We used a goal programming technique to determine the optimal harvest volume for the Iranian Caspian forest. We collected data including volume, growth, wood price at forest roadside, and variable harvesting costs. The allometric method was used to quantify seques- trated carbon. Regression analysis was used to derive growth models. Expected mean price was estimated using wood price and variable harvesting costs. Questionnaire was used to determine the constraints and the equation coefficients of the goal programming model. The optimal volume was determined using the goal programming method according to multipurpose forest management. LINGO software was used for analysis. Results indicated that the optimum volumes of species were 250.25 ***-1 for beech, 59 ***-1 for hornbeam, 73 ***-1 for oak, 41 ***-1 for alder, and 32 ***-1 for other species. The total optimum volume is 455.25 ***-1.

The formulation of the duals of the original goal programming variants took place in the decades following its introduction, principally for computational purposes. However the development of more recent goal programming variants has not been matched by the formulation and analysis of their associated duals. This paper furthers the topic of goal programming duality by formulating the duals of a progressive sequence of up to the most recent goal programming models: Weighted, Chebyshev, Extended and Extended Network goal programming models. It interprets the results and shows the insights that the duals can provide, principally by providing an understanding of the interactions between the multiple objectives in each case. The paper concludes with a comparison of the results and shows how the sequence of duals mirrors the sequence of the associated primals.

The aim of this paper is to apply goal programming to select a site for a Fire and Emergency Service station in Sfax region in Tunisia. The decision making process involves incommensurable and conflicting objectives including proximity to industrial firms and response time. The concept of satisfaction function is utilized to explicitly introduce the Decision-Maker's preferences in the decision-making process.

Sewer rehabilitation planning is a complex problem that needs the development of some tools that facilitate the integration of many factors and parameters influencing the status of sewer pipes. Generally only the structural aspects are considered in the rehabilitation planning and sewer degradation studies. Some studies that integrate the hydraulic performance do not consider the real responsibility of each pipe in the surcharges or they only introduce a prioritization without considering the economic factors or the suitable rehabilitation method to use. In this study, an integration of two aspects (structural and hydraulic) of the performance of sewer pipes is considered and the planning over a time horizon is presented. The proposed methodology selects the suitable rehabilitation method for each sewer pipe in order to minimize the overall deviation from the desired structural and hydraulic performance levels within a limited budget. The methodology requires, on one hand, the standard structural classification of the pipes, which is considered in the computation of the initial structural performance. On the other hand, the global hydraulic performance of each conduit is calculated by computing the runoff flows at its entry. These flows are then considered to evaluate the real capacity of the pipes as well as their corresponding performance indexes. An optimisation model is then developed in order to determine the suitable rehabilitation method for each pipe that permits to approach the desired hydraulic and structural performance of the system without exceeding the maximum budget. The methodology has been tested on a sewer of the sector 1 in Verdun, a district of Montreal. The results show the applicability of the methodology and its success.

In this paper, authors studied a goal programming approach for solving multi-objective fractional transportation problem by representing the parameters (gamma, delta) in terms of interval valued fuzzy numbers. Fuzzy goal programming problem with multiple objectives is difficult for the decision makers to determine the goal valued of each objective precisely. The proposed model presents a special type of non-linear (hyperbolic) membership functions to solve multi-objective fractional transportation problem with fuzzy parameters. To illustrate the proposed method numerical examples are solved.

In this paper, a binary goal programming model for the mixed-model assembly line balancing (ALB) problem is developed. The model is based on the concepts developed by Patterson and Albracht [1] and the model of Deckro and Rangachari [2] developed for the single-model ALB problem. The proposed model provides a considerable amount of flexibility to the decision maker since several conflicting goals can be simultaneously considered.

This paper looks at connections between the multi-criteria techniques of goal programming, compromise programming, and the reference point method. The utility function structure of each method is examined and interpretation of the techniques in terms of pareto efficiency and the equilibrated nature of the solution is given. Means of ensuring pareto efficiency whilst maintaining as much as possible the equilibrated character are given for a certain class of model. Methods for ensuring conceptual correctness and computational accuracy by reducing reference point models to equivalent goal programmes are given. The findings are illustrated by means of an example.

This article investigates the consistency of interval fuzzy preference relations based on interval arithmetic, and new definitions are introduced for additive consistent, multiplicative consistent and weakly transitive interval fuzzy preference relations. Transformation functions are put forward to convert normalized interval weights into consistent interval fuzzy preference relations. By analyzing the relationship between interval weights and consistent interval fuzzy preference relations, goal-programming-based models are developed for deriving interval weights from interval fuzzy preference relations for both individual and group decision-making situations. The proposed models are illustrated by a numerical example and an international exchange doctoral student selection problem. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A type of multi-criteria decision-making problems is about the assignment of objects to predetermined classes by considering multiple criteria. Such problems are defined as multi-criteria sorting or classification problems based on whether the classes are ordered or not. Inverse multi-criteria sorting problem deals with the improvement of assigned classes of objects by determining the possible actions that can change the state of objects. In this study, a goal programming model of inverse multi-criteria ranking problem is proposed to find a compromise solution between the improvement at least cost and the number of objects assigned to a particular class. The proposed model is tested on an application of building energy class improvement and obtained solution results are evaluated.

Few published research studies focusing on supply chain disruptions and humanitarian logistics examine the response and recovery phases in post-disaster operations. We present a goal programming-based multiple-objective integrated response and recovery model to investigate strategic supply distribution and early-stage network restoration decisions. The model prescribes equity- or fairness-based compromise solutions for user-desired goals, given limited capacity, budget, and available resources. An experimental study demonstrates how different decision making strategies can be formulated to understand important dimensions of decision making. The efficient frontiers are generated to understand the trade-off between objectives and to analyze capacity-related planning strategies. Hazus-generated regional case studies for two regions, South Carolina. and California, demonstrate the applicability of our proposed model in post-disaster operations. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V.
