Due to the increasing complexity of current vehicle functions and their interaction, the effect of a single function can change. Safety and comfort functions are one of the most important topics in vehicle development. In order to quantify the influence of Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (ADAS) on the vehicle guidance, which are the vehicle control inputs of the driver, we present an assessment methodology based on Field Operational Tests (FOT) and Naturalistic Driving Studies (NDS) using vehicles of different generations and consider country specific traffic composition. We identify situations of interest by characteristics of driver guidance and the responding system feedback Therefore, we study the usage and the effect of longitudinal guidance systems like Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) on driver guidance. As an indicator, we use temporal and spatial reserves in the interaction with other road users and the influence on lateral guidance. Results indicate that the general distance-behavior with and without DCC/ACC differs. System usage and common configurations differ, and a marginal effect on lateral guidance is noticeable.

This paper addresses the design of a two-dimensional guidance scheme in the vertical plane, using robust and gain-scheduling control methods, for a fin-stabilized canard-guided projectile. Given that the conventional proportional navigation guidance (PNG) is not completely adequate for target interception with a control-authority-limited weapon, the proposed guidance law is offered as an improvement compared with PNG while respecting a similar parallel navigation guidance principle. The projectile-target engagement kinematics full nonlinear model is discussed, and a linear parameter-varying model, necessary for guidance design, is derived without any approximation. A set of reduced-order mixed-sensitivity H-infinity controllers with an additional reference model following constraint is designed using a specific computation procedure. The resulting homing closed-loop system is assessed through linear and nonlinear simulations of either nominal or perturbed scenarios. These scenarios include noise or uncertain launch initial conditions, and they also take a simplified or a more realistic autopilot loop into account. The gain-scheduled guidance scheme is finally compared with PNG, and with three other recent guidance laws considering limitations on the acceleration command.

This paper proposes several nonlinear impact time control guidance strategies against maneuvering targets, based on Lyapunov and sliding mode control theories. These strategies correspond to different quanta of information available to the interceptor, about the target's maneuver. The use of deviated pursuit paradigm in the guidance design enables the use of exact time-to-go expression for intercepting moving but non-maneuvering targets, without any small-angle approximations in heading angles. In deriving the guidance commands, the time-to-go is estimated by assuming a non-maneuvering target at each instant. Due to the inherent robustness of the proposed strategies, maneuvering targets can also be successfully intercepted at desired impact times, despite this assumption. Numerical simulations are presented to validate the efficacy of proposed guidance strategies for different initial engagement geometries and levels/types of target maneuvers.

A typical mission profile of submarine-launched cruise missiles begins with the launch phase which covers the motion of the missile from the launch to the water-exit and continues with the boost phase which lasts from the water-exit to the beginning of the cruise phase. In order to achieve the desired range of the launch and boost phases, efficient utilization of available energy which carries the missile to the beginning of the cruise phase is necessary. For this purpose, this study presents a new approach for energy-optimal control of the underwater and air motion of a submarine-launched cruise missile. In this approach, the aforementioned problem is modeled and solved as a minimum-effort optimal control problem. Then, the effects of initial and final conditions on energy need are investigated, and the optimal conditions that result with the minimum energy need are determined. Besides that, to control the motion of the missile from the sea surface to target, proportional-integral-derivative (PID), linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and pole-placement based autopilots are designed and compared with each other. Prior to the guidance and control design steps, six degrees of freedom (6 DOF) motion equations are derived, then the hydrodynamic and aerodynamic parameters are retrieved. The nonlinear 6 DOF motion model is simplified and linearized before minimum-effort optimal control design and autopilot studies. Results of the designed guidance and control strategies are presented through the nonlinear 6 DOF simulations. Finally, some comments are made and future stud- ies are mentioned based on theoretical and simulation studies.

It is a challenging task for common users to design and arrange the chain reaction with domino blocks. In this paper, we propose, Sketch2Domino, an interactive chain reaction design and guidance system with the input of the user freeform sketches. The proposed design system converts the captured user sketch into an arrangement graph of domino blocks. Then, the system formats the graph into a valid chain reaction and provides visual guidance with interactive projection mapping. The guidance system notices the user of the differences among the current blocks and the calculated results. This system can support multi-users to complete the chain-reaction design in group collaboration. It is verified that Sketch2Domino is convenient and helpful from our case studies.

This work addresses the problem of designing an impact time constrained guidance strategy for three-dimensional engagements, without decoupling the engagement dynamics in two mutually orthogonal planes. The guidance command is derived while considering nonlinear engagement dynamics, and with a time-to-go prediction that accounts for the interceptor's heading error. Power rate reaching law is used while designing sliding mode guidance strategy, since this law offers inherent robustness, smooth control and finite-time convergence to the sliding manifold. Further, the interceptor lateral acceleration components are obtained using a control allocation technique, that minimizes the instantaneous lateral acceleration, which aids in minimizing the total drag during interceptor's flight. Conditions for the interceptor to reach the collision course are derived and analyses are presented. Finally, simulations are provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed guidance scheme.
