Optimal Reusable Rocket Landing guidance: A Cutting-Edge Approach Integrating Scientific Machine Learning and Enhanced Neural Networks

This study presents an innovative approach that utilizes scientific machine learning and two types of enhanced neural networks for modeling a parametric guidance algorithm within the framework of ordinary differential equations to optimize the landing phase of reusable rockets. Our approach addresses various challenges, such as reducing prediction uncertainty, minimizing the need for extensive training data, improving convergence speed, decreasing computational complexity, and enhancing prediction accuracy for unseen data. We developed two distinct enhanced neural network architectures to achieve these objectives: Adaptive (AQResNet) and Rowdy Adaptive (RAQResNet) Quadratic Residual Neural Networks. These architectures exhibited outstanding performance in our simulations. Notably, the RAQResNet model achieved a validation loss approximately 300 times lower than the standard architecture with an equal number of trainable parameters and 50 times lower than the standard architecture with twice the number of trainable parameters. Furthermore, these models require significantly less computational power, enabling real-time computation on modern flight hardware. The inference times of our proposed models were measured in approximately microseconds on a single-board computer. Additionally, we conducted an extensive Monte Carlo analysis that considers a wide range of factors, extending beyond aerodynamic uncertainty, to assess the robustness of our models. The results demonstrate the impressive adaptability of our proposed guidance policy to new conditions and distributions outside the training domain. Overall, this study makes a substantial contribution to the field of reusable rocket landing guidance and establishes a foundation for future advancements.

Time-Optimal guidance Laws Using a Frequency Domain Approach for Spacecraft Rendezvous

This paper proposes a novel approach to solving the time-optimal rendezvous problem for spacecraft in orbit. Initially, the characteristics of the time-optimal rendezvous solution in the in-plane motion of the relative equations of motion are analyzed using the direct collocation method. A time-delay filter is designed in the frequency domain using the analysis results. And then, it transforms the time-optimal control problem into a parameter optimization problem. By solving this optimization problem, the switching times of the bang-bang control profile can be determined. The effectiveness of the proposed method is examined through various simulations, demonstrating its ability to resolve the discontinuities caused by the bang-bang control profile while also being effectively applicable under various boundary conditions. Additionally, the proposed method turns out to be robust against disturbances through real-time application.

BackgroundMycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common form of cutaneous T cell lymphoma. While multiple guidelines provide treatment recommendations, there are currently no clear treatment algorithms for MF. Chlormethine gel is also an appropriate first-line monotherapy for patients with stage IB or IIA MF;it may be used as part of combination regimens in these patients as well. Ethnic pharmacological relevance: "Cyathula officinalis Kuan (COK)" has the effect of "guiding the drug downward" and can enhance the efficacy of formula, e.g., Shentong Zhuyu Decoction (STZYD). However, there is currently no scientific basis on COK to guide drugs to target organs in STZYD. Aim of the study: The main objective of this study was to unclose the scientific connotations of the Yin-Jing medicinal properties of COK using molecular biology and modern chemical methods. Materials and methods: A rat model of adjuvant arthritis was established. The optimal dose of STZYD was determined by observing a series of indicators, and the therapeutic effects of STZYD and [STZYD - COK] were compared. The water decoction of COK was divided into five fragments (i.e., Fr. A-E) by macroporous adsorption resin and alcohol deposition methods. The Fr. A-E were further characterized by a combination of multiple chromatographic and spectral techniques. The potentiating therapeutic effects, guidance and targetability tests were used to evaluate "Yin-Jing" function by compatible combination of other drugs using pharmacological indicators, pharmacokinetics, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and small animal live imaging (SALI) techniques. Results: The optimal dose of STZYD was confirmed to be 1 x dose and COK increased the efficacy of [STZYD COK]. The results of chemical characterization showed that the main components of Fr. A-E were polysaccharide, fructooligosaccharide and small Mw fructan, saponins and flavonoid glycosides, steroidal ketones, organic acids esters, respectively. Pharmacological experiments showed that Fr. A, Fr. B and Fr. E were attributed to potentiate therapeutic effects. guidance assays showed that Fr. The International Society for Cell & Gene Therapy Particulates Working Group has surveyed the global industry on commonly used regulatory guidance documents pertaining to particulates across various cell and gene therapy (CGT) product-based chemistry and manufacturing controls. Responses were collated from academic and industrially based individuals involved in or making decisions for manufacturing, quality control and analytics. Two surveys covering therapy developers and manufacturing suppliers were created and distributed via email, through focus groups and via social media platforms. In total, 97 responses were received from CGT professionals at different career levels, which varied from technicians to corporate executives. The responses represent a snapshot of the different CGT industries, with a bias in cell therapy developers, because of the distribution of respondents. Overall, we observed a widespread use of common guidance and legislative documents with specific testing requirements pinned to certain CGT product types. Cell-based combination drugs and devices are not well addressed and may require other guidance that was not referenced. These results indicate that CGT particulate risk management should be clarified by collating various particulate guidelines into an easy-to-use guide that brings awareness to the various legislative and guidance documents pertaining to new and novel therapies, their classification, their route of administration and the regulatory jurisdiction under which they are handled. The group also recommends clearly outlining the differences and similarities in particulate management regulations across the globe. As the CGT industry is undergoing maturation, the risk analysis methods are also maturing. With such a broad range in product types, routes of administration, source materials and processing methods, standards of risk analysis and control need to be specific to the risk profile associated with any given drug product. Informing the development of transmission modelling guidance for global immunization decision-making: A qualitative needs assessment

