Platform thinking has been the subject of investigation and deployment in many projects in both academia and industry. Most contributions involve the restructuring of product programs, and only a few support front-end development of a new platform in parallel with technology development. This contribution deals with the development of product platforms in front-end projects and introduces a modeling tool: the Conceptual Product Platform model. State of the art within platform modeling forms the base of a modeling formalism for a Conceptual Product Platform model. The modeling formalism is explored through an example and applied in a case in which the Conceptual Product Platform model has supported the front-end development of a platform for an electro-active polymer technology. The case describes the contents of the model and how its application supported the development work in the project. The conclusion is that the Conceptual Product Platform model supports stakeholders in achieving an overview of the development tasks and communicating these across multidisciplinary development teams, as well as making decisions on the contents of the platform and providing a link between technical solutions and market requirements.

A process-oriented framework to measure development performance and success of megaprojects

The critical role of the front-end development phase for the success of megaprojects is widely acknowledged despite a lack of theorizing and empirical evidence on what constitutes development performance and success and how to measure them. Rational-instrumental conceptualizations focus on identifying a large number of universal success factors that help avoid the pitfalls of megaproject development. However, these approaches neglect the adversarial and contingent nature of megaprojects and the complex dynamic interactions between their multiple facets. As a remedy, to define and measure the performance and success of megaproject devel-opment phase, we build a process-oriented framework which focuses on convergence in terms of project rep-resentations and stakeholders' volition. Then, we propose clear definitions of megaproject development performance and success, by attempting to address the ambiguous distinction between the definitions of overall project success and performance, and by suggesting ways in which our results could help set on a more rigorous ground the research on the relation between development phase performance and overall project success.

Customer-facing applications are essential for businesses. Therefore, a good user experience is fundamental for their success in the market. Companies employ highly specialized people in front-end development and User Experience (UX) & User Interface (UI) design to achieve this goal. Their collaboration is critical and raises some efficiency challenges, particularly in Low-Code platforms, such as OutSystems. UX/UI designers typically use specialized tools with their underlying metamodels. OutSystems developers use an integrated development environment with the underlying OutSystems metamodel. While there are some code-generation plugins for popular design tools, these do not generate code for Low-Code platforms. The current transformation process from design to development is done 100% manually, resulting in a loss of efficiency. Our goal is to accelerate this transformation process from a design model to a development model to mitigate this inefficiency. To do so, we developed an approach using model transformations to automate part of the process. Namely, it automates the generation of application pages/screens by composing the screen mockups in a design technology (such as Figma or Sketch) with a library of reusable UI components to instantiate the design in a front-end technology (such as OutSystems). Our approach was validated by a professional team of front-end developers from an established enterprise-grade Low-Code platform who applied and evaluated this work on some of their past real projects. Preliminary results show an overall acceptance of the developed tool with a possible increase of 150% to 400% in the number of pages/screens that they can deliver with the same effort. This approach allows mitigating a bottleneck faced by the development team. To increase the value they could offer to customers (e.g., by producing more application screens in the same time frame), they would need to recruit new collaborators whose skill set is high on demand. Nowadays, going digital is a must for a company to thrive and remain competitive. The digital transformation allows companies to react timely and adequately to the constantly evolving markets. This transformation is not without challenges. Among these is the growing demand for skilled software developers. Low-code platforms have risen to mitigate this pressure point by allowing people with non-programming backgrounds to craft digital systems capable of solving business relevant problems. Professional development teams are composed of many different profiles - product owners, analysts, UX and UI designers, front-end and back-end developers, among others. Market competition puts unprecedented demands on the collaboration of these professionals. Current methodologies provide tools and approaches for many of these types of collaboration. However, the reality of established industry practices for UX and UI designers collaborating with front-end developers, still leaves a lot to improve in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. This work developed an innovative approach using model transformation and meta-modelling techniques that drastically improves the efficiency of transforming UX/UI design artefacts into low-code web-technology. The approach has been applied to a recognized and established enterprise-grade low-code platform and evaluated in practice by a team of professional designers and front-end developers. Preliminary practical results show savings between 20 and 75% according to the project complexity in the effort invested by development teams in the above mentioned process.

