We have recently designed FSA-SPARQL, an extension of the SPARQL query language for querying fuzzy RDF datasets. Answers of FSA-SPARQL queries are usually annotated with truth degrees which are computed from fuzzy connectives and operators that act on truth degrees associated to RDF triples. While FSA-SPARQL offers a rich repertoire of fuzzy connectives and operators, it is not always easy to retrieve the user's expected answers. This is very often due to wrong formulation of queries, caused by inadequate use/combination of fuzzy connectives, operators and thresholds. For instance, a high threshold for truth degrees in some RDF datasets can lead to an empty set of answers, some strong or weak restrictive combination of fuzzy conditions might produce few or too many answers, etc. On the other hand, our research group has also developed the fuzzy logic programming language FASILL, which has been equipped with tuning techniques for enabling the customization of queries from test cases. In this paper, our goals are: (1) to provide a FSA-SPARQL translation to FASILL and (2) apply the tuning techniques to FSA-SPARQL queries for getting more precise formulation of queries from test cases.

Recycling of wastes is a crucial subject for a sustainable environment. One of the main problem in this area is the appropriate location of the collection centers and recycling facilities. These facilities can be paired according to the criteria such as: distance, cost, type of waste. In this paper, fuzzy linguistics Prolog is used to fmd importance weights of selection criteria and to match facilities for decision making process. Bousi similar to Prolog is a fuzzy Prolog that enables working with both fuzzy linguistic and linguistic tools to guide the Prolog systems towards computing with paradigm phrases that can be very helpful to the linguistic resources.

The fuzzy logic programming language Bousi-Prolog extends Prolog with a weak unification algorithm based on proximity relations and truth degree annotations. The weak unification algorithm makes the search for answers more flexible, while rule annotations make possible knowledge-based applications where the rules may be uncertain. In this paper, after recalling the main concepts supporting this language, we detail its design and implementation. We describe the implementation of its operational semantics, which is based on compiling programs and queries into Prolog, and those important features that makes it more applicable: fuzzy sets, integration with WordNet and efficiency techniques. The result is a high-level open-source implementation of the Bousi-Prolog system, written on top of SWI-Prolog, and publicly available. We also summarise some experiments measuring its performance compared to other systems.

The aim of this paper is to contribute to the study of relationships between different formalism for handling uncertainty in logic programming, knowledge-based systems and deductive databases. Generalized annotated programs with restricted semantics (RGA-programs) are well suited to fit real-world data. We show that RGA-programs with constant annotations in body are equivalent to programs with left discontinuous annotation and with possibly non-computable semantics. Our model of fuzzy logic programming (FLP) can well handle recursive programs. We show that FLP has the same expressive power as RGA-programs without constant annotations in body of rules. We introduce several syntactical transformations of programs and study their models and production operators. We introduce a new efficient procedural semantics for RGA-programs and show connections between different sorts of computed answers. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The paper introduces fuzzy linguistic logic programming, which is a combination of fuzzy logic programming, introduced by P. Vojtas, and hedge algebras in order to facilitate the representation and reasoning on human knowledge expressed in natural languages. In fuzzy linguistic logic programming, truth values are linguistic ones, e.g., Very True, Very Probably True and Little False, taken from a hedge algebra of a linguistic truth variable, and linguistic hedges (modifiers) can be used as unary connectives in formulae. This is motivated by the fact that humans reason mostly in terms of linguistic terms rather than in terms of numbers, and linguistic hedges are often used in natural languages to express different levels of emphasis. The paper presents: (a) the language Of fuzzy linguistic logic programming;(b) a declarative semantics in terms of Herbrand interpretations and models;(c) a procedural semantics which directly manipulates linguistic terms to Compute a lower bound to the truth Value of a query, and proves its soundness;(d) a fixpoint semantics of logic programs, and based on it, proves the completeness of the procedural semantics;(e) several applications of fuzzy linguistic logic programming;and (f) an idea of implementing a system to execute fuzzy linguistic logic programs.