In recent years, mathematical transmission models have been increasingly used to support immunization program decisions and to measure the impact and cost-effectiveness of interventions. However, countries face expertise-and resource-related barriers that limit the use and application of modelled evidence to inform decisions. The World Health Organization (WHO) established an Immunization and Vaccines Implementation Research advisory committee subgroup in 2023 to support immunization decision-makers to effectively generate, translate and use such evidence for strategies, policies, and programs. This study supports this effort, detailing the needs of end-users to inform content and format of the guidance. Fifteen in-depth interviews were conducted with vaccination decision-makers and modelers from all six WHO regions and across low-, middle- and high-income countries. Interviews explored: (i) how modelling is understood and used;(ii) the challenges faced when using modelled evidence;(iii) the types of guidance that would be most useful to enhance the use of modelled evidence. Analysis of transcripts was guided by the framework method, which structures the analysis of qualitative data. Participants with modelling expertise used it firsthand, systematically, and often in an advisory capacity. Less experienced users, often in policy advisory roles, were less confident in their understanding of modelling and some did not use it at all. Decision-makers with little or no modelling experience cited a need for more information to help them understand the value of modelling in their context and many supported its potential. All participants saw a need for capacity strengthening and localised application to instil confidence in using modelled evidence. Those with less experience expressed a need for ongoing interactive engagement with knowledge brokers and training. Catheter navigation support for mechanical thrombectomy guidance: 3D/2D multimodal catheter-based registration with no contrast dye fluoroscopy

PurposeThe fusion of pre-operative imaging and intra-operative fluoroscopy may support physicians during mechanical thrombectomy for catheter navigation from the aortic arch to carotids. Nevertheless, the aortic arch volume is too important for intra-operative contrast dye injection leading to a lack of common anatomical structure of interest that results in a challenging 3D/2D registration. The objective of this work is to propose a registration method between pre-operative 3D image and no contrast dye intra-operative *** registration method exploits successive 2D fluoroscopic images of the catheter navigating in the aortic arch. The similarity measure is defined as the normalized cross-correlation between a binary combination of catheter images and a pseudo-DRR resulting from the 2D binary projection of the pre-operative 3D image (MRA or CTA). The 3D/2D transformation is decomposed in out-plane and in-plane transformations to reduce computational complexity. The 3D/2D transformation is then obtained by maximizing the similarity measure through multiresolution exhaustive *** evaluated the registration performance through dice score and mean landmark error. We evaluated the influence of parameters setting, aortic arch type and 2D navigation sequence duration. Results on a physical phantom and data from a patient who underwent a mechanical thrombectomy showed good registration accuracy with a dice score higher than 92% and a mean landmark error lower than the quarter of a carotid diameter (8-10 mm).ConclusionA new registration method compatible with no contrast dye fluoroscopy has been proposed to guide the crossing from aortic arch to a carotid in mechanical thrombectomy. First evaluation showed the feasibility and accuracy of the method as well as its compatibility with clinical routine practice.

Using Sequential Pattern Mining to Understand How Students Use guidance While Doing Scientific Calculations

In natural science education, experiments often lead to the collection of raw data that need to be processed into results by doing calculations. Teaching students how to approach such calculations can be done using digital learning materials that provide guidance. The goal of this study was to investigate students' behaviour regarding the use of guidance while doing scientific multi-step calculations, and to relate this behaviour to learning. Sequential pattern mining was used to i) identify students' behaviour patterns while doing calculations in an online learning environment, ii) study the relation between use of guidance and success on first attempt at submitting a calculated value, iii) study the relation between students' use of guidance and learning gain, and iv) study the relation between students' use of guidance and prior knowledge. Data showed that all students frequently used the guidance provided in the learning task. Moreover, students who used the option to check their intermediate calculations and students who studied worked examples were more likely to successfully complete the calculation on their first attempt than students who did not use this guidance. guidance in the form of hints was used frequently. However, using the hints did not result in more success at the first attempt. We did not find a relation between learning gain and use of guidance, but we did find a trend that students with a low prior knowledge used more guidance compared to students with a high prior knowledge. The results of this study imply that providing hints and intermediate calculations is of utmost importance for students to independently complete scientific multi-step calculations.