The success of a web application is closely linked to its performance, which positively impacts user satisfaction and contributes to energy-saving efforts. Among the various optimization techniques, one specific subject focuses on improving the utilization of web fonts. This study investigates the impact of different font formats on client-side resource consumption, such as CPU, memory, load time, and energy. In a controlled experiment, we evaluate performance metrics using the four font formats: OTF, TTF, WOFF, and WOFF2. The results of the study show that there are significant differences between all pair-wise format comparisons regarding all performance metrics. Overall, WOFF2 performs best, except in terms of memory allocation. Through the study and examination of literature, this research contributes (1) an overview of methodologies to enhance web performance through font utilization, (2) a specific exploration of the four prevalent font formats in an experimental setup, and (3) practical recommendations for scientific professionals and practitioners.

The danger of spreading the new variant of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) still exists. It takes a new habit to prevent it. The World Health Organization (WHO)urges to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 variant, including by getting used to washing hands regularly. To support this call, the researchers carried out various innovations. One of them is through the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology for routine hand washing. This research innovates by using an IoT tool that we named Amikom Purwokerto Hand Sanitizer (AMPUH). In addition to functioning as an automatic hand-washing device, this tool is also capable of recording temperature data, and the number of users, controlling hand sanitizer liquid and measuring saturation automatically. The recordings are stored through a data logger and processed through an IoT platform called ThingSpeak. ThingSpeak has the disadvantage of data visualization which is less attractive and informative. A website dashboard is needed to visualize the data contained on the ThingSpeak platform so that the display is more attractive and easier to understand. Therefore, this study aims to create a website dashboard that can provide information from the data stored on the ThingSpeak platform. The author focuses on the front-end by using the *** framework. This framework has advantages such as being flexible (can be used in large-and small-scale websites), reducing repetitive code, and making the page display more dynamic. In building this front end, we apply the Extreme Programming development method. Based on the results of the study, showed that the implementation of the *** framework on the AMPUH data logger front-end resulted in performance in accordance with expectations. Websites that are built to produce attractive and informative visualizations. © 2022 IEEE.

As an important tool framework for developing or simplifying front-end, front-end constructors can replace most traditional front-end development techniques for the purpose of simplification and visualization, and are an indispensable technology in current front-end design. Therefore, in order to study the role of visualization based front-end constructor technology, this article compared it with web pages that did not use visualization technology and were based on traditional front-end design, as well as web pages constructed using IP (Internet Protocol) technology, to verify the effectiveness of this method. The comparison results showed that after visualization, the daily average number of visits was 15405, while before visualization, the daily average number of visits was 12565. The daily average number of interactions with visualization technology was 2646, and the daily average number of interactions with IP technology was 2269. That is to say, in two comparative experiments targeting the two design methods, the method proposed in this paper outperformed, so this study found that the visualization based front-end constructor technology has great advantages. © 2024 IEEE.

The diploma thesis on development of front-end Applications focuses on the design of computerization of enterprise processes covered by a unified front-end application. Exploratory research was used to suggest working methods to solve technological growth of the enterprise and how to evaluate business need of a front-end application. Later chapters present basic summary of development methodology used for automation of business processes. The diploma thesis innovatively proposes a role of a front-end specialist who does not need to create a program code and has closer relation to business departments. There are recommend analytical standards and development tools for automation of business processes as well as front-end implementation. Design systems represent a user interaction design and development approach that is currently of avid interest in the industry. However, little research work has been done to synthesize knowledge related to design systems in order to inform the design of tools to support their creation, maintenance, and usage practices. This paper represents an important step in which we explored the issues that design system projects usually deal with and the perceptions and values of design system project leaders. Through this exploration, we aim to investigate the needs for tools that support the design system approach. We found that the open source communities around design systems focused on discussing issues related to behaviors of user interface components of design systems. At the same time, leaders of design system projects faced considerable challenges when evolving their design systems to make them both capable of capturing stable design knowledge and flexible to the needs of the various concrete products. They valued a bottom-up approach for design system creation and maintenance, in which components are elevated and merged from the evolving products. Our findings synthesize the knowledge and lay foundations for designing techniques and tools aimed at supporting the design system practice and related modern user interaction design and development approaches.
