This paper proposes a guidance law for a two dimensional missile target engagement scenario which is optimal in the sense of time and is also capable of tackling external disturbances. Another important feature of this guidance law is that it can be implemented online which is of prime importance for such practical systems. For making the problem realistic and challenging high initial heading error is taken and constraint on control is also imposed. Lyapunov based stability analysis is included in this work for the proposed guidance law. Comparing the control law with other standard guidance laws further establishes its effectiveness.

In this paper, a fuzzy logic guidance scheme of a control-configured autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is presented. In order to fulfill specific tasks, multi-thrusters are installed in different directions as the actuators of the AUV. First, the nonlinear dynamic model of the AUV is established. Second, a fuzzy logic LOS guidance/control method is proposed to deal with the uncertainties in the operating environments, such that the navigation coefficient can be adjusted adaptively. Simulation and experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Motivated by the requirement for pinpoint landing in the future Mars missions, this paper presents a convex programming algorithm for the numerical solution of the minimum fuel powered descent guidance problem. For the engine's variable thrust, based on factors like amplitude of the thruster, the Martian surface constraint, descent inclination, this paper describes the problem of fuel-optimal precise soft landing at the power descent phase and gives the corresponding equivalent optimization problem;then the equivalent optimization problem is discretized and converted to the optimization problem with consideration of linear constraints and second order cone constraints. Finally, through the simulation analysis of typical-fuel optimal landing trajectory, it can be concluded: the resulting guidance algorithm can potentially be implemented onboard a spacecraft for real-time application.

To solve the problem of multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with intermittent communication topologies simultaneously attack a stationary target, a time cooperative guidance law is studied in this paper. First, a novel time cooperative guidance model for multiple UAVs is constructed based on UAVs-target relative motion equations. Then, a cooperative guidance law is designed based on consensus theory, which can ensure multiple UAVs' impact times realize finite time consensus under intermittent topologies. After UAVs' impact times become to be the same, traditional PN guidance law is applied in all UAVs to guarantee that the UAVs can attack the target precisely without influencing the consensus of impact times. Finally, the validity of the proposed method is shown by numerical simulations.

A probabilistic expert system has been developed to predict underwater migration and burial into the seabed of munitions. The Underwater Munitions Expert System (UnMES) is a computer-based tool to help guide remediation management of underwater sites contaminated with abandoned munitions. This report documents the progress made in the development of UnMES during the Project MR-2645 contract period (2017-2019), and includes a guide for installation and usage of UnMES. A number of examples demonstrating use of the expert system are shown. The computer code will be delivered as supplementary material to the report.

The acceleration autopilot with a rate loop is the most commonly implemented autopilot, which has been extensively applied to high-performance missiles. Nevertheless, for spinning rockets, the design of the guidance and control modules is a challenging task because the rapid spinning of the body creates a heavy coupling between the normal and lateral rocket dynamics. Nonlinear modeling of the rocket dynamics, control design as well as guidance algorithms are performed in this paper. Moreover, discrete time guidance and control algorithms for the terminal phase, which is based on proportional navigation, are performed. Finally, complete nonlinear simulations based on realistic scenarios are developed to demonstrate the robustness of the proposed solution with respect to uncertainty regarding launch, environment and rocket conditions. The performance of the proposed navigation, guidance and control system for a high-spin rocket leads to significant reductions in impact point dispersion. (C) 2017 Elsevier Masson SAS. This paper summarizes developed guidance on the utilization of earthquake-induced ground motion simulations for engineering practice. Attention is given to the necessary verification, validation and utilization documentation in order for confidence in the predictive capability of simulated motions to be established. The construct of a ground motion simulation validation matrix is developed for assessing the appropriateness of a particular suite of simulated ground motions from the perspective of region-to-site-specific application and for different specific engineering systems. Appropriate validation metrics and "pass" criteria, the consideration of modeling uncertainties, and limitations associated with a relative lack of validation data are also addressed. An example is utilized in order to demonstrate the application of the guidance. This document is intended to be bidirectional in the sense that it provides guidance for earthquake engineers on the appropriateness of a suite of ground motion simulations for utilization in a site-specific context, as well as ground motion simulators to understand the context in which their results will be utilized.