Tabulation proof procedures for fuzzy linguistic logic programming

fuzzy linguistic logic programming is a logical system for representing and reasoning with linguistically-expressed human knowledge. In fuzzy linguistic logic programming, up until now, there have been only two methods to compute answers to a query w.r.t. a logic program: (i) by bottom-up iterating the immediate consequence operator T-p;or (ii) by using the procedural semantics. Nevertheless, the former is exhaustive and not goal-oriented. Indeed, it requires computation of the whole least Herbrand model despite the fact that not all the results are required to determine the answer of the query. On the other hand, although the latter is goal-oriented, it may lead to an infinite loop and may recompute atoms in rule bodies. Furthermore, it may not, in general, give a most general answer to a query. In this paper, we develop two query answering procedures which can overcome these problems for fuzzy linguistic logic programming. More precisely, the non-deterministic tabulation procedure is close to the procedural semantics and gives all answers to a query. The deterministic tabulation procedure is more efficient than the non-deterministic one and gives all and only the most general answers to a query. The deterministic procedure also enables threshold computation and top-k retrieval. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

This paper presents fuzzy linguistic logic programming which is developed based on fuzzy logic programming introduced by P. Vojtas in order to facilitate the representation and reasoning on knowledge expressed in natural language. In fuzzy linguistic logic programming, truth values are linguistic terms such as true, very true, more or less true, and false taken from a hedge algebra of the truth variable, and linguistic hedges, e.g., very, more or less, quite, and rather, which are frequently used in natural language, can be used as unary connectives in formulae. In order to compute the truth value of a query, we provide a computational model which directly manipulates linguistic terms. The soundness of the computational model is proved. A fixpoint semantics of logic programs and the completeness of the computational model are discussed.

fuzzy linguistic logic programming, which is a result of integrating hedge algebras and fuzzy logic programming, is proposed to facilitate the representation and reasoning on knowledge expressed in natural language, in which vague sentences are usually given a degree of truth stated in linguistic terms rather than a number, and linguistic hedges are very often used. To compute the truth value of a query, a computational model which directly manipulates linguistic terms is provided. The computational model has been proved to be sound. This paper presents a fixpoint semantics for fuzzy linguistic logic programs and based on it proves the completeness of the computational model.

The "fuzzy logic programming Environment for Research", FLOPER in brief, that we have implemented in our research group, is intended to help the development of rule-based applications supporting fuzzy logic and approximated reasoning. The system is able to directly translate a powerful kind of fuzzy logic programs (belonging to the so-called multi-adjoint logic approach) into Prolog code which can be directly executed inside any standard Prolog interpreter in a completely transparent way for the final user. The system also generates a low-level representation of the fuzzy code offering debugging (tracing) capabilities with close connections to other program manipulation tasks (optimization, specialization, etc). Our approach focuses on practical and technical aspects on rule-based reasoning with uncertain and fuzzy information.

A powerful research line in the design of declarative languages consists in the introduction of expressive resources with a fuzzy taste on their cores, in order to provide comfortable computational constructs for easily solving real-world scientific/engineering problems. Into the fuzzy logic programming arena, the so-called multi-adjoint approach (MALP in brief) has emerged as an interesting paradigm for which our research group has developed during the last years the FLOPER programming environment and the fuzzyXPath application in the field of the semantic web. Since the practicality of declarative languages is strongly dependent of their theoretical foundations, here we focus on topics related with the declarative semantics of the MALP framework. So, under an innovative point of view relying on fuzzy sets theory, in this paper we re-formulate in a very simple and elegant way our original model theory-based notions of least fuzzy Herbrand model and (fuzzy) correct answer. Apart for simplifying the proofs relating these concepts, our results are nicely strengthened with homologous ones in the field of pure logic programming, but largely surpassing them thanks to the fuzzy dimension of the MALP language.
