPR) in enterprises. First of all, the importance of mental model to BPR is discussed based on exploring about both BPR reasons and influencing factors and the framework model of the relationship between mental model and BPR is constructed. Then the defect of mental model in the enterprises which need BPR is analyzed. Finally, some methods of improving the mental models are proposed in order to increase the success rate of BPR from the viewpoint of optimizing mental models of enterprises.
